Paper Tiger 52nd National Champs

The 52nd Australian Championships of the Paper Tiger Catamaran were a GO! The event was held from Saturday 7th January to Wednesday 11th January 2023, races took place offshore in the ocean near Main Beach, Gold Coast. With a record number of competitors from around Australia, it was great to see so many people coming together to enjoy this popular class of boat.

The Paper Tiger’s lightweight design and durable construction make it an ideal choice for a range of sailors, from beginners to experienced champions. The varying wind and water conditions of the offshore races through the Regatta added to the challenge and excitement, with close finishes and thrilling battles throughout the fleet.

The Southport Yacht Club’s alliance with the Queensland Paper Tiger Catamaran Association highlights the importance of collaboration and community in the sailing world. It’s great to see organisations working together to provide opportunities for sailors of all skill levels to compete and have fun. In the end, two boats stood out as the top competitors, GON WILD and FLYN BRYN. Both boats sailed an impressive series, and the skippers should be commended for their perseverance and awesome sailing skills.

The 2023 Paper Tiger Catamaran 52nd Australian Championships were a resounding success for everyone involved with the strong turnout of sailors and spectators, along with the exhilarating offshore racing conditions that show cased our internationally recognised premier Yacht Club.
