We would like to say an enormous thank you to all our sponsors, funders, supporters and community partners. Without you we would simply not be able to make SouthWestFest happen and continue to support, entertain and inspire the South Westminster community and beyond. PARTNERSFUNDERS & SPONSORS

Welcome to SouthWestFest

SouthWestFest is a long-established cultural community festival that brings creative, inspiring and fun events and activities to those living and working in south Westminster. With something for all ages, our festival will take place across south Westminster between the 24th June and 15th July, 2022. This year’s festival theme is ‘A Breath Of Fresh Air’, and is a collective reset and refresh after what we hope is the worst of the Covid-19 pandemic - providing much missed and needed new opportunities for the community to come together safely, enjoying the meaningful events and spaces that have been unavailable in recent times. Alongside this, The SouthWestFest team feel it is urgent to consider our position in tackling the climate emergency, and support our community by raising awareness and programming exciting, practical and engaging sustainability and climate focused events and workshops. Westminster has the second worst levels of air pollution out of the 32 London boroughs and in addition to this, there is growing evidence that those most affected by the impacts of pollution are those in more deprived groups. We want our theme to acknowledge this and to open up conversations and action around this.

SouthWestFest Opening Weekend - after a two-year break we’re bringing back our Pimlico Proms and Festival Day on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th June in St. George’s Square. As the largest events in the local calendar, we can’t wait to present these once more and bring everyone together again! Our Day of Play is back on Saturday 2nd July, and for 2022 we are dedicating the event to Chloe Balloqui, who passed away earlier this year from Neuroblastoma cancer. Chloe was an inspiration and loved by the whole community in Pimlico, and beyond. We hope this event will be a fitting tribute to her amazing strength and love for life. The day will once again be one that is full of fun, workshops and activities for children and young people (and parents/guardians that are big kids!), including: circus skills, planting workshops, craft, sports, activities and more. This has been a huge hit at previous festivals, and we can’t wait to see all the smiling faces and hear all the laughter from those that attend. Don’t miss it! We’ve been working on a brand new heritage project over the past few months, which is culminating in the Stories of Our StreetsHeritage Trail on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July for all ages, supported by Heritage Lottery Funding. Explore at your leisure or book onto one of our tours to discover more about the local area and its history. We also have a fantastic Workshop Programme with interesting and exciting events focusing on sustainability and the Theenvironment!fundoesn’t stop there, as our three week programme is chock-a-block with great events, workshops, classes and activities taking place every day and produced in partnership with local organisations and venues from across the south Westminster area. 5 2022 Contents Organisers 4 Festival Diary 6 Opening Weekend 8–9 Week One 10-14 Week Two 16–21 Week Three 22–24 Festival Venues 26 This is your Festival Back cover

Heritage Project, Trail, Tours. Supported by National Lottery Grants for Heritage and working with Westminster Abbey, Westminster Archives, City Lions and Open Age, we created an exciting new element for 2022’s festival that will bring young people and older adults from across south Westminster together to share memories, stories and to learn about their neighbourhoods. The ‘Stories of Our Streets’ project took place in May and consisted of four guided workshops that explored the stories of the neighbourhoods where participants live and/or grew up in. Working together, participants investigated the history that has shaped their communities, discussing and creatively responding to their memories, investigations and research. Through these guided workshops and walks, participants developed a series of physical, written and recorded responses that form the basis of our two-day Heritage Trail on 9th and 10th July, supported by a small team of local volunteers. A Digital Trail will be created and hosted on our website for the duration of the festival, remaining online as a local resource. WEEK 3 9th - 15th July
