The organizers of the 2024 Girls Vo lleyball Championships would like to recognize that we gather on the traditional, unceded territories of the Kwantlen, Katzie, Tsawwassen, and Semiahmoo First Nations. As settlers to this territory, we recognize the relationship the Coast Salish people have had with it since time immemorial; and as a sporting community, we respect their continued connection to it today. Collectively, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the Coast Salish people for their careful and responsible stewardship of this beautiful and abundant territory, and we commit to using it wisely and perserving it for future generations.
We recognize the powerful role that sport plays in bringing communities together, and we are committed to using it as a pathway for reconciliation and healing. As a community, we pledge to support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action - particularly articles 87-91, which asks the sports world to make systematic changes that are inclusive and respectful of Indigenous peoples. Together,we can build a future rooted in understanding, respect, and positive action.
