HUNDREDS OF fed up drivers have signed a petition to have the eastbound bus lane on Jamaica Road opened to all during “busy periods”, as Bermondsey was branded a “car park”.

The petition has been flooded by supporters just days after the closure of Tower Bridge, with demands that the bus lane on the UK’s slowest road is opened as it often sits empty.

New bridge is good news for Rotherhithe

M

ayor Sadiq Khan’s sudden announcement that he will ‘accelerate’ plans for the bridge between Rotherhithe and Canary Wharf was roundly welcomed this week.

Funding still needs to be secured for the popular project, but mayor Khan has said the procurement process will start next year if all the essential approvals regarding money and land are in place.

The bridge - which could be open by 2020 - will be for pedestrians and cyclists only, and has been promoted as a project that will ease congestion on the busy Jubilee Line.

The News reported in July that Canada Water station was on a top ten list of Tube stations closed due to congestion.

During the period from March 2014 to February 2016, the station had closed 25 times.

And Canada Water and Rotherhithe is only going to get more dense as developers are about to embark on a massive regeneration of the area, bringing in many more people.

Getting to work in Canary Wharf will be much easier for many residents if the bridge does go ahead, and it will open up a cycle route to many more people commuting by bike from the wider area, potentially freeing up space on the Tube.

By encouraging more people to walk and cycle to work, it is also an ecologically sound answer to some of London’s congestion problems.

But the bridge won’t prove useful to many people who do not work in Canary Wharf. So, as we said last week, TfL, Southwark Council and developers must take the existing traffic problem by the horns to free up more space on the area’s roads. Letting the daily crawl to Rotherhithe Tunnel continue is certainly not good for the drivers, people living in the area or the environment.

Primary students help fundraise teacher’s trip to compete in the Triathlon World Championships and she gets the bronze medal

A TEACHER at Bermondsey’s Boutcher Church of England Primary School took bronze at the 2016 Triathlon World Championships, after students helped fundraise her trip.

Hannah Ewens, from Peckham, started doing triathlons two years ago and has since trained every week alongside teaching.

The training paid off last month at the prestigious competition, with her coming third in the Amateur Sprint, 25-29 age group.

Hannah, 26, said: “When I got out to Mexico I did a video link with my reception class. It was good because we were doing stuff about the Olympics and different sports that different countries do.

“Last year they did a couple of fundraising events to help me get to Mexico, like paying £2 to wear sports kit.

“I have an ambition to keep going to get as good as I can while teaching. I love my job. I’ve been

teaching here for three years.

“I don’t actually remember it [the triathlon]. I had heat stroke and went onto a drip straight after. What happened to Jonathan Brownlee happened to me but I managed to finish on my own! I finished in one hour and six minutes.

“The event was a 750m swim in the

sea, a 20k bike and 5k run. The run is my favourite. I got back on a Wednesday and came straight here [to the school]. I want to get as good as I can but still teach. I think I can manage both.”

The school raised £1,720 to help Hannah get to Mexico, where she shared updates with the children

throughout.

The competition was thrown into the spotlight this year after Jonathan Brownlee, one of the Brownlee Brothers, suffered severe dehydration just before finishing first, leading to his brother, Alistair, picking him up and pushing him over the finish line to come in third.

Twenty five people stuck in a lift for nearly TWO hours!

FIVE CHILDREN and 20 adults got trapped in a broken lift at Elephant and Castle tube station on Sunday for almost two hours, when emergency doors failed to open.

“The lift was about mid-way when it got stuck,” said 21-year-old student Emma Parker, who suffered a panic attack.

“All the lights cut out and we had to use the tannoy for help. It happened at about 5.40pm and went on until half-seven.

“People were really shouting after 40 minutes and one guy kept yelling at the tannoy system and ringing the bell. It got very hot very quickly inside.

“I was lucky that there was a doctor with us who helped me. The children were very scared and one little girl had to go to the toilet in a bag.

Emma said Paramedics were on hand to treat her and other passengers when they finally got to ground level. But the young woman from Uxbridge added that it was “extremely dangerous” that the emergency-door-release system had failed.

TfL confirmed to the News that the lift

remained out of order until Thursday for repairs, although the organisation disputes the amount of time passengers were stuck in the lift as 65 minutes.

Emma told the News: “We’re living in a climate where terrorist attacks and bad things are a very real fear.

“Someone answered the alarm after a while but it was ages before they could get the lift to move, and they weren’t very responsive to our calls.

“I’m going to write to complain to TfL, even if it’s just to get a reimbursement on my fare. The emergency doors are there for a reason, and they didn’t work.”

A TfL spokesperson said: “We apologise to our customers who were stuck in a lift at Elephant and Castle station on Sunday evening.

“Our station staff immediately followed procedure and contacted our Emergency Response Unit, the London Ambulance Service and the London Fire Brigade.

The team worked to release people as quickly as possible.

“Our station staff were in constant contact with the customers to offer reassurance and to keep them updated on the situation. When people were able to leave the lift our station staff were there to meet them and check their wellbeing.”

‘Bermondsey’s now one massive car park’

The petition has been flooded by supporters just days after the closure of Tower Bridge, with demands that the bus lane on the UK’s slowest road is opened as it often sits empty.

Supporter Harry Chapman commented on the petition: “Bermondsey is now one massive car park and this bus lane must be opened for the public to use at all times.”

Calls for the changes comes as the 122-year-old Tower Bridge shut for “essential maintenance” work at the beginning of the month, leading to more traffic jams.

Two cars in flames after collision

A BEATLE exploded into flames after colliding with another car in Peckham Park Road on Tuesday.

Fire crews attended from New Cross and Old Kent Road to put out fires on both cars.

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed that they were called at 9.47pm, and the blaze was under control by 22.07pm.

There were no injuries and all parties were able to free themselves from the two vehicles.

It has been signed more than 350 times, with supporter Eddy Walsh saying it’s “stupid that this is 24/7 buses only”.

Danny Marshall, another supporter, said: “Traffic is ridiculous and Saturday gone I spent over two house in traffic travelling from Southwark Park Road to Lower Road and back again – a journey that should take ten minutes!”

Authorities came under fire soon after Tower Bridge closed to traffic last weekend as Hollywood blockbuster Transformers 5 was seen being filmed on the road as people were stuck in traffic.

One driver, Raymond Shields, took to social media to write a song: “Tower Bridge is closed for now, closed for now, closed for now. Tower Bridge is closed for now and Bermondsey is at a standstill.”

The bridge is closed to traffic for three months and to pedestrians on the

weekends of November 26-27, December 3-4 and December 10-11, between 8am – 10pm.

Throughout the closure a signed diversion is in place taking drivers northbound over London Bridge and southbound over Southwark Bridge.

Three London Bus routes that use Tower Bridge (42, 78 and RV1) are affected and TfL has put a range of measures to help minimise disruption, including: • A free ferry service on the weekends that its closed to pedestrians to help people cross the river • Drivers will not incur the Congestion Charge on the signed diversion routes • And all road works apart from emergency ones will be banned in the area throughout the closure TfL was contacted for comment.

Film fund still open

SOUTHWARK: Budding filmmakers, producers and screenwriters from Southwark and Lambeth have another chance to apply for funding for a short film through the Southern Film Exposure Fund (SEFF).

As part of London Calling, the tenyear-old scheme from Film London has produced more than 45 films – from documentaries rom-coms.

Past recipients of the fund have won awards, including Chris Croucher, who got a National Television Award for Downton Abbey. Southern Exposure is funded by the Southwark and Lambeth councils, and is matched by Film London, the BFI and Creative Skillset.

Rotherhithe bridge gets a lift as Mayor says he will ‘accelerate’ plans Council worker finds Pedestrian and cycle crossing could be open by 2020 AK74 rifle in bushes

AN AK74 was found in undergrowth by a council worker who was cutting back bushes in Borough last week.

Police confirmed that the semiautomatic assault rifle had been decommissioned after it was found in Webber Row, which joins Waterloo Road with Webber Street.

Officers were called at 11.40am and the firearm was removed for forensic testing.

The AK74, part of the Kalashnikov range which includes the infamous AK47, is a Russian assault rifle developed by the Soviet Union.

It first emerged in 1974 and was used

by Soviet forces in the 1979 Afghanistan conflict – where it is claimed the CIA would pay $5,000 for

the first AK74 captured by the antiRussian fighters, the Mujahadeen.

The weapon is still used today in a majority of former USSR countries, as well as the North Korean Special Forces, and it is estimated around five million have been built.

Acting Detective Superintendent Nicola Duffy of Southwark Police said: “Firearms – whether decommissioned or not – have the potential to cause fear and harm and I am glad this weapon is now off the streets.

“I would urge anyone who has information that could assist police in removing firearms from the community to contact us.”

Night Tube on Jubilee this weekend

THE NIGHT Tube will open on the Jubilee Line on Friday to provide a 24-hour service on weekends.

Launched by the London Mayor Sadiq Khan in August, the Night Tube first opened on the Central and Victoria lines in August.

Night Tube’s impact on London’s

economy was measured at its launch with footfall in Oxford Street and the West End up by fourteen per cent and sixteen per cent respectively in one weekend.

The Night Tube provides 24-hour weekend services for the first time in London’s history, helping to cut nighttime journeys by an average of twenty minutes, with some cut by more than an hour.

THE MAYOR of London Sadiq Khan will “accelerate” plans for a bridge from Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf, which could see it open by 2020 as part of a commitment to "greener, public transport-focused crossings".

The bridge, a key manifesto commitment, would see a much needed pedestrian and cycling crossing built to ease congestion on the Jubilee line, and has received widespread support since its conception.

A competitive procurement process will be held next year subject to funding, availability of land and relevant approvals.

Mayor Khan said: “It’s no secret that London has long needed more river crossings in the east. With new homes and economic growth across East London, it becomes even more important that we deliver new greener transport links that allow Londoners to cross the river quickly and more easily.

"But we don’t want these to have a damaging impact on our environment, and that’s why I’ve reviewed and improved plans for Silvertown Tunnel and why I’m pushing forward with crossings that encourage public transport, walking and cycling.

"As we continue to unlock the massive economic potential of East London, we must secure the very best transport infrastructure that improves the quality of life for everyone living and

working in the area.”

The new bridge, it is hoped, will "make it easier for people south of the river to link to Cycle Superhighway 3" – the East-West Cycle Superhighway – as well as provide people north of the river better access to the Thames Path and planned cycle routes throughout Southwark.

Due to the range of river traffic at this location, the bridge would need to open for shipping, and TfL has carried out analysis on whether a bascule or swing style bridge could be more suitable.

Florence Eshalomi, Southwark and Lambeth’s London Assembly member, said: "It's good news. We still need to secure funding for it and I think we should scrap the Garden Bridge and use the money for this."

‘Stolen wiring sparked blaze’ say residents

AN ELDERLY woman was “lucky” to escape a fire that spread from her estate’s communal electrics cupboard, after residents accused rough sleepers of nicking copper from fuse boxes.

The resident, aged 89, was evacuated from her home in Newman House, Elephant and Castle, at 12.28pm on September 24, and remains in St Thomas’ Hospital due to smoke inhalation.

But Maria Hayes and her partner John Pullen, an electrician, believe the fire got out of control because rough sleepers used a key to get into the estate’s intake cupboard, and stole copper safety components from fuse boxes.

Ms Bottomley’s flat was directly above the intake cupboard, where the floor below was left blackened and with melted white paint dripping down the walls and ceiling.

Maria, 44, told the News: “People were breaking in and taking the copper.

It’s why the fire became so intense and dangerous. A UK Power Network representative told us an earth wire had been removed, which is why the fuse protection did not operate.”

Maria added that she had written multiple times to Bermondsey and Old Southwark MP Neil Coyle and Southwark Council leader Peter John to request an intercom security system on the estate.

The News was shown an email in which she wrote to the politicians: “We as residents do not feel 100 per cent safe when entering our properties at night because of these homeless people, as many of them are either drunk or have taken drugs.”

The London Fire Brigade confirmed the fire was caused by an electrical fault, but would not comment on whether the condition of the fuse box was a factor.

urinated.

“I have to walk my twelve-year-old son to the bus stop in the mornings now because there have been times when a girl was injecting heroin right in front of him and tried to chase us,” she said.

But after “fifteen years” of putting up with the intruders and repeatedly asking for help, Maria said the council had written to residents saying a new security system could be on its way, after the estate balloted in favour of getting one earlier in the year.

Cabinet member for housing, councillor Stephanie Cryan, said: “I am sure it has been a stressful period for many residents and I sincerely hope [the elderly resident] is recovering well. We are working to sort out her flat so she can return home. Originally the majority of residents voted against the entry phone system, but we have listened to residents and agreed that it was the right thing to do as security is paramount.

Following a second ballot, this time where the majority of tenants were in

favour of the security measures, we are now installing the entry phones, which I am pleased about. We will continue to talk with residents to ensure we get this right and respond to what they want to happen.”

Recalling the afternoon of the fire, Maria said: “There are no alarms on the estate or anything so no one else knew.

My husband called the fire brigade and the ambulance. Imagine if it had happened in the night. It could have been so much more dangerous.”

Folio looking to evict 9 households over ‘arrears’

A HOUSING association has been slammed for trying to evict nine Bermondsey households in a “nightmare scenario” that “could have been avoided”.

Notting Hill Housing Trust’s (NHHT) private rental arm, Folio, is making moves to evict families who moved to the St James’ Estate on assured shorthold tenancies because of “high arrears”.

Despite an agreement in 2013 between NHHT and residents for a rent increase cap of ten per cent in any one year, arrears are said to have breached the acceptable amount prompting evictions.

Neil Coyle, MP for Bermondsey and Old Southwark, said: “Little appears to have been done to ensure everyone affected by ten per cent or more annual rent increases have been able to meet the higher costs.

“Salaries and other incomes haven't risen by these levels. It's a nightmare scenario which Notting Hill could have helped avoid. It is certainly not the behaviour anyone would expect from a housing association.”

Some residents affected, however, claim NHHT’s records of the arrears from 2011, when they took over the estate, are incorrect.

One resident, James Briley, says he has been taken to court by NHHT every year since 2011 but each time he has had the case thrown out as the judge “is not satisfied with the evidence”.

He told the News: “They’re trying to evict me and they’re already advertising my house!

“They [Folio] keep saying I have high arrears from 2011, but their documents are wrong.

“I am so stressed. I have gone through the documents day in, day out

but my figures are always different to theirs. It makes us feel sick. We have requested for them to come and see us. It’s all about money from my point of view.

“I am 39 and no one is obliged to house me if I leave. We have not got a clue where we would go.”

Another resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said: “I had to get a doorstep loan to pay off the money I owe, so I know I don’t have arrears.

“It makes you angry because they say they’re helping people but they’re not. My kids have seen me cry and they don’t understand why.”

MP success over government assessments

BERMONDSEY AND Old Southwark MP Neil Coyle has won a campaign to stop the Government’s “repeat assessments” for ill people receiving Employment and Support Allowance.

MP Neil has been campaigning to put an end to the assessments for years, since he ran a charity called Disability Alliance - which raised the issue from 2010 and submitted formal

evidence in 2012.

He said: "The Coalition didn't listen to disabled people despite the damage done to their lives, to their families and the chronic waste of public money reassessing people whose health condition would not improve.

"I do not buy that this is a softening of Government policy on cuts to disabled

people.

“If this was genuine, the Department for Work and Pensions would not also be axing vital help for people with learning disabilities and other complex conditions in supported homes.

“The Government is consulting now on slashing crucial help for thousands of disabled people in supported accommodation and must scrap these damaging plans too."

A TREE to remember Bermondsey’s Tommy Blackmore will be unveiled on the Blue later this month, as a permanent tribute to his life.

Organised by members of the community, a gathering will take place to remember Tommy a year on from his death.

Tommy died on June last year when convicted drug dealer Lloyd Smythe from the Tabard Gardens Estate, Borough, delivered a “boxing jab” to the head outside Mono Lounge nightclub near Tower Bridge.

Tommy was a “totally innocent victim” in the unprovoked attack, for which Smythe was jailed for manslaughter.

His death sparked a massive

outpouring of grief, with various events held in his memory such as a pre-match Millwall tribute.

In June this year, Redriff Primary School in Rotherhithe, Tommy’s old school, opened a park in his honour with tributes from his teachers and family.

Bradley Blackmore, Tommy’s brother, said: “It’s good to have it [the tree] away from the scene because of the memories and to stop the residents from moving the flowers.

“It’s the heart of Bermondsey and people will come and pass through and see what this legend did with his life.

“That tree will be there for longer than most of us.”

The unveiling will happen at 1:30pm on October 22 at the Blue market place in Southwark Park Road, all are welcome.

THE MAYOR of Southwark ordered the dispatch of two live ducks to the Castle Leisure Centre last week, to promote her forthcoming ‘Duckathon’ charity swim.

On Thursday last week Mayor Kath Whittam was joined by Camberwell resident and Call the Midwife actor Jenny Agutter to promote her duck-themed

swimathon.

Between November 14 and 20 residents are invited to swim lengths at their local pool, with proceedings going to mayor Kath’s chosen charities, the National Autism Society and Surrey Docks Farm – who provided the white ducks pictured.

To take part in the mayor’s Duckathon, swimmers can get into teams or go it alone. You just need to record your distance, and forward your sponsor money to

THE CREATION of a huge new performing arts university in Peckham was given unanimous approval by Southwark Council’s planning committee on Wednesday.

The prestigious Mountview Academy submitted plans earlier this year to expand from its base in Wood Green to a brown-field site called Eagle Wharf, behind Peckham Library.

The part-three-four-and-five-storey building was designed by Carl Turner Architects. Inside, it will have

nineteen TV/dance/acting studios, two television studios, a radio studio, a 200-seat theatre and an 80-seat “black box” studio.

The Academy will offer undergraduate, masters and foundation-level qualifications, and be available for commercial and community use on weekends and holidays.

The plans also included a roof-top public restaurant and bar. Vehicle access would be from Peckham Hill Street.

Mountview’s Chairman, Vikki Heywood CBE, said: “Mountview will be both a dynamic public building and a thriving and diverse

training environment.

“World-class facilities will enable our local, national and international students to excel, working with

leading industry professionals. We will also welcome thousands of young people and members of the local community to the building each

year for classes, events and to enjoy shows.”

Members of the Southwark Conservation Areas Advisory Group had previously raised concerns about the affect the new building might have on the views from Peckham Library towards central London.

A report written by Southwark’s planning team has said the scheme “complies with the guidance in the conservation area appraisal, and does not appear overly dominant in this sensitive historic context”.

The Planning Committee meeting held on September 28 saw all of the Labour and Liberal Democrat councillors vote in favour.

Damilola drama to be premiered

A 157-year-old leather-bound Bible has been returned to Bermondsey’s United St Saviour’s Charity, after the daughter of a late former clerk found it among his belongings.

The large Bible was found by Sarah Jackson as she went through her late father’s possessions in Devon, and reached out to the charity to see if they would like it.

Martyn Craddock, Chief Executive of United St Saviour’s Charity, said: “Her father was called Forbes Melville and he was clerk to the Corporation of Wardens of the Parish of St Saviour’s right up until 1992.

“I don’t know how long he was clerk for. Sarah thinks that the Bible came from the church from our almshouses in Norwood.

“So she said ‘would you like it’ and we said come in and she gave it to us! It’s lovely and old and huge. The

only thing I can think of in terms of the date is that it’s the time the Norwood almshouse opened because they moved from Borough Market.

“They built the viaducts in Borough Market and had to demolish the almshouses. We have a service once a year where we like to commemorate the people who

founded our almshouses. It would be nice to use it then!”

United St Saviour’s Charity was founded in 1540 during the reign of Henry VI as the Guild of the Fraternity of the Blesses Virgin Mary, and was later incorporated under Henry VIII to manage parish affairs and local charities for the people of Bermondsey.

The feature-length programme will be shown on BBC1 this autumn, after it was screened at The Dolby in Soho Square at 10am followed by a Q&A. In the year 2000, ten-year-old Damilola’s life was taken from him when he was stabbed with a glass bottle by two youths.

His killers, brothers Danny and Ricky Preddie, were aged twelve and thirteen when they were given eight-year sentences for manslaughter.

Our Loved Boy was written by award-winning screenwriter and playwright, Levi David Addai. The story is told from the point of view of the Taylor family. It explores their journey from Lagos to London, and the emotional repercussions they experienced in their quest for justice.

Damilola’s father, who founded the Damilola Taylor Centre at the North Peckham Estate, will be played by actor Babou Ceesay.

Mr Taylor’s late wife, Gloria, will be played by Wunmi Mosaku, who said: “It’s humbling to be a part of Our Loved Boy. Damilola’s smile still resonates deeply within the UK and beyond” Damilola will be played by a twelve-year-old schoolboy born and raised in south London.

Mudlarker finds Medieval shoe along Thames foreshore - and it’s still laced up!

A MEDIEVAL shoe that was still laced up was found on the banks of the Thames by Rotherhithe’s mudlarker this week.

Alan Murphy, who’s been mudlarking for fifteen years, found the leather shoe that was laced with cloth, leading him to think it may have had a lady owner.

All change for 100 and 388 buses?

SOUTHWARK: Transport for London (TfL) has begun a consultation on changes to the 100 and 388 bus services to Elephant and Castle.

It is proposed that the 100 service would be shortened to only run between Wapping and the Museum of London, and no longer serve Elephant.

It is instead suggested that the 388 from Stratford City Bus Station and Blackfriars Station could be extended to take over the 100 route which could be cut. TfL has said both routes are less busy west of Liverpool Street, and currently have more services than required. Foodbank appeals for donations

WALWORTH: A foodbank run by English Martyrs Catholic Church is appealing for donations to help feed those in need.

Having given food to 46 people in just one day recently, the foodbank is starting to struggle with the demand.

Philomena O’Gorma, a volunteer, said: “We get a certain amount of money from the parish but sometimes we don’t have enough. We do our best.

This morning [Tuesday] we had twelve people coming before nine o’clock which has never happened before. The over flow has not stopped. We had more than 70 people in one week. In one day we had 46 people. It was started by Father Thomas when he came to the parish. People were ringing the door asking for food and he found it distressing.”

It’s a whopper! Meat factory developers unveil tower plans

THE DEVELOPERS of the old Hygrade Meat Factory, in Acorn Wharf and Surrey Wharf, have unveiled proposals for a 36 storey tower, and a series of smaller buildings standing at six to twenty storeys.

Berkeley Homes revealed the plans for more than 850 homes at their latest consultation, which build on plans for regenerating Malt Street after feedback from 87 residents earlier in the year.

The height of the main tower has attracted concern from the nearby Unwin and Friary Estate Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, but talks are underway to deal with any issues.

Michael Orey, of the Unwin and Friary TRA, said: “We are not opposing it and are in discussion with Berkeley Homes. At this point in time they are working with residents and finding out what we want from the development.

“Some people are not happy with the height of the building they are proposing because it will obscure their views. But we are still in discussion with them to see what they will do.

“It’s a positive thing. They appear to be listening as we have had a couple of meetings. We want all our residents to have an opportunity to comment on this. If there are any issues they need to be dealt with at the beginning.”

Berkeley Homes also revealed a commitment to making 50 per cent of the site “open space”, create “over 200

permanent new jobs”, and “green routes north to south and east to west” along the new public square.

Berkeley Homes is looking to submit a planning application for the 5.3 acre Malt Street site by the end of 2016.

Pregnant women urged to get support to stop smoking PREGNANT WOMEN are four times more likely to quit smoking with NHS support according to experts from Guy’s and St Thomas’.

The Trust is encouraging local women to get support during ‘Stoptober’.

Around 83,000 babies are born in England each year to mothers who smoke right up to the birth of their baby.

Smoking during pregnancy increases the risks of miscarriage, stillbirth and birth defects.

It also increases the likelihood that babies will be born early, have a low birth weight, need to stay in hospital for longer, or develop a long-term illness like asthma.

A DELIVERY driver sobbed in the dock last week as he was cleared of killing a King’s College Hospital physiotherapist as she cycled to work.

Canavan’s told to apply for licence

PECKHAM: The manager of Canavan’s Pool Club in Rye Lane has been told by the council to make a fresh application for the right to operate as a nightclub and pool venue.

The News reported last month that Kieran Canavan had been caught out by a peculiarity in council planning rules.

The authority wrote to Kieran last month to say he did not have planning permission to use the venue as a nightclub and pool venue, despite him being granted a licence for both activities in 2011.

To bypass having to get planning permission, Kieran tried to prove to the council that the club had been used for pool and night entertainment for over ten years – which by English planning law grants automatic planning permission.

But on September 22 planning officers wrote to reject this attempt.

Writing on the Canavan’s Facebook page, Kieran said: “I did not win my case for the certificate of lawfulness. In short the council did not believe my evidence that these premises have been used as a late night venue for more than ten years. All is not lost yet, the council do acknowledge that Canavan's is here and have given me the opportunity to now apply for permission to regularise the use of my club. Obviously I am going to do this. ” A change.org online petition to support the venue has attracted 4,550 signatures.

This week, London mayor Sadiq Khan unveiled plans to ban thousands of lorries from London to make roads safer for cyclists.

The mayor proposes to introduce a rating system for HGVs based on the level of vision the driver has from the cab. The lorries would be rated between zero and five stars.

It is said there are 35,000 zero-star rated HGVs currently in travelling around London's roads. If the plans are implemented they would all be banned by January 2020. As a council, we’re also playing our part to improve road safety to increase the number of people safely cycling in the borough.

Council meeting over future of youth centre

PECKHAM RESIDENTS who have anxiously waited to hear about the future of their cherished youth centre in Peckham Park Road were due to meet with Southwark Council today.

Before the meeting, Leyton Square Play Hut volunteer Michael Orey told the News locals feared it would close – something the council has since ruled out.

But members of staff were still waiting for their contracts to be renewed, and they had learnt that the hut’s opening hours had been reduced to two-days per week.

Three-hundred people attended a huge barbeque at the site on September 18 to rally support and prove its popularity, which was also attended by former Reading and Sunderland footballer Anton Ferdinand.

His brother, former England star, Rio Ferdinand, who grew up using the centre, wrote on social media: “[Southwark Council] can we talk about this please...kids' hopes and dreams are given a platform from these type of places.

“I’m one of the lucky ones (who worked his butt off) and it would be wrong of me to let this place be closed without me using the leverage I now have to at least engage with the council.”

Two petitions have also taken off in support of keeping Leyton Square alive, one online which has 408 supporters, and another hand-produced petition that was given to the council.

Philip Beadle, 48, broke down after a jury at Blackfriars Crown Court on Friday found him not guilty of causing death by careless driving.

Esther Hartsilver, 32, went under the wheels of Beadle’s 40ft HGV as he turned off Denmark Hill on May 28 last year. She was taking her regular route to work through rush-hour traffic to when she was hit at around 8am.

Ms Hartsilver was dragged underneath the lorry suffering “catastrophic injuries” just 100 yards from the hospital.

She was taken to the hospital where colleagues fought to save her life but died later that same day.

Ms Hartsilver, from Islington, specialised in pelvic treatments and had previously worked at Guys and St Thomas' hospital.

Beadle – from Colchester, and who works for Co-op – maintained throughout that he never saw Ms Hartsilver approaching on his left.

He said he checked his mirrors, indicated early and took the turn into Orpheus Street from Denmark Hill safely and correctly.

Strongmen will pull in crowd DULWICH

DULWICH’S STRONGEST men will pull a car 60m as part of the Dulwich Strongman on Saturday, to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) and for Lymes disease.

With the first ever competition taking place in May raising more than £1,800 for charity, and seeing strongman legend, Jon Valgeir Williams contend, this month they

hope to smash their record.

Organiser Stephen Hill, who is raising money for GOSH because his cousin’s sons both go there for kidney disease check-ups, said: “Jon Valgeir Williams, an ex-strongest man finalist is, competing again, and my cousin, whom gave his kidney to his son is coming again to compete and enjoy the spectacular event.

“We have about twenty competitors, and want as many spectators as possible. The car pull looks the most exciting event -

pulling a car will be great to watch!

“I'm hoping to get as much money for charity as possible and to have a great time with the College sports club members.”

On the day Stephen will also be selling cakes, bacon rolls and t-shirts to raise further funds for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The competition starts at 1pm on Saturday at Dulwich College Sports Club.

MORE THAN two hundred schoolchildren beat drums and sang songs around Bermondsey Spa Gardens last week, as part of Boutcher Church of England Primary School’s carnival event.

Now in its fourth year, schoolchildren marched out of their school and around the garden wearing themed costumes and singing along to carnival music.

Afterwards they went back to the school playground where parents watched each class perform a different type of music.

Eilidh Verhoeven, head teacher of Boutcher, said: “We just wanted something to do that could involve everyone. We are a small community and know everyone by name. We want to do something easy too.

“We do themes each year and this year is Leaders. It always gets people participating too and it makes them feel part of the community.”

Author comes full circle PECKHAM

THE STORY of how a local author wrote her first novel came full circle last week, as she gave kids a presentation at the library where she wrote it.

Jo Franklin, a graduate of Goldsmith University who lives near Forest Hill, gave an inspiring talk to youngsters at Peckham Library on Friday, which she hopes will get kids raring to write.

“I think the library is a really important study space and we’re lucky in Southwark While other boroughs are struggling to keep theirs open,” she said.

Jo spent about five years going to Peckham Library to craft her new children’s novel ‘Help I’m an Alien’, which was published in June by Troika Books.

Jo told the News: “I found while I was writing I didn’t have the difficulty of being somewhere I

would be tempted to constantly make tea or do the washing. I can really focus on work. So I was going to Peckham Library every day.”

The story then follows ten-year-old Daniel who feels he is the odd-oneout from his family because he is so much taller.

When his sister calls him an “alien” he makes it his mission to find his way home outer space, and goes on a mission to Kepler 22-B, a real planet located 600 light years from Earth.

AN HIV support charity that was stripped of funding to provide counselling and advice services has raised concerns for the future of its patients.

The Terrence Higgins Trust will no longer operate in Southwark, Lewisham and Lambeth – a decision made by each borough’s NHS clinical commissioning group (CCG).

Aylesbury plan to face scrutiny

THE COUNCIL’S decision to appeal the government’s rejection of its attempt to buy-out leaseholders from Phase One of the Aylesbury Estate is to face a scrutiny committee next week.

A cross-party scrutiny committee will meet on Monday to “hold to account” the decisions of council officers and senior councillors who wanted to make a compulsory purchase order (CPO) of eight remaining leaseholders’ flats.

In its decision to block the CPO, the government inspector wrote that Southwark would end up contravening leaseholders’ human rights. It said the CPO would force leaseholders to move far away to find replacement homes and cause them “considerable economic, social and environmental dis-benefits”.

Southwark Lib Dem leader Anood AlSamerai told the News: “We want to scrutinise the council’s decision to take it to the high court. The inspector’s decision was pretty damning about the way they are treating the leaseholders.

“We are concerned they are going to spend so much money trying to take this to the high court.

“If the government’s decision means councils are made to give residents good deals on their flats, then this is going to set a good precedent.”

A Southwark Labour spokesperson said “The cost of taking a judicial review will be significantly less than the potential of paying leaseholders hundreds of thousands above the market value of their homes. [This] wouldn’t be fair to council tenants and taxpayers who would have to foot the bill.

“This CPO decision is delaying 800 new homes being built on this site, which is not in the interest of residents.

“The council is offering market value plus ten per cent. In the case of leaseholders who actually live on the estate, they are being offered a range of options including shared equity on a new home in the area.

“If the council didn’t appeal the CPO decision, it would mean that regeneration schemes like this couldn’t take place because leaseholders could hold councils to ransom, demanding much higher amounts for their homes than they independently valued to be worth.”

Council, while HIV carriers in Southwark will be seen to by Citizens Advice and other “mainstream services”.

The Trust’s chief executive, Ian Green, said: “People living with HIV in these areas will be offered counselling and advice through mainstream services,” which a spokesperson for the charity confirmed will be Citizens Advice.

He added: “We are saddened to report that, after a full public consultation, local commissioners have taken the final decision to move ahead with plans to cut the specialist advice and counselling

services in these boroughs.

“We will of course work positively with the council and CCGs to effectively manage the transition of services over the three month notice period.

“We understand how concerned people affected by these cuts will be, and we share these concerns for the wellbeing of people living with HIV in south London.”

Dr Michael Brady, the charity’s medical director, suggested mainstream services would not be up to the same standard. He said: “Unfortunately stigma around HIV remains rife.

Specialist counselling and support services may be the only place where people can be open about their HIV or find advice and support around issues like coping with their diagnosis, telling a partner or dealing with low self-esteem.

I would be concerned for my patients’ wellbeing if they no longer had access to these services.”

But a statement from Southwark CCG has responded saying that after consultations between May and June, it believes only a “small proportion” of HIV sufferers used Terrence Higgins, and that “changing treatment and

diagnosis” mean most people living with HIV “can now work and have a normal life expectancy”.

“Treatment has transformed HIV from a fatal disease into a long term condition,” it said. “Members of the expanded HIV-peer-support service will receive additional training on the new service model, and staff in the mainstream services will receive additional training on the needs of people living with HIV.” It added that charities Metro, and Positive Parenting, will continue to provide peer support, family-HIV, and mentoring services.

Owners of condemned flats fear housing association could back out of price deal PECKHAM

RESIDENTS WHOSE newly-built flats were condemned for demolition are fearful the housing association trying to buy back their homes could back out of an offer to accept the highest property valuations.

Leaseholders and shared-equity owners in Solomon’s Passage by Peckham Rye Park were told by Wandle Housing Association in April that their homes would be demolished or given extensive work due to subsidence and water leaks.

The four blocks with 85 homes were built by Greenacre Homes (South East) Ltd, which went into administration shortly after construction in 2011, and was dissolved earlier this year.

One resident of five years told the News: “I thought we would stay here forever. We have worked so hard and spent so much money to make this flat ours, and it’s all going to go down in rubble.”

Another said it would force their children to move schools and make them consider having to find a new job.

Letters written to the leaseholders from Wandle in July said: “Wandle has offered to cover the cost of up to three independent valuations carried out to (RICS) Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors standards. Once we are satisfied that any company you wish to use are a RICS-registered valuer, we will make a payment for this and uphold the higher valuation.”

The News spoke to thirteen leaseholders and shared-equity owners who all said Wandle’s chosen surveyor gave them the lowest price.

the three flat valuations. The News understands that seventeen leaseholders have used a company which gave greater valuations than Wandle’s company – in some cases with a difference of £200,000.

In response, Wandle hired global realestate firm Savills to “validate” the leaseholders’ preferred valuations.

One of the Solomon’s Passage residents, who did not want to be named said: “We [the residents] have been quiet over the last few months as we have been trying not to jeopardise our personal situations. Wandle’s communication with us has also changed. They have suddenly become very evasive. It seems very cloak and dagger.”

Wandle confirmed that the affected residents had been given a deadline of October 20 to sign a deal, or the threevaluations would be binned. The News was also told that two leaseholders who

decided to sell-up were forced by Wandle to sign “non-disclosure agreements” effectively gagging them from talking about their experiences.

A Wandle spokesman said: “Wandle has received resident-commissioned valuations from a variety of different RICS-registered valuers. Most of these valuers have provided valuations that are within a reasonable range. The valuations from one specific firm have reported an increase of up to 50 per cent compared to other valuations.”

They added that Wandle is a not-forprofit organisation with responsibilities to manage its finances “prudently, and ensure value for money”.

They said: “It is normal that transactions of this size would go through a process of independent checks and validations.”

They also said Savills had “applied equal scrutiny” to all valuations, not just

the leaseholder commissioned ones.

“Wandle continues to be committed to the principles of the offer made to leaseholders and shared owners, and there is no intention of reneging on this,” the spokesperson said.

Regarding the deadline, Wandle said it would still buy-back homes beyond October 20, but those offers will be “considered on a case-by-case basis”.

“If any residents are feeling pressured to make a decision, we would ask them to speak to us so that we can offer any support they may need, Wandle has been, and continues to be, flexible to the needs and circumstances of residents during this difficult period,” they said.

On the non-disclosure agreements, Wandle said: “Confidentiality provides residents with protection against pressure to reveal the details of their settlement and avoids confusion arising from the variations in offers.”

OST PEOPLE in Southwark voted to ‘Remain’ and I'm deeply disappointed that we will be leaving the EU. But as ‘Leave’ won, the government must ensure that we suffer as little as possible by leaving.

I'll be pressing the government to protect our economy and our opportunities for the future and tell us what they're up to: 1. The government must say when they will be putting the weekly sum of £350m into the NHS they promised as part of a "Brexit dividend". This was written on their ‘Leave’ campaign bus but we've heard nothing of it since the vote.

2. The government must guarantee areas who've been promised EU funds for infrastructure like roads and bridges that they will not lose the money when we leave the EU, but they'll get it from our government.

3. They must ensure we stay in the single market so our companies exporting to EU countries don't have to pay tariffs which will make their goods more expensive.

4. They must be ready to support industries whose exports are threatened by the ten per cent tariffs that will go on our goods being sold to the EU. We must not lose vital investment such as Nissan in the North East, because we've left the EU 5. They must tell the many EU nationals who live in this country, some who've lived, worked and brought up their families that they will not be kicked out.

6. On leaving the EU we'll have to negotiate new trade agreements with every country in the world we want to trade with to replace the trade agreements with countries like China and Cambodia, that we have by virtue of our membership of the EU. All EU trade deals require the countries we trade with to protect minimum human rights standards; to outlaw child labour and forced labour and to protect the right to join trade unions. When we negotiate new trade deals for ourselves with countries we wish to trade with we must ensure that those human rights clauses are included. We must not become the weak link in the quest to improve human rights around the world.

7. The government must publish every three months the increase in the number of civil servants who have been employed on the Brexit negotiations, and their pay bill.

Going it alone outside the EU means that instead of sharing work on treaty negotiations, we'll have to do them ourselves which will involve thousands more civil servants costing hundreds of millions of pounds. It is likely the £350m a week will go on lawyers and consultants negotiating Brexit rather than our NHS. 8. The government must commit to matching rights that employees get in the EU. Britain's workers can't slip behind on issues like equal pay and maternity rights.

9. The PM must take a personal grip on this. She can't leave it to her warring ministers.

Cyclists learn the highway code

IN REPLY to Caroline Russell's letter about the government's film, did we watch the film?

The bike was at the back of the lorry then started to undertake it !

If cyclists knew the highway code they should only undertake if a vehicle is turning right sadly as most accidents involve this scenario they don't seem to know the rules of the road.

I have seen many cyclists make this manoeuvre many times and they want to blame the lorry drivers who have no idea that there being undertaken.

The Highway Code is there for every road user to abide by lorry drivers and vulnerable cyclists.

Maybe all cyclists should be tested on the rules of the road before there allowed on them, just a thought could save many an accident.

Right to return

It is depressing to read your stories about the demolished WoodDene block, which left an eyesore for a decade on Queen’s Road Peckham.

As a former ward councillor, I worked hard with Danny Smith, the tenants chair and active tenants like Michael Bukola to get Southwark to agree the Right to Return for the decamped. .

To its credit, Southwark Housing found suitable new homes for many.

But that still left lots of worthy people disappointed. Southwark Property has totally reneged on the council’s promises. No tenants will be able to return. Less than a sixth, just 54 out of 333 new homes will be for social housing, as you report, with a few more allocated for “shared ownership”.

The rest are to be sold by developers Notting Hill Housing as a further exercise in gentrification by Labour Southwark. This can be added to its appalling tally of some 700 homes sold or demolished and just a few built. No hint of Corbynism here, then.

Council’s good work on fraud

I'M SURE many readers were appalled to read that a housing officer illegally allocated homes to people who lied to get council homes, (Southwark News September 29, 2016).

I'm glad Southwark is using the full weight of the 2013 Housing Fraud law. Taking back 42 homes from these criminals is only part of the story, because the reputation of the housing staff suffers too. As a council tenant across four decades, I've lost count of the times I've heard rumours of illegal allocations. I've always dismissed the rumours as malicious, but they undermine confidence in staff.

Southwark, one of the biggest landlords in the country needs to continue to send a clear message to criminals.

Well done and 'Thank-You' to the fraud department for 'Operation Bronze' - thank you for protecting the reputation of our housing staff, as well as making sure those most deserving of council housing are not cheated out of a home by greedy criminals.

Save Rotherhithe’s historic red crane

SOUTHWARK COUNCIL want to demolish The Red Scotch Derrick Crane that has stood on a Wharf at Odessa Street Rotherhithe since the 1940s.

It is to be replaced with an eleven storey block of flats built by Hollybrook developers. The flats, that will over shadow existing buildings, will look over the river and are mainly private properties.

This Red Scotch Derrick Crane is the only one left in London Docklands, it was erected after World War Two and is drawn on the ordinance survey map of 1949 when it was one of several in the area, it was used up until the early 1980s.

The London Docklands Development Corporation refurbished it and laid out a public space around it to allow the crane to be appreciated for its part in history on the

Docklands.

When the LDDC was wound down the Covenant was passed to Southwark Council who left it to fall into disrepair. Unfortunately in 2014 Southwark Council and the then Mayor of London removed the Covenant so the land could be sold development.

The crane is viewed from the river by passing boats and walkers on the Thames path. It is part of London Docklands Heritage and should remain where it is with the open spaces around it.

Although the disrepair of the crane can be seen it is only neglect by Southwark Council that has caused this and it could be brought back to how it looked originally.

Is Camberwell on a new flight path?

HAS ANYONE else in Southwark noticed the increased visibility and audibility of planes as they fly over Southwark on their arrival path to Heathrow?

I have lived in SE5 for almost 30 years and until August was not aware of air traffic overflying.

Now, seven days a week, there is the relentless screech and grind of engine brakes from 4,30am until 11 or 11.30pm, at times planes passing almost continuously. Autumn is upon us

EPTEMBER WAS warm and dry with record breaking temperatures - the autumn equinox fell on the 22nd which is the point where day and night are of equal length.

October is usually changeable as the autumn rains and gales move in, although it can still be mild, weather patterns are becoming more unpredictable and it’s hard to know what to expect. British summer time ends on the 30th October which will make it seem more like winter; that exceptional hot summer is well and truly behind us.

Back in July trees were losing leaves due to warm, arid winds; now the autumn leaf fall is well underway in response to lower light levels and cooler days. Many of the plants in flower are either left from the summer borders or are autumn perennials such as Dahlias (pictured), Sedum and Michaelmas daisy. Joining the display of colour will be the falling leaves and bright berries on shrubs such as Pyracantha and Cotoneaster.

Window box displays can be changed to a mix of seasonal plants - dwarf conifers, smaller Hebes plus ivies to give a backdrop to Pansies, Cyclamens or Violas. Herb plants can also be used as the evergreen component - try Lavender Munstead, the low growing compact Thymes and Rosemary ‘Prostratus’ which will trail over the sides of containers. Other plants to consider are heathers, ferns and spring flowering bulbs.

Spring flowering bulbs can also be planted in the garden during October; Puschkinia (related to the bluebell) has attractive pale blue flowers with a darker blue line through the petals. Star of Bethlehem, has delicate star shaped flowers of pure white; it can become invasive and so confine bulbs to one area of the garden and keep it in check. The Spring Starflower has eye catching blue, fragrant blooms which continue for several weeks. It also goes by the exotic name of ‘Ipheion’ (Flower of the Incas).

With continuing mild conditions, grass will need cutting for a while yet; if there are dead patches as a result of the scorching summer heat and extensive repairs are required, new turf can be laid during October. This is not a complicated task, success is achieved by good preparation – raking out dead grass, loosening the soil and spiking, watering thoroughly before laying the new turves; to ensure they are level add or remove soil.

Gangsta Shakespeare The director, Matthew Dunster, has adhered to Shakespeare’s original script but transported it to modern day London using an eclectic cast representing a wide cross-section of today’s Londoners in an apparent effort to please all. The actors themselves come from both classically trained and community actors and even include William Grint a young deaf actor in the role of Arviragus, one of the stolen sons of Cymbeline, the King. His lines were often spoken by his brother or expressed by sign language.

The entire cast was enthusiastic and engaged in the play; of particular note were the outstanding performances of Imogen (Maddy Hill) and Cloten (Joshua Lacey), who arrogantly strutted around the stage until he lost his head - literally.

The cultivation, trading and abuse of drugs was present throughout the performance as a matter of fact. The opposing Romans and Britons were remodeled as modern day gangs with black and white tracksuits, hoodies and branded trainers.

Impressive choreography by Christopher Akrill greatly enhanced the play, especially during the acrobatic battle scene when Romans and Britons fight in the air hanging from wires, balancing and counterbalancing their opponents The Matrix in tracksuits.

The sets were reminiscent of a modern day abattoir: minimalist, stark concrete and industrial curtains,

beyond which the evil Queen (ClareLouise Cordwell) overdoses on heroin.

It is still a happy reunion for the innocent Imogen and her husband Posthumus (Ira Mandela Siobhan), and Cymbeline, who finds amongst the victorious Britons his two estranged sons.

The play finishes with unstoppably energetic dancing with the whole audience clapping and joining in the singing. Go and see it and be prepared to be shocked and electrified by the “cocaine rush”.

ir Antony Gormley is known for using his own body as the template for his art but in recent years, still using the body and how it fits into our surrounding architecture as his starting point, Gormley has now stripped the body down to lines or solid blocks for Fit, his latest exhibition, by Michael Holland...

Through their titles the silent structures in Fit are able to speak.

You want to put a comforting hand on Big Shy as she seeks safety against the wall under the disapproving gaze of Big Charge.

Block, one of the larger pieces where Sir Antony posed for the press and explained where the head, arm and elbows were to aid our understanding, took me back to the crude, undecorated concrete maze and playhouse on the Silwood Estate, Bermondsey, that I grew up on, and the National Theatre building that has been attracting comment for decades now. Here the concrete becomes human and not brutal.

Passage is an interactive work where the participant enters into the human-shaped black hole and walks in darkness for 12 metres along the steel structure with your footsteps echoing around inside. Like Richard Wilson’s 20:50 installation, there is a feeling of trepidation the further in you get, eased only by the reassuring sounds of others on the outside. The interactiveness of this piece made it my favourite.

This talk will look at the subjects, symbolism and the legacy of Dutch marine painting of this era. Record Breaker: The World’s Longest Landscape As part of The Big Draw, the Dulwich Picture Gallery is attempting to create the world’s longest landscape, inspired by Adriaen van de Velde. The mixed media landscape masterpiece will be based on the sights and communities of South East London. People are invited to come along and draw anything that reflects their favourite things about being in London, to join a number of professional illustrators in creating the record breaking piece. I would imagine it is difficult to stumble into an Antony Gormley exhibition and enjoying it without previously knowing and understanding his work. I know it and love it; one of my favourite artworks is his Another Place, which

Here’s Hoping Times are tough and the news is grim. Daisy and Pablo were in need of some hope,

so they thought they should make a show about it. They wanted it to be a show about the triumph of hope, but it turned out that things are not as simple as that. They are knotted and complex. acellaio (Italian for Butcher) opened its first London restaurant and butchery in 2012 in Kensington, followed by a second in Clerkenwell, and in recent weeks their third establishment hit the ground running in the new development of railway arches off Union Street where they pride themselves on using only the best that Italy has to offer, writes Michael Holland...

This new Macellaio, The Butcher’s Theatre, is a temple to all things beef, where they dry-age their meat in a room with a huge glass viewing window that looks upon a stark scene of hanging beef reminiscent of a Damien Hirst artwork; where their theatrical stage at one end of the restaurant allows the butchers to chop huge ribs with panache, and slice bresaola and salame with dexterous skill, in full sight of their adoring audience.

First of all let me say that the final bill is in no way indicative of an average meal in The Butcher’s Theatre. I and Nina left the choices of dishes and accompanying wines entirely up to them so, wanting to show off their best food and drinks, they picked four different starters for us, the most expensive wines, three desserts and overall overfed us in the most beautiful way.

Our wine waiter, who went by the name of Clark Kent to his colleagues, first brought us a glass each of Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige, a sparkling Chardonnay that lifted the palate and opened the taste buds for our first course of home made bread from the restaurant’s own bakery on the 2nd level, and Salame and Bresaola from their own Fassona cattle that are reared in Italy’s Piedmont region.

While we made ‘hmmms’ and ‘aahhs’ of deep satisfaction over the freshness of the bread and the charcuterie, a plate of Beef Tongue with Salsa Verde arrived, a delicious part of a cow that no doubt will give up everything from nose to tail here; its soft texture and full flavour blending nicely with the salsa.

Soon a Focaccia al Formaggio arrived with an in-depth explanation of the thin crust and creamy cheeses involved in this mouth-watering dish. A plate of Prosciutto was brought to go along with this and what a winning team they made. Clark topped up our wine and on the dais a butcher brought his cleaver down upon a side of beef. We looked at each other. ‘Did you see the width of that steak?’ I asked, but Nina was up to

her elbows in melted Stracchino Cheese.

Next came Battuta with Spicy Gorgonzola, flamed with a blowtorch at the table by one of the waiting team.

This was steak tartare with a cheesy twist and was absolutely delicious. As we tucked in to the raw meat an uncooked steak as big as a small dog was presented to us to check out the perfect marbling. ‘I hope they don’t give us one each,’ I whimpered to my partner. As I spoke our waitress set the table for the main course by stabbing the steak knives into the wood. This is all part of the wonderful show.

At this point I stopped eating, knowing that there was a whole lot more to come, although my partner continued with the cheese and Parma ham for a while longer.

The Butcher’s Theatre is all performance and style, but not without substance. Everyone here knows their stuff; they talk about the meat, food and wines with expert knowledge. They make you salivate as you listen to the information about grape varieties, climates and meat drying for months and months to add flavour, plus they feed you like a long lost cousin.

Clark, like a true Super Hero, talked us into a Chiavannesca, a fruity red wine

THE DAMAGE

that held its own alongside the huge Beef Rib that was now placed before us, perfectly cooked and dressed only in Virgin Olive Oil and Rock Salt. We pulled the knives from the table and cut into what was one of the juiciest slabs of meat I’ve ever had the good fortune to eat - they sliced through the perfectly pink steak as if it was blancmange.

We were also served the most delicious Roasted Potatoes in Aromatic Herbs, Green Beans in Breadcrumbs and Lemon Zest, and Broccoli with Fresh Chilli - Simply cooked vegetables to go with a simply cooked piece of beef.

By now we had been feasting for almost 90 minutes, and knew there would be extra time. Clark swooped in offering a Passito Di Pantelleria Moscato dessert wine that was a real joy, very moreish, and just right for the

Chocolate Cake, Cheesecake and White Caramel with Basil that caught us delightfully by surprise – We weren’t expecting this pannacotta like dish to be bursting with so much basil flavour - A stroke of genius. Merely sampling all three of these Italian beauties was the best we could achieve as we could not finish them all, as nice as they were.

While we finished off with Espressos I looked at the smile of satisfaction on Nina’s face and just knew I would have the same look of contentment on mine.

Macellaio’s Butcher’s Theatre is a welcome addition to SE London’s flourishing food scene. It is for the adoration of beef cooked with love and passion.

IT’S NOW time to make some real decisions about your future once you have taken your GCSEs you officially will be an adult, writes Kevin Quinn...

Mum and dad will no longer be responsible for your education, nor will the government; and believe it or not, neither will your teachers.

It will be entirely up to you to decide which path you take - and while everyone including the government is heavily focused on apprenticeships, there will be many of you who will want to follow the traditional academic route. Of course the results you get at secondary school will to a large extent determine what you do in further education. But now is the time to look at what sixth forms and further education institutes are offering.

Unlike secondary school admissions you have the freedom to go where you like - it does not have to be local - but bear in mind journey times. You don’t want to be exhausted before you arrive at college!

Being in the final year of your GCSEs, you will have a fair idea of the results you are likely to achieve and make sure that when you call or visit a sixth form or college you find out the exact qualifications you need to get on the courses that you like the

look of.

The truth is, if you are really passionate about a course but feel that you might not get the grades, it would be worth thinking about re-sitting.

After spending the whole of your life in school you might think that re-

sitting any GCSE would be completely out of the question.

However, at your age, making sure that you do something that you feel passionate about and enjoy is absolutely vital. Countless people have had to work that bit harder and

give something a go twice before they succeed. The experience at sixth form or college will be so different to that at school that you should find the change enough to warrant the extra effort and time it takes to re-sit an examine or start a new one to get on

to the course you are ultimately after.

The relationship with most of your teachers will be very different, as they will treat you more like an adult.

After all you don’t have to be there it is your choice. This means that lessons are normally more relaxed and you usually spend more time with smaller groups than you would do at secondary school.

While there is little doubt that Alevels are much harder than GCSEs, the fact that you have fewer subjects and are studying your favourite or best subjects means you will find the self-motivation to get to grips with it.

The work will be much more in depth, but probably more interesting.

Essay subjects at A-level are much more about analysis and evaluation than just pure facts. This means that you can no longer get away with having a basic knowledge of a subject and then blagging the exam or just learning reams of facts without actually understanding them.

On the plus side you definitely get more freedom, including free periods (usually eleven or so hours a week), which allows you to plan when and how you work.

As well as the courses, check out the facilities at the sixth forms and colleges you are interested in, as they can help make your whole working environment a better one.

Fisher players celebrate after scoring against Hollands and Blair

FISHER BOSS Gary Abbott has vowed to solve Fisher FC’s defensive problems following their 4-3 defeat against Hollands and Blair last Saturday.

Whilst Fisher have one of the better scoring records in the Southern Counties East Premier Division they also have one of the worst records in the goals against column too.

That was once again illustrated at the weekend as goals flew in at both ends, but the Black and Whites ended up with no points.

Abbott said: “We have caused teams so

many problems going forward, it’s great football and exciting to watch which is exactly what we want. Today we’ve gone out and hit the post five times, the bar twice and had three saved off the line.”

He added: “They [the players] are all good kids, but as we know it’s the defensive side again that’s letting us down and to sort that out I know we need to get experience in at the back, a no nonsense centre half who wins headers, talks a lot and is a bit nasty.”

On Saturday Trey Williams scored twice for the Fish whilst Spencer Forte also netted. But a hat-trick from James McDonald and a Lois Valancia effort saw the visitors leave with all the points.

The Fisher boss said: “The information on the pitch is not good enough, one man needs to attack, one drop off and the two full backs tuck in, it’s that simple, but it’s not happening.

“We should be celebrating tonight. Once again I’ve got to finish with praise for our supporters. The fans were brilliant again, even when they went 4-3 up they were still singing. All I can ask is they keep singing and we will turn it around.”

Casey Kilillea head homes a goal against Bridon Ropes

A LATE disallowed Harry Gamble goal meant Stansfeld fell to defeat against Bridon Ropes last Saturday.

Gamble appeared to have cancelled out a Jordan Johnson penalty, that put Ropes up 3-2, but referee Shane Brown chalked it off for an alleged foul on the Bridon keeper.

Earlier goals from Ignacio Garcia and Matt Dennis for Bridon and Georgie Lowe and Casey Kilillea for Stansfeld had the game heading for a draw before the late drama.

Stansfeld, who currently operate under the Eltham Palace name in the Southern Counties East Football League, boss Lloyd Bradley said: “We were bitterly disappointed with the outcome of the

game, there is no way we should have lost, although a draw would probably been a fair result.

“The nature of the defeat is hard to take, as our third goal should definitely have stood, the keeper clearly fumbled the ball and there was no question of him being fouled.”

He added: “I do not like to criticise officials as they have a very tough job to do out there, but that was a very poor decision and it cost us a very valuable point, which my team thoroughly deserved for the effort they put in.”

The Stansfeld side who operate in the Kent County Premier Division played out a hard fought 2-2 draw against Punjab United on Saturday.

Michael Zanelli and Sam Collins were on target for Stansfeld.

Cheeseman still unbeaten

BERMONDSEY BOXER Ted Cheeseman is still undefeated as a professional fighter after winning his latest outing last week.

The 21-year-old was in action last Thursday at York Hall, Bethnal Green where he dismantled Chris Jenkinson by stopping him in the fifth round.

That stoppage was the fifth win inside the distance of the ex-Fisher ABC’s fledging career and continues a perfect fight record of six wins from six fights.

Cheeseman fought as a pro for the first time last September following a highly promising amateur career as both a junior and senior fighter.

Striker Harry Ottaway and midfielder Billy Crook got the goals for the north London side as the Pink and Blues drew 2-2 at the weekend.

New Dulwich signings Ibra Sekajja and Quade Taylor, returning for a second stint at Champion Hill, were both in the match day squad but Taylor picked an injury in the warm up that sidelined him for the day.

Once again Hamlet conceded an early goal in a league contest when Ottaway put the home side ahead after only two minutes.

Striker Daniel Carr levelled things up for Hamlet just after the half hour mark and when Ashley Carew netted a second half penalty Dulwich looked like they may bag three points.

But in the final ten minutes Enfield were awarded a spot kick of their own and former Pink and Blues man Crook dispatched the penalty that saw the points shared.

On Tuesday night Hamlet travelled to Lowestoft Town for a Ryman League Premier Division game and they secured a 3-0 win that lifted them to sixth place in the table.

A brace of goals from Nyren Clunis and a late goal from Carr moved the Champion Hill side to the brink of the play off spots.

This Saturday Dulwich are back in action at Champion Hill when old foes Bognor Regis Town come to town. That league fixture gets under way at 3pm.

The Bermondsey club had three boxers up for silverware, and Denzil Ntin-Mensah, Andres Manuel-Lopez and Toniwa Nagbeola came up trumps on the day for the Southwark club.

Manuel-Lopez, nineteen, who boxes in the under 60kg weight category was first up and he secured a third round TKO win in his bout.

Club head coach Steve Hiser said: “He just kept hitting his opponent in the fight and the other lad pulled out with a dodgy shoulder but Andres would have won easily in any case.

“If he carries on like that he could go all the way this year.”

Toniwa “Big Tom” Nagbeola, 23, had a rare experience in the under 91kg weight group as he boxed somebody who was bigger than him.

Hiser said: “Big Tom won a unanimous decision and people said I should be worried about putting him in that bout, but we had no worries.

“For a big fighter Tom is very flexible, the big lads can be quite stiff but Tom isn’t so he can make people miss and come back with his own shots.”

The final victorious Fisher fighter was 21-year old Ntin-Mensah who impressed everybody with a stylish showing in the middleweight final.

Hiser said of his man: “He was as slippery as an eel in there and his opponent could just not hit him at all.

That is what boxing is about.

“It was like watching a matador as he drew in his opponent, made him miss and then countered. It was an impressive showing.”

The trio will be back in action this Sunday when they travel to Harlow for the pre quarter finals of the nationwide tournament

BEN THOMPSON admitted he was “devastated” with the first red card of his senior Millwall career – but he won’t change his abrasive style and he has his manager’s backing to keep playing the same way.

Thompson was sent off for two bookable offences in the 3-2 defeat to Rochdale on September 24, ruling him out of the defeat to Port Vale four days later.

He didn’t reclaim his place in the side immediately, instead coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 loss at Walsall last Saturday, Millwall’s fourth successive league defeat.

Thompson felt his second booking for a foul on Rochdale’s Matthew Lund was harsh, but he has no intention of toning down his physical approach.

“When the referee blew the whistle I didn’t think it was a foul, no matter how many times I watched it again that night,” Thompson said. “I was devastated I got sent off, it was a horrible feeling. I watched it at home ten times and I’m looking at the ball the whole time. Not once did I look at the player or maliciously try to hurt him.

“But with my style of play I’m going to pick up yellow cards or red cards now and then, it’s part and parcel of what I do. I’m not going to pull out of a tackle but I’ll learn from this one.

“I’ve spoken to the manager a number of times about the way I play, what I should do and expect and he said, ‘You’re going to get yellow cards, you’re going to get sent off at some point, just don’t change the way you play’.

“I don’t intend to go out there and get sent off or hurt people. I play on the edge, so occasionally I’m going to mistime one.

“In training I’m a big softy, I don’t go in for tackles. Only on match-days.

“I actually didn’t go to the (Port Vale) game, I was sitting indoors updating my Twitter every few minutes checking on the boys.

“It’s the first time I’ve been sent off and missed a game. It was tough, the boys didn’t get a result and I couldn’t be there helping them out.”

Thompson turned 21 on Monday, but kept celebrations low key with a family meal ahead of Millwall’s fixture with Gillingham on Tuesday.

With his close circle all Millwall fans, he said they have been asking him about the side’s poor form in the league when at this stage they were expected to be challenging at the top end of the table instead of potentially facing being

in the relegation zone by the time they play Northampton on Saturday week.

After last season’s October international break, a nine-game unbeaten run helped propel the club to a successful top-six challenge.

And Thompson promised “there will be no rest” as they try to rediscover the same winning formula over the next ten days.

Thompson said: “We’ve got time to reflect, watch back over games and then practise on the training ground what we need to do.

during the 10-day international break to ensure the current dip doesn’t run on to potentially ruin the season.

Those sides are all above Millwall in the league table. In fact, by the time Millwall travel to Sixfields Stadium, they could be in the relegation zone if results go against them this weekend.

Some ground for optimism is the timing of the break. Given the current run and the mood at The Den, one wonders how damaging a defeat to Charlton would have been this weekend.

After the international break in October last season, Millwall went unbeaten in their next nine fixtures. However, at least part of that was down to being able to recruit George Saville, who added aggression to midfield and gave the side a new spark. That option is not there this season.

Last Saturday, Millwall fell behind for the sixth successive game, and it was a

familiar defensive lapse that allowed Walsall to take the lead. Millwall failed to stop a cross from out wide, and Franck Moussa set up former Millwall striker Simeon Jackson who fired home.

The Lions were level five minutes later, Mahlon Romeo lofting a cross to Fred Onyedinma who headed home.

Before all that, Shaun Williams had almost bettered the goal from halfway he scored against Nottingham Forest in the League Cup, but his audacious 60yard free-kick came back off the crossbar.

It was another cross that led to Walsall’s winner. This time it was Jackson’s effort that was saved by Jordan Archer, and Moussa swept home the rebound.

Millwall had chances to level. Lee Gregory was through one-on-one before Neil Etheridge tipped William’s followup over. And late on Gregory curled an

MILLWALL LOST four games in a row for the first time under Neil Harris to hand the Lions boss the first crisis of his reign.

More worryingly, Millwall won all four of those corresponding fixtures last season – against Southend, Rochdale, Port Vale and Walsall – which perhaps indicates teams have begun to figure Harris’ side out.

On the horizon are tough fixtures against Northampton, Bolton and Fleetwood, and it is going to take a lot of intense work on the training ground

effort from outside the box just wide.

It was Millwall’s sixth game without a win, but they now have some breathing space to try to get their season back on track.

A NUMBER of Millwall’s young players celebrated birthdays this week, but if Neil Harris could pause the clock on anyone it would probably be Steve Morison.

Aiden O’Brien, Ben Thompson and Alfie Pavey have all ticked another year into their early 20s, but it was a vintage performance from Morison on Tuesday night that helped turn the screw on Gillingham and ensure Millwall’s place in the second round of the Checkatrade Trophy with a game to spare.

Before Morison’s half-time introduction, Millwall’s attack had no real focal point and the way they laboured didn’t inspire confidence they would ever threaten Stuart Nelson in the Gills goal.

Lions boss Neil Harris had altered Millwall’s starting formation for the first time this season to give Calum Butcher and Gregg Wylde the freedom to impress in systems they were used to playing last season at Burton and Plymouth.

But while Butcher showed glimpses of his pace and power, Wylde seemed to be shackled rather than released. He was hauled off at the break, with Millwall reverting to 4-4-2.

That gave Lee Gregory the support he looked like he had desperately needed as he toiled away in the first half.

Gregory had been up against three Gillingham centre-backs, and his frustration was evident when he squared up to Ryan Jackson with both players booked.

Gregory would have hoped for more help from Butcher and Ben Thomspon, and from Wylde and Fred Onyedinma in wide areas, but Millwall were never able to keep the ball long enough for that to happen.

That all changed with Morison on the pitch, and his presence lifted others around him, including Thompson, who gave the impression that he hadn’t noticed this competition is probably fourth in Millwall’s list of priorities with a wholly committed secondhalf display.

It also released Gregory to finally roam behind Gillingham’s defence, and one delicious curved pass from Morison from midfield put his strike partner through on goal, only for the linesman’s flag to shoot up.

Morison did have a moment to forget when he swiped at fresh air attempting to connect with Onyedinma’s cross into the box. Thompson, who switched to the left of midfield for the second

period, did connect with a Morison cross as Milllwall upped the pressure, and when the ball bounced up off the turf Butcher could only direct his header wide.

In the 88th minute, with some fans leaving the ground seemingly unaware penalties were looming, Morison sublimely flicked the ball over the head of a Gills defender before finishing low past Nelson.

The 33-year-old striker almost grabbed his eighth goal of the season in injury time, but Nelson blocked his shot from close range, and there was also time for the goalkeeper to deny Thomspon as Millwall finished on a high after operating at such a low ebb for most of the first half.

Gillingham won 3-0 at The Den last December, and when Josh Wright poked them in front in the 17th minute after Rory Donnelly’s shot from Jake Hessenthaler’s corner had fallen to him in the box, it looked like it would be a similarly long night.

Millwall’s side was less experienced than Justin Edinburgh’s. Harris named only four of the players who had started in the 2-1 defeat to Walsall last weekend. Right-back James Brown

was given his senior competitive debut, while Noah Chesmain started his second fixture in the competition.

Chesmain attacked the game aggressively for the first 45 minutes, but was withdrawn at the break on a yellow card for a strong challenge on Chris Herd. Harris somewhat pointedly said afterwards he felt that the young left-back had been left too exposed, and he clearly expected Wylde to have offered him more support.

This is hardly a competition Millwall would spill blood for, but that’s exactly what it took to haul themselves back into the game in the fourth minute of injury time at the end of the first half.

It had taken until the 45th minute for the home side to trouble Nelson, when he had to rush from his goal after Shaun Williams had nodded Tony Craig’s deep free-kick towards Gregory.

Just as it seemed the Lions would go into the half-time break trailing, Brown surged down the right to win a freekick. Williams pinged it into the sixyard box, and when Nelson flapped Onyedinma rose to beat Josh Pask to the touch to head the loose ball home.

Both players required treatment for a clash of heads. Onyedinma came out for the second half bandaged up but Pask didn’t reappear.

There were few real chances of note in the second half as Millwall dominated territory. That was until Morison’s late goal ended a run of six games without a win.

STEVE MORISON acknowledges Millwall are in a “tough patch”, but insists hard work will see them “come out the other side”.

Millwall’s 2-1 defeat to Walsall last Saturday was their fourth in a row in the league and their sixth without a win.

The Lions started the season promisingly, and at the end of August a 3-1 victory at Chesterfield left them fifth in the table after five games.

That was their last win in the league, though, and with the international break Neil Harris’ side will have to wait until October 15 when they play Northampton to stop the current losing streak.

Morison believes they are capable of doing that, and that last May’s experience when they lost the League One play-off final to Barnsley before making a positive start to this season proves they have it within them to bounce back from disappointment.

He said: “It is what it is. You get sticky patches and this is one of them. We haven’t been great but it’s not the end of the world, we’ll survive and work over the international break to prepare for Northampton.

“Obviously people deal with it in their different ways. You try to keep everyone in good spirit but there’s not much you can do, you can’t dwell on it.

“We’ve had to deal with disappointment before at Wembley, but we came back and had a really good August. That’s maybe making this month worse because everyone thought we were going to walk the league after

August. We’ve had a few bad results and suddenly it’s like the world’s going to end.

“We need to keep working hard, stick together and work as a group, which is what we do every day.

“We’ve been working hard in games but haven’t been clinical enough up front and at the back it’s been too easy to concede.

“That’s there for everybody to see.

Obviously people sit there and talk a lot of rubbish about tactics, just wanting to find excuses. At the end of the day it’s the same group of players that played in August and were winning games. People have short memories.

“While we’re losing a few games it’s easy for people to jump on that bandwagon and they’re going to keep banging on about it. It served us alright for the last eighteen months. Just because we’ve lost a couple of games suddenly everything has to change, it’s amazing.

“It’s a tough patch but we’ll work hard to get through it and come out the other side.”

Millwall’s style of play has come in for serious criticism for the first time in Harris’ eighteen-month reign as they have dropped to nineteenth place in the League One table. But Morison thinks it is too simplistic an assessment.

Morison said: “People keep going on about the tactics, and playing ‘hoof-ball’ or long ball or whatever crap they talk about. But at the end of the day it’s not that. We play a game where we stay in our shape, we get the ball into good areas, we work on the second ball and it’s no different to what we did last year, so I don’t know why everyone is going on about it. It’s just an excuse because we’ve lost a few games.

“We do pass the ball, we play in the right areas. We don’t pass out from the back because, I’ll tell you what, our fans

“So how they can sit there and say we should change the way we play? “Maybe we play a more direct style of play than what some teams play in this league, but it’s all about getting the ball in those areas and then we do go play

“The last thing you want to do is give the ball away in the wrong areas so that’s why we do what we do. It’s just an excuse, it’s just something for people to moan about. When we win a game people seem to forget how we’ve won it.

We’ll win games exactly the same way we’ve been playing.”

Millwall could be in the relegation zone before they face promoted Northampton, but Morison promised the “tide will turn” as he kept his perspective.

“In life you go through bad times and some people have a lot worse things going on than losing a few games of football,” Morison said. “If you’re going to rip up the rule book and start again every time you lose a few games you’re never going to get anywhere.

“We’ll stick to what we know, stick together as a team and keep fighting.

“Our performance wasn’t that bad on Saturday. They had two shots on goal and scored two goals. We had numerous opportunities and we didn’t put them away.

“But the tide will turn and we’ll get it right. And when we do I’m sure people will be saying how great we are and we’re going to win the league again.

“I can tell the boys: ‘Don’t get too high, don’t get too low. Stay in the middle somewhere and you won’t go far wrong.’

“We are working on it. When the gaffer says we’ve had a really good week at training, we’re working on it every day. It’s been boring playing up front the last few weeks in training because all we’ve done is defensive work.

“We’ve been working hard as a unit, but it’s just not happening at the minute for whatever reason. If we could put our finger on it exactly, then we’d put it right.

“We’ll be alright, things will change.

Teams are not going to have two shots and score two goals every game. If we get the same chances again we’ll put them away. “There’s not an exact science to it, we’ll just keep working hard as a group and defend from the front.”

MILLWALL’S POOR run has received plenty of criticism on social media – but Morison says it doesn’t bother him.

A number of Millwall players have Twitter accounts, but Morison steers clear of online communication platforms.

And he urged others to do the same if they don’t want to read negative comments about themselves.

He said: “I’m not on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, whatever it is. I don’t read anything. I hear it all second hand from other people.

“It’s easy to write something on Twitter or put something on Facebook. People are frustrated and they write things and say things.

They need to realise that sometimes what they say is not very helpful.

“But that’s the way people choose to express themselves so if you don’t like it don’t go on social media. It’s pretty simple maths.”

King made his third senior competitive start in a Lions shirt against Gillingham in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday night.

The 21-year-old had had a relatively quiet evening, apart from Josh Wright’s opening goal which he could do little about, until the last moments of the game with Millwall protecting a 2-1 lead.

With the threat of penalties if Gillingham found an equaliser, King produced a crucial late block when he narrowed the

angle to deny Jake Hessenthaler and help earn Millwall a place in the competition’s last 32.

And King will continue using the unique method to keep his mind on the job during periods of games when he isn’t overly busy.

King explained: “It was a quiet game for me in terms of dealing with shots or crosses, etc.

“Obviously it’s nice to be able to help the team for all they do in front of me for the 90 minutes. That’s why I don’t have a lot to do, because they’re defending so well in front of me. Anything I can do to add to the team in the last moments is a bonus.

“There are a few different techniques that Kevin Pressman has passed down

to me, techniques he used when it was a quiet game, and David Forde before he moved on to Portsmouth as well.

“One is keeping myself in the game by talking (to team-mates). I also talk to myself now and again to keep myself focussed and ready to make the vital save at the end.

“I might sing or something like that and it keeps me ticking over. I’m always trying to predict what might happen and it keeps me really alert and on my toes.

“It might be like a chant or something like that and I’ll sing along with it and it keeps me focussed and in tune with the game.

“Different things work for different people and I’ve found that’s worked so far for me in my career and I’ll continue using it until it doesn’t.”

NEIL HARRIS isn’t bothered whether Millwall top their EFL Trophy group as he prioritises improving league form.

Millwall will go into their last Group H game against Luton on November 8 knowing a win – either after 90 minutes or a penalty shootout – secures them top spot and a home draw in the southern section against a side that finishes

in one of the second places.

Goals from Fred Onyedinma and Steve Morison at The Den on Tuesday night were enough to end a six-game winless streak after Josh Wright had shot Gillingham in front.

Harris named six players aged 21 or under in his starting XI, and he will continue with that policy in this competition.

Millwall have a ten-day break to prepare for their next League One clash, against Northampton, and

Harris insisted that fixture is the priority as the Lions try to arrest their slide down the table.

“When we go into the next game it’ll be the same again,” Harris said. “It’ll be a different side to the one that plays in the league and it’ll be a side that has young players in it to get the opportunity to play.

“Top spot, second spot, I’m not really fussed in this competition, to be honest. (Tuesday night) hopefully serves us a real purpose in terms of building momentum.

“We’ve got a lot of games to think about between now and Luton.

“We used the international breaks really well last year. We got good a good combination between giving a little bit of time to the players to recharge the batteries and refocus, and we also used the sessions really wisely to focus on the weak areas, consolidate on areas we were improving on and put it all together to come out firing.

“We have to do the same this time, refocus the minds after a

busy schedule with not good results. Sometimes you just need a break.

“We’ve now got a lot of time to put on sessions for the players, just to remind ourselves about key areas of the park, individually and collectively, to get back into good habits.

“Sometimes with the SaturdayTuesday schedule it’s difficult to do that. You’ve only got little periods of time to plan and set up sessions to work on those areas.”
