Rally For Mental Health Program 2025

Page 1

October 3-4, 2025

Southridge School and the organizers of the Rally for Mental Health Volleyball Tournament would like to recognize that we gather on the the traditional, unceded territories of the Semiahmoo First Nationsand the broader unceded territories of the Coast Salish peoples. As settlers to this territory, we recognize the relationship the Coast Salish people have had with it since time immemorial; and, as a community we respect their continued connection to it today. Collectively, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the Coast Salish people for their careful and responsible stewardship of this beautiful and abundant territory, and we commit to using it wisely and preserving it for future generations.

We recognize the powerful role sport plays in bringing communities together, and we are committed to using it as a pathway for reconciliation and healing. As a community, we pledge to support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action—particularly articles 87-91, which ask the sports world to make systematic changes that are inclusive and respectful to Indigenous peoples. Together, we can build a future rooted inunderstanding, respect, and positive action.

Principal’s Welcome

Welcome to our annual Southridge Senior Volleyball Tournament! We are once again proud to host this year’s Rally for Mental Health Tournament which is dedicated to shining a light on the importance of youth mental health and wellbeing.

As part of our School’s commitment to student wellbeing and fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment, this tournament is more than just a competition; it’s a chance to learn, connect, and advocate for mental health awareness together. Like last year, all proceeds from this year’s event will support Buddy Check for Jesse Society, a grassroots Canadian charity equipping coaches and teams with tools to talk about and normalize mental health.

Let’s take this opportunity to rally not only on the court, but also around a cause that truly matters. Together, we can spark conversations, strengthen understanding, and make a lasting impact.

Director of Athletics’ Welcome

On behalf of the Athletics Department, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to our annual Rally for Mental Health Volleyball Tournament. We are excitedto have you join us for this important event that combines the energy of competition with the power of community and care.

This event is more than just volleyball—it is an opportunity to stand together in support of mental health awareness, to celebrate teamwork, and to make a positive di erence beyond the court. By being here, you are helping us raise both funds and awareness for a cause that touches us all in some way.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the coaches, athletes, and supporters whose commitment makes this tournament possible. Your spirit of sportsmanship, resilience, and generosity reflects the very best of what athletics can bring to our lives.

We wish each team the best of luck throughout the tournament. Play hard, cheer loudly, and remember that we are all united by something bigger than the game. Together, let’s rally for mental health.

Since 2022, the Rally for Mental Health has aimed to be more than just another volleyball tournament. Southridge players and coaches believed it was important to connect the game they love to a cause that supports individuals beyond the court. From that idea, this meaningful charity event was created.

What began as an eight-team tournament has now grown to include sixteen competitive teams from across British Columbia. Together, we’ve raised over $8,000 in support of Buddy Check for Jesse—a charity that promotes mental health awareness and provides valuable resources for student-athletes. Funds raised through registration, donations, and our spirit day will help Buddy Check for Jesse continue their vital outreach work.

Wishing you all the best as you compete over the next two days and take part in important conversations about mental health with your teams and community.
