Last night in my dreams I was brought to a place where I was shown the earth and told about the heavy energy we elected to come into. We elected to come here not to join in the energy, but to do our best to uplift it. The funny thing is once you are here the energy is so heavy it is easy to become part of it.

The Health Benefits of Oil Pulling What does oil pulling do?

Multiple scientific studies show the efficacy of oil pulling therapy. One study [1] shows that oil pulling with sesame oil can boost overall oral health. Specifically, using sesame oil as an oral health agent helps to reduce the amount of S. mutans (germ) count in both teeth plaque and mouth saliva. Scientists believe that the lipids in the oil both pull out bacteria, as well as stop bacterial from sticking to the walls of the oral cavity.

Oil pulling is an ancient Ayurvedic remedy for oral health and detoxification. It involves the use of pure oils as agents for pulling harmful bacteria, fungus, and other organisms out of the mouth, teeth, gums and even throat.

The most effective oil pulling is done by placing around a tablespoon of cold pressed organic sesame oil into the mouth and swishing the oil around the mouth for approximately 10-15 minutes and then spitting it out.

Other oils such as extra virgin cold pressedcoconut, sunflower and olive oil have been used, although sesame oil is considered one of the best oils for this practice. I recommend alternating oils every couple of days to get the full benefit. Putting high quality organic oils into the mouth has a multi-effect outcome.

It is apparent to me that most Twitter users using the network for business don’t have a clue what they are doing. It is sad to see how many Twitter feeds that simply Tweet out content for the sake of it and miss out on the opportunity this tool provides. I suppose it has to be expected, many users come from a traditional marketing background and in the old days communication was a one way street.

Twitter is fantastic for making connections, building relationships and nurturing community. When using the tool for marketing and business development you are wasting your time if all you are doing is posting links to content (especially if that content isn’t even yours).

75% of Tweets go unnoticed and fewer than 5% get retweeted. If this resonates then perhaps you should get off Twitter and start doing something more productive.

Or, you could consider the following list of tips to make better use of Twitter for business development.

Listen and Respond If someone retweets one of your posts, have the decency to thank them or at least acknowledge the Tweet. Your community can 23

become a powerful advocate for you and a great way to grow your following but only if you stroke it and respect it. If someone retweets your content regularly and you don’t even notice it shows how little you care and sends a negative message and they will soon stop, or worse start dissing you. 10 Tips to Marketing Success

Create Your Follow Policy Don’t waste time dithering about whether to Follow someone or not. Decide on your Follow Policy from the outset and don’t stray from that – it’ll save you lots of valuable time.

2. Got a great idea or tip to share with people? Do so.

Measure, Measure, Measure You can’t manage what you can’t measure. Set goals for your Twitter presence in terms of follows counts, interactions and traffic to your website and make sure you have the tools in place to help you measure your success. That way you will know whether your time is well spent.

Get with the Program Too many businesses get on Twitter without having a clue how to use it properly and then have the audacity to turn around and say that Twitter doesn’t work. Reality check: it isn’t Twitter that doesn’t work, it’s they way you are using it.

6. Don’t just post a link with no description – tell people a little about it so that they can decide to click through or not. People avoid clicking on links as they seem spammy.

7. Make your P.S. in email newsletters short and sweet. I saw one lately that was almost as long as the email itself!

8. Use short links – especially on Twitter – as this encourages people to share and gives them the space to do so.

9. Followers are more likely to click like on photos and images (especially on Facebook) so post images often and use an app like Over to enhance images with text.

10. Ask for comments and get people to share. There are lots of ways to do this and what works best will depend on your audience. When people do comment, always respond.

One of my favorite bands is Switchfoot and their song “Adding to the Noise” is the inspiration for this article.

When I started it four years ago, there were roughly 200,000 million blogs and I couldn’t imagine why the world would need another one. I even wrote a post “The Last Thing We Need Is Another Blog.” Ultimately this question lead me to the debate between quantity versus quality. A recent Michael Stelzner podcast interview featured Jeff Goins, a successful blogger and author who had several blog failures when he was chasing subscribers (quantity focus) until he started a passion blog (quality focus) that now has over 200,000 subscribers.

Today Technorati indexes over 1.3 billion blogs and the focus on quality content has become more important than ever. For marketers this noise has been creeping up in another social landscape – Facebook. In August of 2013 Facebook revealed that “every time someone visits News Feed there are on average 1,500 potential stories … most people don’t have time to see them all.” By December 2013 Ad Age reported “Facebook Admits

Organic Reach Is Falling Short, Urges Marketers to Buy Ads.” The bottom line is that Facebook has changed its algorithm, formerly called Edgerank, and content from business Pages has seen a dropoff in organic reach. In response, Facebook is urging paid distribution for brands to get back into their fan’s News Feeds. Since the tweak some brands have reported as much as a 40% decrease in organic reach.

In the end, business may have to increase their Facebook spending to maintain or expand reach, but there could be another option. Switchfoot sings, “What’s it going to take to slow us down … If we’re adding to the noise turn off this song.” Perhaps we need another content revolution. If you provide content people want to engage with, not turn off, you will break through the noise. Brands could up their content game to emerge organically from the noise in users’ News Feeds.

Quantum Entanglement and the Quantum Mind QUANTUM MECHANICS

Perhaps we are already deeply and intimately interconnected.

In Brain Wars (2012) Mario Beauregard, a professor in the Neuroscience Research Centre at the University of Montreal, explores the phenomena of out of body experiences, near death experiences, psi (various psychic phenomena), telepathy, and other paranormal events.

His conclusion is that the scientific perspectives that view the mind as a product of the brain and the mind as separate and distinct from the universe are deeply flawed. His thinking on this leads us into quantum mechanics.

Perhaps most compelling or intriguing aspect of quantum mechanics, from the perspective of post-literacy, is the concept of quantum entanglement: the idea that

particles are twinned and change states (spins) relative to each other regardless of their distance from each other (adjacent or light years apart).

Hence they are “entangled” or responsive to each other.

Einstein famously referred to this as “spooky action at a distance.”

Does quantum mechanics explain consciousness?

Extrapolating from this, is there a quantum mind and can it be means for a profoundly new way of understanding and acting upon the universe? The ground breaking theory of Roger Penrose and Stuart Hameroff on the nature of microtubles (a concept known as Orchestrated Objective Reduction) is hotly contested. Some, like Victor Stenger, believe all this belongs to the fantasy realm of “unicorns and dragons.” Others, like Beauregard, are willing to venture into new terrain and suggest new possibilities, beyond scientific materialism, that would fundamentally transform our understanding of our position in the universe and the capabilities we have.

Neil Turok, Director of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics and a colleague of Stephen Hawking, agrees with Beauregard: “The Internet is only a harbinger. Quantum technologies may change entirely the way in which we process information. In time, they many do much more, allowing us to gain a heighted awareness of reality and of the ways the physical world works. As the depth of our knowledge grow, our representation of the universe will achieve much higher fidelity. Our new knowledge will enable technologies that will vastly supercede current limits. They may change our very nature and bring us closer to realizing the full potential of our existence.”

Using a deliberate contradiction, Turok observes that “quantum physical teaches us that, in a very real sense, we all live in an imaginary reality.” It is a “quantum future” that may offer insights into a post-literate world.

Quantum Science Inward with Outward It is said in Quantum Connectivity or Quantum Entanglement that physical phenomenon occur when pairs (or groups such as the human body) of particles are generated or interact in ways such that the quantum state of each member must subsequently be described relative to the other. These last weeks I have understood and experienced exactly how this works. The peace it brings is exciting and immeasurable.

The best way perhaps to understand Quantum Entanglement is to explain light (or photons) and how light operates. The utter bedazzlement happens when things or particles are observed. In other words, the state of a photon is one way when observed, and another when unobserved; mere observation changes the state of particles – and get this – no matter their distance apart. Albert Einstein was so intrigued by this he called it “spooky action at a distance.” In the labs of Quantum physicists, this is what takes place: “When observed, Photon A takes on an up-spin state. Entangled Photon B, though now far away, takes up a state relative to that of Photon A (in this case a down-spin state). The transfer of state between Photon A and Photon B takes place at a speed of at least 10,000 times the speed of light, possibly even instantaneously, regardless of distance.”

This interaction doesn’t just happen between photons. It happens between bodies or groups of electromagnetic particles, including living intelligent systems. Think about it. As a crude example but nonetheless true, humans behave differently when they are being observed versus when they are 32

not. The changed behavior still takes place when no verbal interaction exists. The interaction, or entanglement, is still happening because they are connected by observation made possible by invisible subatomic particles. This state of interaction is no different than the state between photons. The common denominators are the electromagnetic particles that make up the entities. What I find interesting is that when the interacting photons entangle, they take on a state of polarization, or opposite states. What is mind-blowing is that the distance between the bodies is irrelevant.

My attempts to join quantum mechanics with classical mechanics, such as psychology, philosophy, or biology, I’m sure would make the experts of both fields chuckle. Nevertheless, what I understand in these current quantum theories is the unlimited potential of information being passed, realized or unrealized, and irrelevant to perception or time. It is a question of observation; the state of being highly aware. And if I am acutely aware of the infinite systems surrounding me, intelligent purposeful systems, then the more I understand my place. And as such, I am more realized and less unrealized.

Many weeks ago, before my move back to the Dallas area, I had a red-shouldered hawk perch itself on a branch just yards from me. I know it knew I was near

because it looked straight at me, almost starring, several times. For at least twominutes it moved its head scanning, then always back to me. If you know about redshouldered hawks, they are solitary birds and in the wild keep their safe distance from humans. For some reason this hawk was not bothered by my proximity. I found its behavior a little extraordinary but concluded the encounter as randomly weird and moved on. A few days later the same thing happened and I couldn’t discount its second visit as random chance; not within the mechanics of quantum entanglement. Yes, I know; a big leap perhaps. But stay with me a minute.

I have a deep fondness and admiration for indigenous people and their connection to nature and Earth. Though they might appear as “uncivilized” by Western standards, they have an understanding of their environment that goes much deeper than our vocabulary and descriptions. Native American culture is inextricably connected with natural systems, Earth-systems, and their culture places high regard and meaning for hawk visits. For example, a hawk brings or confirms heightened vision, power, energy, and a rebirth. It also brings or confirms heightened strategy, intensity, attention, protection, teamwork, intelligence, focus, and intuition. I have noticed an increase in all of these traits over the last two months, 33

many of them confirmed by coworkers and friends without my solicitations.

One website explaining hawk visits and totems says the following, which I found further confirms what has happened in my life these last few months. Bear with me please: “Hawk totems are extraordinarily effective at protection.

They are kind of like raptor-angels. They keep watch over those who hold an affinity for them (and vice versa). They tend to arrange energy in such a way so that danger or bad choices are either made known to their people, or are avoided altogether. If the hawk is your totem, you are extremely perceptive. You see things others miss. Your vision goes beyond the physical too – you have a knack for seeing into the souls of people you deal with. You might call it a gift of intuition. You just have a sense, or an ‘aerial view’ into what is going on in the hearts of people. This is a great trait, but the downside to hawk people with this gift is that you tend to be way too forthcoming with your observations.

Being naturally direct and candid personality types, hawkpeople will make pointed statements about very sensitive issues that they’ve picked up by their powers of perception.

Word of advice: Be delicate and diplomatic with your deductions.

Perhaps it is their unyielding honesty that makes hawkpeople admirable partners. People who have hawk as their totem make outstanding mates, friends, co-workers, lovers, sister, brothers etc. They are loyal, honest and direct.

Typically, you always know where you stand with a hawkperson, and others find this refreshing in a world of mindgamers. Hawk-partners are also very protective, and will defend their compatriots to a fierce degree.

Those with the hawk as their totem are also visionaries.

They look above the problem (another ‘aerial view’), for solutions. They are expert problem solvers because they aren’t part of the problem – they aren’t stuck in the issue.

Rather, they rise above it, and in an elevated state they are able to see answers most might overlook.”

Now many would argue that it is simply a hawk’s instinct to fly and perch in certain ways. Many would argue there are logical environmental or predatory reasons the hawk perched in that particular spot. I would not disagree one 34

bit. There is a waterfall and pond just under the two different branches it sat on. The habitat of Red-shouldered hawks is indeed forests and streams where their food can be found. Our pond has several goldfish and one or two leopard frogs. What naysayers can’t explain away is their known behavior around humans: solitude. In the wild they do not seek out the company of humans! Yet my red-shouldered hawk did just that, for long moments, and did so on two separate occasions within days. I don’t believe I can ignore that. And with an adequate understanding of the interaction between quantum atomic systems and macro-systems (themselves made up of quantum systems) demands at least examining the encounters, not ignoring them.

This I know: my powers of intuition and observation are definitely heightened and I am doing no illegal drugs. This has been evidenced in several life-decisions and reactions, or interactions with people over these last couple of months. What is amazing for me is to see and understand how it all operates and coexists. What is more astonishing is watching it all work without words. The exchange of information takes place not only on obvious levels such as verbal communication, but just as much on subatomic levels. One only needs to become more observant, more aware of the exchange method, if you will. In fact, I would wager that much much more information is available and exchanged than the obvious five senses. Quantum Entanglement is increasingly showing this phenomenon to exist. We crudely call it intuition.

I wonder if we are to eventually know that the inward and the outward are never really separated, ever, by any distance?

Greetings, during the past 3 months of this New Year you have focused on what must be done within, and tried to find more balance within and in the outer aspects of your world. Healing has been taking place, and still is. Religion often helps a lost soul find love of self. I won’t dismiss that; for many, that is their hope and salvation, but this is my take on self-love. To love yourself you have to learn from the inside, and only when you do that, will you be able to love others outside yourself.

Oscar Hammerstein, the brilliant lyricist who wrote unforgettable love songs with Richard Rogers, also wrote the words to You’ve Got to Be Carefully Taught, as a deliberate protest against racial injustice. For those unfamiliar with the song, it is from Rogers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific.

Hammerstein argued that parents often teach their children to hate others because of skin color or ethnicity.

The parent has to be firm, to be kind, but also help their child see their self-worth through encouragement and mentoring. If the parents’ efforts aren’t working, seeking professional assistance would also help. Numerous examples exist where parents have done what they could to help their child discover inner strength and love; however, the child and then later the adult couldn’t believe they had value. Getting the child the help he or she needs as early as possible will only spare the entire family pain and tumult. Any mental health expert would agree that loving yourself can only come from inside the child’s heart and mind.

I will admit, without hesitation, that I’m not a parent. Don’t want to be. That said, I like children and have friends who are parents. As an objective observer, I can emphatically say that the children who suffer the most are those whose parents refuse to set boundaries or enable dependence. I’ve heard the same rationale against this behavior from 54

parents around the world (literally, when I traveled overseas). That enablement, like other bad habits, can be passed down from generation to generation. There are always exceptions, of course.

Some children find self-love without parental guidance or interference. Often a parent or both aren’t present in a child’s life, or are working to make ends meet. For this reason mentoring programs remain popular.

Moving on to individual adults, many are desperate for acclamation. They wear an invisible label reading: “Tell me I’m wonderful.” They don’t consciously recognize they lack self-worth, however, obvious examples of these persons include artists or actors, some of whom willingly admit they chose their profession because of their neuroses or insecurities. What about the rest of the adult populous? Based on continuing blockbuster sales of self-help books, skyrocketing, hits on an unlimited number of websites and viewers of Dr. Phil, there isn’t a shortage of people desperate for answers.

Yet all the questions often have one answer: love yourself and your world will expand, will bring unforeseen rewards. That search takes work; it’s hard work.

It’s easy to be critical, to dissect, to react negatively, to insult, to chastise, to humiliate or be a bully. There isn’t a profession that I’ve observed, and I’ve either participated in or had exposure to multiple fields, where the proverbial saying, Pride cometh before the fall, (The Bible) didn’t apply. The worst offenders often strut around with a façade of confidence and dismiss anyone who doesn’t play their game. Then, these power wranglers would disappear, sometimes long after they should have gone, when the officiating bodies would realize they’d been fooled. Why the delay? Why would it take so long for the Toronto city officials, for example, to see their mayor is a fool? In my opinion, they were duped by a man who had seemed to be complete, but secretly wasn’t: he didn’t love himself. If he did, he would never have resorted to escaping by using drugs.

From the workplace and politics, and on to romantic relationships. Is it possible to love another human being if you don’t love yourself? Of course! Looking for love often involves searching for a partner who will love you as much as you love them, if not more. The less we love ourselves, the more love we need from our partners. In contrast, the less we love ourselves the less we are able to give our partners. More so, making difficult decisions as to whether a person should stay with their partner often revolves around self-love.

The example I present involves a woman, I’ll call her Ms. Self-Deluded. She stayed with her partner, a man for those who care, for a decade hoping he would marry her. When she finally saw how much she had been hurting herself by staying with a man who wouldn’t commit, she walked away and didn’t regret her decision. Then there are those who learn quickly that their partners aren’t right for them. They have the confidence and bravery to live alone rather than subject themselves or compromise too much to be in a relationship where they see no future.

Years ago I had a colleague who gave me confusing advice: “Don’t ever settle.” I’d asked her to explain what she meant, but she wouldn’t and returned to her room. Yes, she had personal challenges, i.e. she loved teaching, and loathed socializing. I never got around to getting an answer, for she eluded me the rest of the year. “Don’t ever settle.”

Did she mean my career? Love life? Both were intertwined at the time. In retrospect, I wouldn’t say that teacher hadn’t been a model of self-love. However, her advice finally rang true on both counts job and romance. I did discover a career that I love, decades

later after holding on too long to conventional wisdom.

When I realized my passion, writing, life turned around 180°, and if my career continues to escalate, or when my chosen profession becomes financially sound—it’s already fulfilling—I will inch closer to my expectations.

I’m still weighing the pros and cons of my romantic future. You see, I’m not the ideal of self-love either and have some physical limitations, still I’m confident I have a lot to offer. More importantly, I know I can survive and savor life with or without a man, for I’ve done so for some time. I also know I have the capacity to give too much without expecting half that effort in return. Will continue working on closing that gap.

As for reaching the apex, wholehearted self-love, like nirvana, that goal may never be achievable. Personally, like many, I have issues to overcome, neuroses which show outwardly. Inwardly I have found selfworth, self-respect and am inching closer to true love, that is of myself.

April has proven to be an amazing month we just had a Blood Moon that the Fairies, and Angels illustrated to address your desires. I love to engage with the moon cycle. This is how the Universe connects with us in such extravagant ways, yet sometimes we are too blind to notice. April is a month of New-ness. Those of us actively working on our projects are starting to see the growth of our blooms maybe a tiny sprout, but we nevertheless are seeing the signs. If you have let the energies of February and March take your better half then you have and are probably engaging in chaos and tension, but this is what you can do to change this situation.

Tone down, dear ones; you are fragile at this moment because you are not allowing the flow of humanity. As April is in the middle the Fairies say to buckle up and MOVE!!! MOVE your homes, your careers; it’s time for MAJOR shifts to take place. If the setting is not working then MOVE the DESK, the furniture, your home, your job, your friends. GET OUTSIDE AND DANCE. When I am within my natural flow of spirituality I dance with the elementals. Have you ever danced with the fairies?

It is one of the most magical creations and energies you can ever feel. Get outside; put on some moving light music that will enhance the energies of FLOW, and simply move your body to 61

the rhythms of the song. Ask the fairies to join you; they will for the Fairies LOVE to dance.

This upcoming month I will be doing some Fairy Movement Videos; you are more than welcome to Move along with me and the elementals. The fairies explain that MOVING is such a strong energy because when things seem to stand still, by moving you allow new things to occur. Blocks shift, and the energy simply FLOWS. The next three months is about allowing the FLOW.

Now many of us are doing major work. I am working on revising my E-book, and I am working with the Fairies on a New Book of Fairy created Spells. To make all of this happen I need to take guided action plans. You are encouraged to do your own research. What is it you are trying to achieve? Ask the Universe the questions.

By asking the universe WILL respond. So ask the Fairies; say and do some research on what you are starting or growing from. In this month of April connect outdoors. Sit in quiet time; allow the inner you to speak. Listen to nature. She always has something to say, but you must stop to speak to her. What are you waiting for? Do this today!

May is going to be fun month. The fairies say GET outside and get some exercise; take your daughters, your nieces, the little girls that surround your life and enjoy your fun spirited, inner youthful self we like and get lost along our paths. It is extremely important that in May you are exercising, and this is not about going to the gym; this is about you doing the exercise you love, dancing, yoga, meditation, walking, jogging and especially exercises you are doing outdoors.

As you exercise your strength will be enhanced, you become stronger and less emotionally stressed and it is easier for you to take on the challenges presented by the Universe in order to

push you on your path. By June you will have a whole lot of work, BUT you will love it; you will be happy.

By the middle of May you are relaxing… take the holiday you have been putting out or back, go to retreats, or bed and breakfast, do small cruises get out and about with your family and spouses. It is time for simple retreats. Holiday time. You need it; you deserve it. This is your perfect time to move forward. The Fairies say “WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?” This is it. There is no better time for you to be and do what you want.

NOW!!!!! Enjoy this time, and as you sit by the pool, by the ocean, in those cabins you will receive messages from your fairies. Write them down because every time you read them you get new messages.

Closing May is about you being in a whole new Life. You have given birth to your dreams, and everything is new. You are in a different setting, new homes, new jobs, all new and loving it! New marriages, relationships. Embrace the new that is coming as this is part of your divine path. Spring is the time your desires fully manifest, then blooms, and you can see your visualizations right in front of your life.

Those of you whom had worked hard, those that did a lot of releasing at the closing of 2013, your desires are being fully manifested. All that you have asked for is coming true. For those of you who are now being your authentic self, who are now releasing, your manifestations will come in the winter months at the closing of 2014. The Fairies say “Worry not about tomorrow; release yesterday, and live today. As you start to stop and smell the roses act upon the things you love in your life; your dreams are then sent into the Divine’s unconditional energy and released right back into your life. Therefore you create your future by acknowledging and living your “NOW”.

I recalled a time when I wondered how many decades I would live. Today, I wonder how many days, hours and minutes as I choose to embrace them all as "gold made pure."

The realization of this took many years, never conscious that I was learning, never seeing what simply lay before my eyes. Writing Voices of the Heart, my memoir, was part of a healing process, and a turning point in my understanding and acceptance of who I am as a person. I wrote it as a celebration of discovery, never knowing that I was writing something that would tenderly touch others, and become a source of healing for them as well.

Anyone who has experienced loss or pain, and reads Voices of the Heart, walks with me in my words, and discovers the power of unconditional love.

Isn't it true, we are in this life together? It could not be any different. All the elements of life allow for unconditional love to grow. That is the alchemy of love. The birth of a life well lived begins when trusting love is at our core.

This love is the pure gold, the original alchemy, and what is the essence of our creation. It took me some time to give myself permission to live in my truth. It was not difficult to understand where I came from. It was challenging to let that truth arise in me deeply.

To live in my unique and purposeful truth I needed to embrace my life, not resist it.

For me the window was looking in the eyes of my granddaughters. You'll look to that which inspires you. We'll end up understanding we are loved, and we are love.

Paw your Heart Out Shamshai the Siamese How Animal Communication & Animal Healing work to heal trauma with Sue Walsh Animal communication is very much interlinked with healing and vice versa. If a client requests a communication with their pet I usually follow it up with a healing treatment, as these are so vitally beneficial to the pet. Often we will find that the communication which led to the healing was for a reason – to uncover a deeper issue. In this instance I will then carry out a course of healing treatments for the animal.

Below is a case study about a gorgeous Siamese called Shamshai and her carer Nolene, which shows us the positive change that can occur in an animal due to the benefits of animal communication and animal healing.

Nolene asked me to carry out a communication with Shamshai because she was very nervous in the house and, although she had been with the family for some time, she wasn’t settling very easily. During the communication Shamshai showed me that she had been chased around the house (at her previous home) by the 7 year old son who thought it was very funny to see how fast she ran. Now that we knew what was causing Shamshai’s anxiety, I suggested a series of healing treatments to clear the trauma.

In the write-up below I documented what occurred during each healing treatment. It was fascinating (and quite emotional) to see the transition in her from anxiety ridden to relaxed and serene!

Treatm ent 1 Shamshai took to healing like a duck to water.

Healing as a modality suits her perfectly because she just loves to be close to Nolene, and she loves being touched. She clearly needed the healing because as soon as the energy began to flow she fell into a very deep sleep. She did not even twitch, and this indicated to me that her body was absorbing the energy and almost not willing to give any of it away. I noted that her solar plexus chakra drew a lot of energy, and this felt fitting because it reflected her nervous energy and disposition.

I stopped giving her healing after 30 minutes, and this was not because she moved off; it seemed she would take healing as long as I was prepared to give it to her!

Treatm ent 2 As soon as I called Shamshai over to offer her healing, her ears perked up, she quickly came over to me and settled next to me. I worked on each of her chakras for 5 minutes so that I was certain that they were all balanced. My hands grew very warm at her base chakra especially; this indicated to me her need for security and grounding. Her heart chakra also took a lot of energy which was not surprising at all as she is very sensitive and seems to take things ‘to heart’.

Her body twitched a number of times which I was very pleased with as this confirmed to me that she was ‘releasing’ emotional energy that was no 71

longer serving her, and that the healing energy was cleansing her energy system.

Treatm ent 3 I could definitely sense a change in Shamshai’s demeanour following each healing treatment, and the change in her character had been amazing! Nolene had commented on it and so had visitors. Shamshai had slowly but surely become a little bit more relaxed with each treatment, and this treatment was no different.

Her chakras felt extremely well balanced, and, to be honest, it seemed that she was only taking healing because she loved it and enjoyed the wonderful relaxation. She yawned a number of times which indicated an emotional release, and after 20 minutes she jumped up and went off to sun herself in the garden.

I hope that this case study has given you an idea of how effective animal communication can be in resolving trauma and behavioural issues in animals. Animal communication is wonderful because it gives your pet an opportunity to express their side of the story and thereby receive the healing that they may need in order to be happy and balanced once more.

Treatm ent 4 By now Shamshai seemed very used to the idea of healing, and quite liked it!

She settled down quickly, and had developed a habit of closing her third eyelid so I could see how much she was enjoying the healing. She was communicating with me throughout the healing, and sharing with me how nice it felt and how far she felt she had come. She exuded a general sense of security and confidence which she hadn’t seemed capable of when I had first given her healing.

Conclusion: Nolene’s feedback following the healing sessions was that Shamshai seemed to be a lot more confident generally and much more self-assured.

She felt strongly that the healing made a positive difference to Shamshai’s behaviour and that it was instrumental in the development of her selfassurance. Nolene felt that without the healing treatments, Shamshai would have been further behind in her process of settling. She is now able to pass Shamshai in the stairs without her

How do you categorize The Secret of Enduring Love? How does a novel involving yoga jive with the genre of romance?

The ancient tales of yoga come out of a tradition where devotion to God is paramount. When I say ‘devotion to God,’ I mean one-pointed full-blown unadulterated gushing love for the divine. Everything else is subordinate. Even as the greatest villains in these majestic epics are misappropriating power to conquer love ... even these protagonists ... When they must face their destiny, it is at the hands of God incarnated as a human, and their spirit is redeemed and returned to God. The Secret of Enduring Love fits into this tradition of romantic devotional stories where love for God and the beloved merge together. While the genre ‘yoga romance’ is new to most western yogis, these stories express the heart of yoga for eastern yogis.

The Secret of Enduring Love Excerpt from Ch. 15 Lotus Garland, Anyone?

The princess strode down the first line with eyes for one man but trying not to make it too obvious. These exhausted men looked much more like a battery of boys desperate to be caressed by their mothers than the famous kings and warriors feared throughout the world. Approaching the corner at the end of the first line she finally realized the power of being a woman. So this was what her mother had been talking about all these years.

All day these men had wielded swords, battleaxes and maces to prove their worth. But in the decisive moment where her power trumped all these men combined, the only weapon the princess carried was a string of white flowers.

As she stared down the parade of faces along second line, the princess felt an unbearable burden in having to choose just one and disappoint so many others. Damayanti was dumbfounded that her mother could have wasted her entire married life being obsessed with a return to this crossroad. She could see no beauty here. Nor did she feel love. This power fed off the desperation that these men concealed in their hearts. It was cold and cruel.

Damayanti wished she could discard this power. Then she thought of what Chandri said about girls and boys everywhere looking to the princess and this swayamvara for guidance in the ways of love. So she did just that. The princess discarded the illusion that she held any power over these men. They had chosen their journey. And she was choosing hers.

In front of the next man in the line Damayanti stopped and turned to face him. With her winningest smile she extended the garland opening her palms in the direction of the man’s heart while silently reciting the mantra. Then she turned to the next man in the line and did it again. She was not going to rush through this ordeal. From the royal box the princess had descended the crystal stairway with the aim of loving one man only to discover that in order to do so she must love each and every one of them. These were the teachings Great Swan had instilled in her disciple. The men standing along the second line were gawking at the princess perplexed by her sudden change of actions. So too were the other men on the field. As was Damayanti’s mother. And the spectators scattered across India far and wide.

From the Vidabhar throne Bhima arose and extended his open palms just as his daughter was doing. In unison the entire 76

amphitheater of spectators including the gods and goddesses stood up and opened their palms. This swayamvara had been billed as a celebration of enduring love. Every morning and evening of practice had prepared the princess to discern which way she would walk in this crossroad moment of her life.

Now Damayanti was proving to be a princess who led by the example of following her own inner guidance.

Just what these men would do with this love was anyone’s guess. This was not Damayanti’s concern. Or Bhima’s. Or the million others who stood with open palms.

Each man would decide how to contain or dissipate the mantle of energy behind the love. And how to let the love awaken their capacity to observe the crossroad for themselves.

At the beginning of the third line of men Damayanti’s heart jumped. There standing in front of her was Nala. Stumbling to make sense of what she was seeing, the princess almost dropped the garland. A hush passed through the crowd that stretched across a continent. Here was the moment everyone had been waiting years to witness. Was the princess about to hoist her lotus garland? Or drop it to the earth?

Damayanti turned to Great Swan. But her guru’s eyes were closed in meditation. Bhima and Bhavani were waving for her to do it. Put the garland around the neck of the man you love. But where there should have been Nala, Damayanti seemed lost in a fog because there wasn’t just one Nala. There were five Nalas each gazing with the same adoring expression on his face. No one else appeared to notice the oddity of five identical princes of Nishada. What illusion was happening here?

Was it the orchid from Maya’s garden playing tricks on her? She yanked the flower from her hair and crushed the fragile enchanted petals into the earth. But nothing changed.

What does the original Vedic tale of Damayanti and Nala have to do with yoga? And awakening the Divine Feminine?

In mythic tales the female characters are typically reduced to the role of props around which the male characters discover themselves and become the heroes. Personally I feel we are living in a time when awakening the divine feminine will be the single most important factor in the survival of our species. Our society has tilted too far in the direction of the male patriarchy as witnessed by too much emphasis on competition, aggression and power as a pathway to self-identity.

Yoga and the awakening of the divine feminine dovetail together as a pathway to turn inward. To heal the heart. To open to love. To reclaim balance in our lives. Yoga shines a light in the darkest hours of the night to illuminate the way. This story offers an archetypal journey for how to embrace a life of loving the self, God and the beloved.

Who is Goddess Shakti? Who is Lord Shiva? Did he really invent yoga? And Why? In the Vedic tradition God created as a triune of male gods and female goddesses. Each divine couple has a role (dharma) to perform. It was Brahma and Saraswati’s job create the universe.

Vishnu and Lakshmi sustain it. Meanwhile Shiva and Shakti destroy or transform it. To save the universe from the male impulse to conquer love, Goddess Shakti hid the feminine elixir of love inside seven inner gateways within every sentient being. And in so doing Shakti dispersed herself across every particle of matter throughout the universe. To unlock the secret of enduring love one must open each of these gateways. Lord Shiva created yoga in order to keep his gateways open so he could always embrace his unembraceable beloved Shakti. For yogis, the love of Shakti and Shiva is the greatest romance of all time.

The story of Damayanti and Nala is another great romance. So ‘The Secret of Enduring Love’ packs two of India’s greatest love stories into one novel.

Love has always been easy enough for me to share and express. Being surrounded by supportive family, animals and children, love naturally overflowed from my heart and found others.

Receiving love, accepting love, and honoring my own heart has been a more turbulent journey. Could giving love too freely possibly be problematic? This question may seem silly in a world in which we love to say that love is about giving, and not receiving. Yes, it feels wonderful to love others, but what about receiving love? There was many a decision, in my earlier years, that should have flagged my issues with self-love, but I designed walls, fires, and excuses to block my pain and explain away my destructive behavior.

When I dove deeper into spirituality, and truly wanted more for myself, an unmistakable voice surfaced, a familiar voice; I’ve known my whole life. She is self-hatred, self-loathing, and she visits me daily- sometimes hourly. “Your body is huge. Everyone is looking at how disgusting you are.” Your skin, your teeth, your car, anything and everything I could hate about myself, Self-Hatred pointed out to me. Perhaps the nights I drank too much or partied too hard, I was trying to drown out Self-Hatred.

Sometimes when I argued with friends they would say the very things SelfHatred said to me. They MUST be right, all members of the “I Hate Dena Club,” begun by my own Self-Hatred.

What’s with the doom and gloom, Miss Dena? Admitting what my negative self-talk was doing to my spirit, body and life was the first time I realized—accepted — I was my own worst enemy. Ironically, this was very good news! It meant I had complete control over what had burdened me for so many years. If I was in control, there were going to be some changes! Luckily, I was surrounded by spiritual teachers and my two brothers who were on a quite similar, yet unique, spiritual journey. I began the work: the task of taking that first, hard look in the mirror, and asking the tough questions.

What do you want in your life?

When you leave certain people, why do you feel like a sticky mass has coated you, and you can’t shower quick enough, or long enough to get it off? Why do you wake up after drinking with best friends, and over-analyze every expression?

These are not healthy habits, yet they had become my patterns. Now, I was on my way to reprogramming them. I had gotten through the first step, identifying

them when they occurred, and finding a way to turn them around. Byron Katie’s four questions helped tremendously, but just by hearing and stopping yourself before the thought is complete is powerful.

Once while doing angel readings in New Hampshire a beautiful woman in a sun dress and sparkly eyes sat before me.

During her reading, an unhealthy situation seemed to be hindering her and she said, “I have a lot of self-hatred.” “What?” I thought, “how could you, so beautiful, radiating love and positive energy hold such negative emotion?” I shared how perfect and wonderful her energy was.

She talked about being self-conscious, hating her body and finally acknowledging she longed for a relationship, but was fully aware that as long as she harbored such self-hatred she would not meet anyone- much less the person who would compliment her highest self. At that moment it became quite clear - many of us struggle with Self-Hatred.

Where should YOU begin?

Admit the truth to yourself, and act accordingly. Catch yourself as negative self-talk emerges, and stop it in its tracks. Be Gentle with yourself. Pay close attention to those who make you feel self-conscious, and spend a little less time in their presence. Observe how you feel differently.

Identify one area that you are truly talented in your job, sports, photography… There are many, begin with one, and compliment yourself. If you are beating yourself up for words or actions from yesterday or ten years ago, forgive yourself. You were doing the best you could at the time. It’s time to let go.

Look into the mirror - make up or no makeup - look deep into your own eyes; don’t look away. Go deeper. Then tell yourself you love yourself. This is especially helpful after a situation that left you feeling disappointed in yourself. Tell yourself that you are a beautiful woman. I am strong. If you are regretting words spoken, try to understand and explain to yourself; if I spoke those words while they may have sounded inappropriate, everything is for a reason so someone - maybe me - needed to hear them. Tell yourself “I will let it go” take a lesson and move on. Regardless of the situation, find the lesson, honor the experience and move on.

As you more easily identify and temper negative self-talk, you may notice that you also judge others silently, yet harshly. Catching yourself judging others is essential to decreasing negative self-talk. Judging - ourselves and others - takes up space in our heads, leaving little room for self-love, support or encouragement.
