With spring in the air at Woodlands Farm and lambing not far off, join in a Spring Equinox guided nature ramble on March 18 (11am-12:30pm). BIRD IS THE WORD March 22 marks the first in the farm’s series of spring bird walks. It’s a great opportunity to find out about the spring arrivals to the farm as well as those birds which are there all year. Meet at the education centre at 10am. This walk involves crossing muddy fields, so is not suitable for buggies. Please wear suitable footwear and bring your own binoculars if you have them. In the event of bad weather the walk will be cancelled.

Breaking the mould T
hese days, when you walk along Westmount Road, you could be forgiven for thinking you are in the middle of a bustling country village. The regeneration of the area has made it feel like the heart of the community and the swanky nature of the retail outlets would please the most highfaluting country lady or gentleman. From the interior design shop to the micro-pub, Westmount Road really does have everything and you can easily spend a morning enjoying the hustle and bustle of the busy Eltham street. Someone who has been instrumental in making the area a hive of activity is Tracey Milsom. The former office worker fancied a change after being employed in one of the local schools for eight years and stumbled upon a rather unique idea. “I was just looking for something else. I love cooking and love making
Tracey found she had a knack for helping people to paint impressive pottery pieces cakes and always had an idea that I’d like to have a coffee shop.” Tracey told me, when I popped into Pottery on the Parade for a coffee on a busy Saturday lunchtime. And after hearing about the rise in popularity of ceramic cafes, Tracey – who has lived in Greenwich for all of her life – realised she had the opportunity to open something that could prove to be a huge hit in the area. Tracey took a course to make sure the venture was going to be both viable and enjoyable. And despite her modest protestations - “I wouldn’t say I’m an expert by any stretch of the imagination” - Tracey found she had a knack for helping people to paint impressive pottery pieces. Thus, Pottery on the Parade was born and almost two years later, the business has gone from strength to strength and earned an enviable reputation within the surrounding area. Tracey told me, “Primarily it’s ceramic painting. We have in loads of unpainted, unglazed pottery, practical things; plates,

cups, teapots and stuff like that; kids things like money boxes and ornaments; pretty much anything you can get made out of pottery.” And so on any given day, you pop in and have a good old time painting until your heart’s content, under the expert guidance of Tracey and
her team, with many of the area’s young virtuoso artists, learning their first strokes within the walls of the pottery paradise. But it’s not just a great activity for families, once a month Tracey also runs an evening specifically for the grownups to put their artistic skills to
the test. If you head down on the first Friday of every month at 7pm, you can order a pizza from the local purveyor down the road, Bella Napoli, while you paint your pots. And you can even bring your own

A
ctress Laura Baldwin made Greenwich her home at a young age after moving to the city to pursue a career in the arts.
And since graduating from Bird College of Dance in 2012 she has steadfastly remained in the area and says “I’ve always lived in the south east and I love it”. Originally from Huddersfield, Laura’s love for musical theatre was ignited by an appearance as part of a choir in a regional production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, “I remember just watching the cast of Joseph and thinking, that’s it, that’s what I want to do.” Laura enthused. So after gaining some experience on the amdram circuit, Laura made the move to the renowned performing arts college at the tender age of 16 and has never looked back. The actress has recently starred alongside American superstar Kelsey Grammer, best known for his depiction of the eponymous psychiatrist Frasier in the hit US TV show, whom Laura describes as “the nicest man in the world.” The pair appeared in the stage musical Big Fish at The Other Palace, a show which is adapted from the much-loved book and Tim Burton movie. Emmy, Tony and Golden Globe award-winner Kelsey Grammer played an ordinary man, and an extraordinary father, while Laura portrayed ‘Story Sandra’ and tells me, “it’s been such a special

thing for me; it’s very emotionally driven and it hits me at certain points each night.” After Big Fish wrapped up, Laura starred in the next big production at the venue, the new musical EUGENIUS! “I’ve asked them if I can have a bed there!” Laura laughed and said. Written by Ben Adams and Chris Wilkins, EUGENIUS! tells the story of Eugene, a teenage boy whose nightly dreams of a distant world of heroes and villains may just be the ticket to him creating his very own comic book movie in Hollywood. Laura played his best friend Janey, whom she describes as “a firecracker” and “very spirited”. Janey must help the comic writing genius discover the true meaning of growing up, finding the superhero within, saving the world from both earthbound villains and possibly those from distant galaxies, and along the way, falling in love. “It’s massively about an underdog. It’s about youth and being a teenager in the '80s and I guess it’s about finding your place in the world; who you are as a person, your friendships and learning about love and experiencing these things for the first time.” The show is produced by legendary Star Wars and Harry Potter actor Warwick Davis and was premiered as a concert version at the London Palladium in 2016. It’s upbeat soundtrack and fun story

Go tell it on the mountain
G
reenwich-based mountain and folk singer Ngawang Lodup is bringing his ballads and contemporary folk songs to Rotherhithe. Playing electric Mandolin and Dramnyen lute, Ngawang Lodoup hails from the Amdo region of
Tibet, the north-eastern corner of the Tibetan high Plateau. Ngawang learnt his unique repertoire of mountain songs during early childhood by listening to his mother singing while tending yak and sheep herds. Music became a crucial element of his everyday life, especially when
his brothers instructed him in the ancient art of the Dramnyen sixstring lute. As he grew older, he also learnt to play Mandolin and electric Mandolin subsequently both during his five-year stint in the monastery and after. Settling in the UK in 2004, Ngawang has spent the last
decade performing across Europe and the UK. His music was broadcast last April on Radio 3 as part of the BBC’s “introducing” strand and he returned to the airwaves for a session on World on BBC 3 in July. He was later invited to perform at the WOMAD music festival, and in September last year

Spring Clearing Week takes place 24-30 March and is designed to help you focus on creating a positive environment for the rest of the year. The campaign empowers you to let go of your clutter and create more physical and mental space to do the things you love. The experts have pulled together their top tips for Spring Clearing Week success: • Getting started is often the hardest part of decluttering. Take little steps if giant leaps are unrealistic. But definitely start. • Focus on just one space at a time. Choose a room, or even a drawer, and don’t get distracted by other areas. You will get to them. • Allocate dedicated time to sort through your things so you can focus on the task at hand. And try to eliminate distractions. • Declutter before buying any more storage so you can see what you really need. We often have more storage than we think.
• Take ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos. and residents, out of respect for their privacy. For this production we all got it right in my book, and the stunning shots across the Lewisham and Southwark were really worth the effort,” Andrew said. The extensive filming around Deptford High Street included the Frankham Street Carpak which, among other scenes, sees a stolen kiss. “Jody has walked into the distinctive Deptford Lounge building
and sat in the cafe playing on her phone. But she left and crossed the road to get into a silver Ford Focus,” Andrew said. “In Lewisham, Lennie pretends to sell beauty products door to door in a bid to get information about Jody. This was shot along and near Arbuthnot Road.” Save Me is on Wednesday nights at 9pm on Sky Atlantic, and also available on Now TV.

Authentic Vietnamese

n a rainy Sunday evening the streets were empty of anyone except the wet and bedraggled, so the welcoming sight of Bowl O Pho and the smile of Helen there was enough to warm myself and Nina up.
As is the usual for us in places where we are not entirely sure of what’s good on the menu, we left Helen completely in charge of what we should have and she did us proud. First to excite us was a selection of summer rolls and a pot of Vietnamese tea: a clean, aromatic brew that freshened the mouth and palate. The summer rolls came in a diaphanous rolled pancake, a membrane that allows you to see the delights within. To get a broader review of these delicacies we had one each: prawn, grilled chicken, and tofu and avocado. They are light, tasty and just right for a first course. The choice of dips was good too; I preferred the

sweet and sour Vietnamese sauce to the peanut, although there was nothing at all wrong with either. Nina had a bubble tea, something that seems to be a current trend. She loved it and got very excited as she explained how each different coloured bubble was full

of various fruit juices that burst in the mouth. Each time one went pop she would describe the feeling and try to guess the fruit. She thinks that she had mango, lychee and orange, plus a whole lot of fun drinking it. Next up was the crispy pancake
with grilled chicken filling. This was a bright yellow affair made from rice flour and quite light in texture and taste. The meat inside was tender and juicy, contrasting nicely with the crunchy bean sprouts. We both liked the fresh herbs and salad that accompanied each dish. For the next course Helen brought prawn steamed rice roll, which was just like a giant summer roll. The simple, translucent pancake allows the taste of the prawn filling to come through; its mildness countered with a dash of Vietnamese sauce. But you cannot dine in a Vietnamese restaurant without having the traditional pho, the large bowl of noodle soup so adored by everyone who has ever had it. We had the pho special because it included prawn, rare beef and chicken. Herbs, chili and lemon is also provided as an accompaniment for those who want to make it a hot and sour soup. We did.
Bowl O Pho does good, authentic Vietnamese food at good prices. We found it wholesome, very tasty and a pleasure to meet the friendly staff.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Council of the Royal Borough of Greenwich (hereinafter referred to as “the Council”) proposes to make the above-mentioned Orders under sections 6 and 124 of and Part IV of Schedule 9 to the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, as amended. 2. This is to facilitate works by SGN who need to carry out Cover replacement works. 2. The Order will come into operation on the 20th March 2018 and would continue to be valid for 18 months. However the works are expected to take three days. The duration of the Order can be extended with the approval of the Secretary of State for Transport. 3.
