Sausage Sizzle event raises funds for the Rotary Polio Plus Programme

The Rotary International Polio Plus Programme provides polio vaccines, mobilizes community resources and supports operational costs related to international efforts to immunize children, detect and track cases, and eradicate polio worldwide.

To support this Worldwide action, Storrington and Pulborough District Rotary Club held a World’s Greatest Meal Sausage Sizzle event in a Member’s garden. The ‘World’s Greatest Meal’, is a program in which Rotarians host meals - anything from two people having lunch to elaborate gourmet dinners or even sausage suppers - and ask for donations to raise funds to help end Polio. With matching funds from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, WGM has raised over $7 million to date. 33 people attended the Sausage Sizzle raising £600 including donations received from many Club Members who were unable to attend. This becomes £1,800 when the Gates Foundation trebles the donation and will fund 4,140 vaccines to immunise children in the last two countries in the World - Pakistan and Afghanistan - reporting wild polio cases. Organiser, Rotarian Penny Barnes, said: was so good to get together again after this difficult year - the weather was perfect and we had a wonderful day. This was our 4th annual Sausage Sizzle for WGM - last year’s we had to do it on zoom!
