Steyning and the surrounding villages of Ashurst, Bramber, Edburton, Small Dole, Upper Beeding and Wiston are such special places; if you live within one of them you will know that, if not come and visit and sample not only all the Food & Drink Festival offerings, but all the wonderful walks that abound. Ropetackle Cinema August

Ropetackle Cinema is sorry to announce that the summer festval of four themed films had to be cancelled. We apologise for the disappointment and any inconvenience caused. Those who purchased advance tickets will, of course, be entitled to a full refund. Three films to be shown in August remain as scheduled:

A FAMILY FILM:ERNEST AND CELADINE Meet Ernest, a large and grumpy street-bear musician who one day comes across an orphan apprentice mouse dentist called Celestine. Persuaded not to eat her, they form a friendship that really shouldn’t happen but which, against all odds, prevails. Simply and beautifully animated, it’s a pleasure to watch this endearing story. Cert U, duration 80 mins. Animation. Wednesday 3rd August, 2.00 pm. Tickets available from Box Office or on-line, £4. A RELAXED AND FRIENDLY FILM open to all SUMMER HOLIDAY Presented in relaxed and friendly conditions - suitable for all, especially people with any form of memory loss. Bus mechanics do up a London double-decker as a hotel and drive it round Europe, picking up a stowaway and three stranded girls. Starring Cliff Richard singing those old, loved songs. A MATINEE FILM: THE DUKE 1961 London. An outspoken Newcastle taxi driver, Kempton Bunton (Jim Broadbent on top form), disgusted by the money spent on Goya’s painting of the Duke of Wellington for the National Gallery, mounts his own protest. He steals and hides the painting, sending ransom notes saying The Duke would be returned if the government invested more money in care for the elderly (including free television for pensioners). He is arrested and put on trial much to the consternation of his long-suffering wife, Dorothy (Helen Mirren). Cert 12A, duration 96 mins. Tuesday 23rd August, 2.00 pm.
