Southridge School and the organizers of the Rally for Mental Health Volleyball Tournament would like to recognize that we gather on the the traditional, unceded territories of the Kwantlen, Katzie, Tsawwassen, and Semiahmoo First Nations. As settlers to this territory, we recognize the the relationship the Coast Salish people have had with it since time immemorial; and, as a community we respect their continued connection to it today. Collectively, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the Coast Salish people for their careful and responsible stewardship of this beautiful and abundant territory, and we commit to using it wisely and preserving it for future generations.
We recognize the powerful role sport plays in bringing communities together, and we are committed to using it as a pathway for reconciliation and healing. As a community, we pledge to support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action—particularly articles 87-91, which ask the sports world to make systematic changes that are inclusive and respectful to Indigenous peoples. Together, we can build a future rooted inunderstanding, respect, and positive action.
