Looking Forward I usually try to match the subject of my photo articles with the time of year but for a locked down February I thought I’d look forward to the possibility of a Summer holiday to cheer us all up.

I have often written about photo projects, collections of pictures on a theme that expand on a story, an idea or an observation and there is no better time to pursue a photographic project than when you are in the unfamiliar surroundings of a holiday destination which can provide inspiration for your creativity.

What do you see around you that you don’t see in your home town ? What about the architecture or the landscape ? The colour of the sea and the sand ? Do the local people and the tourists act or dress differently ? What about the wildlife, the skies,the plants ? These are all potential photographic subjects.

Rampion Wind Farm off the Sussex coast.

An informal consultation has been opened seeking feedback on initial proposals to expand the Rampion Wind Farm off the Sussex coast.

Rampion 2 could create clean, renewable electricity to power over one million homes in the UK in addition to Rampion’s existing generation.

Feedback from this first consultation will help refine more detailed proposals which will be prepared for a second consultation later this year.

An offshore ‘Area of Search’ is being assessed to identify the optimum site for a maximum of up to 116 turbines, the same number as the existing Rampion Offshore Wind Farm.

A subsea export cable is proposed to bring the power ashore under Climping beach, with an underground onshore cable route required to bring the power inland to connect to the national transmission grid at Bolney, where three potential sites are being considered for a new substation.

Cllr Daniel Humphreys, Leader of Worthing Borough Council, said: “I very much welcome these proposals in principle to expand the hugely successful Rampion offshore wind farm. 7 MORTGAGE TIPS THAT COULD SAVE YOU MONEY IN 2021 As a new year starts, it’s a great time to review your mortgage. It’s a step that could save you money now and over the full term of your mortgage. Even a relatively small saving each month can add up over the years you’ll be paying a mortgage.

1. Check when your current deal ends: If you currently have a mortgage deal in place, make sure you know when it ends. Usually, you’ll be moved on to your lender’s Standard Variable Rate (SVR) at the end of a deal. This is typically a higher interest rate than you’d receive if you searched for a new deal.

Despite this, according to Experian, up to 44% of the UK’s 10.8 million mortgages are likely to be paying a provider’s SVR. Moving from an SVR could save you thousands of pounds.

2. Review the interest rate you’re paying: Interest rates are low, but even a small difference has an impact over the term of your mortgage. If you had a £200,000 mortgage over a 20-year term at 3.5%, for example, your monthly repayments would be £1,160. Over the full term, the interest would add up to £78,459. However, an interest reduction of just 1% to 2.5% would mean total interest adds up to £54,379.

You’d save over £24,000 by switching.

£150,000 over 25 years with an interest rate of 2.5% and made a regular monthly overpayment of £200, you’d pay off your mortgage seven years and three months earlier. You’d also save over £16,000 in interest alone.

5. Reduce the term: Reducing the term of the mortgage will mean you pay less interest and own you home outright sooner. However, you need to make sure you can keep up with the higher monthly costs as you won’t have the flexibility that overpayment offers.

6. Get your home valued: If you’ve lived in your home for a while, it’s likely the value has increased. According to the November Halifax House Price Index, prices increased by 7.6% in the last 12 months alone. As prices rise, the equity you own within your home also increases. If you fall into a new loan to value (LTV) band, this can give you access to lower interest rates.

7. Pay fees upfront: If you’re taking out a new mortgage deal, you’ll usually be offered the opportunity to pay fees upfront or select a deal with no fees. While it can be tempting to reduce costs now by choosing a deal with no fees, this will usually mean the interest rate is higher. If you calculate this difference over the term of the deal, you’ll often save money by paying fees upfront.

3. Check your insurance policies: If you have buildings and content insurance separate from your mortgage, it can pay to bundle them together. Choosing one provider could mean they offer you a discount that will ensure your home is protected for less.

Sir Laurence Olivier (1906-1989) Laurence Olivier was born in Dorking, Surrey on the 22nd of May 1907. His first stage appearance was at the age of ten in 1917, when he played Brutus in a school production of Julius Caesar. In 1920 he left the choir school of All Saints, Margaret Street, for St. Edward’s School, Oxford.

There in 1924, he played Puck in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He was awarded a scholarship to the Central School of Speech Training and Dramatic Art that same year.

In 1926 Laurence Olivier joined the Birmingham Repertory Company and at just twenty years of age was the lead actor in the play Harold. In 1928, Olivier starred in Journey’s End and in 1930 Private Lives at the new Phoenix Theatre in London. He indulged in his love of Shakespeare during the 1930s and it was said there was no role he couldn’t play. He excelled in Romeo and Juliet, first as Mercutio and then as Romeo.

The play sold out and its run was extended to one hundred and eighty nine performances.

In the 1930s, he married for the first time, to actor Jill Esmond.

In May 1936 Olivier joined the Old Vic Theatre Company where he appeared in Hamlet, Twelfth Night and Henry V. Next, Olivier successfully transferred his love of Shakespeare from stage to the movie screen playing Orlando in As You Like It. After this he was offered $50,000 to star as Heathcliff in the 1939 Hollywood silver screen adaption of Emily Bronte’s famous novel Wuthering Heights. For this role he was nominated for Best Actor at the 1940 Academy Awards.

During the Second World War, Laurence Olivier directed and starred in the highly acclaimed film, Henry V. Released to the cinemas in 1944 it helped to raise the morale of a war-weary public. His second success as a director was after the war with a film adaptation of Hamlet (1948). It won the Academy Award for Best Picture and Laurence Olivier won the Award for Best Actor. The third Shakespeare adaptation, Olivier starred in was Richard III (1955) for which he was nominated for the Best Actor Academy Award.

Throughout his career Laurence Olivier was heavily involved in directing and performing at the Old Vic Theatre and the Royal Court cont/d 12 11

Theatre in London as well as New York’s Broadway. He was the Roman General Marcus Licinius Crassus in the film Spartacus and Archie Rice in the film the Entertainer both released in 1960.

Laurence Olivier married British actor Joan Plowright in 1961 and he became the first director of the Chichester Festival, as well as the first artistic director of London’s new National Theatre on the South Bank, which opened for the first time in 1963.

In 1969 Olivier starred as Air Chief Marshal Hugh Dowding in the film Battle of Britain and won a BAFTA award for his role of Field Marshal French in the film Oh! What a Lovely War. In 1973 he narrated the TV documentary series The World at War. Until the 1970s Laurence Olivier and Joan Plowright lived in Royal Crescent, Brighton. In 1972 while commuting to London on the Brighton Belle, he was one of the campaigners who successfully ensured that kippers continued

to be served on the train.

When he retired, Lawrence Olivier and Joan Plowright moved to a house at Ashurst, near Steyning and Henfield. Among the many awards and honours Olivier received during his lifetime was becoming the first ever actor to become a Lord. In 1984 he gave permission for the Society of West End Awards to be named the Laurence Oliver Awards. Olivier died on the 11th of July 1989 aged 82. His funeral was held at St. James Church, Ashurst.

Ricky Dale releases new ghost story with a difference!

With his fifth novel, “I knew the bride when she used to Rock n Roll,” Ricky Dale has created a ghost story with a difference.

Children’s book launched to tell tale of ocean plastic pollution A children’s fictional book by a West Sussex native highlighting ocean plastic pollution, will see profits going to a charity protecting seas from plastic.

Richard Shore, who now lives in Co. Waterford, Ireland, created The Tangled Tuna in the Hurrahtum Adventures! series during the pandemic.Ideal as a bedtime story, it focuses on a girl (Lucy) who has adventures when she shouts the magic word “Hurrahtum” – which makes a cove and boat appear.In the eBook, Lucy rescues tuna caught in a discarded fishing net, known as ghost fishing, whereby lost and abandoned fishing gear remains in the ocean, continuing to catch fish and other animals.

Ghost gear, which causes ghost fishing, is expected to remain in the oceans for hundreds of years, gradually breaking into harmful microplastics.Approximately 640,000 tonnes of nets, lines, pots and traps used in commercial fishing enter the ocean every year.

Richard, who grew up in Shoreham-by-Sea, is passionate about the ocean and surfing, and wanted to make a difference with the book.

He’s donating 50 per cent profits of book sales to Plastic Oceans UK – a non-profit organisation whose mission is to stop plastic reaching the ocean within a generation.

Profits raised will help the charity to support their Youth Outreach programmes for 11 – 25s, empowering underrepresented young people to develop their own voice on the issues relating to ocean threats.

Census 2021

The Census is a once every 10 years survey of the population across the UK. Census day is 21 March 2021.The census population estimates underpin both planning and provision of public services.

Getting the best possible response rates is vital to this across many areas including; planning and development, public health and social care, education, transport, housing, emergency services, libraries, waste collection and disposal.

The approach to carrying out the census has been informed by population statistics from 2011, mid-census data from 2016 and any other updates and work carried out by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) since then.

There are officers at the county council, as well as all the district and borough councils, that are working with the ONS. Parish and town councils have been, and will continue to be, updated directly by the ONS.

There have been a number of changes since the last Census to reflect how society has changed, with new questions and a ‘digital first’ approach.

The ONS are looking for a 94% response rate, with at least 80% in every authority area.
