OUR COMMUNITY This map reflects our "community of interest." A community of interest is a community of people who have common concerns and would benefit from being maintained in a single district. Race/ ethnicity can play a role in defining a community of interest but cannot be used as the sole definition. Residents may have a shared ancestry, history, or language.

What is redistricting? Every decade, states and local governments redraw voting districts across the country to take into account changes in the last Census . This is called redistricting. Redistricting will have a big impact on our democracy, influencing who wins elections, who is at the table when laws are considered, and what laws are passed (Brennan Center). What is gerrymandering? Gerrymandering, the practice of drawing districts to favor one political party or racial group, skews election results, makes races less competitive, hurts communities of color, and thwarts the will of the voters. It leads many Americans to feel their voices don’t matter (Brennan Center).
