SOUTHPOINTE CHAMBER ME MBER WESTMORELAND ELECTRIC OFFERS AID TO CONNELLSVILLE COMMUNITY On August 28, 2016, many Connellsville residents were victims of flash flooding. Westmoreland Electric, one of our Southpointe Chamber members, offered assistance to homes in the Dutch Town area of Connellsville along North Street, Connell Street, and York Avenue.

With a crew of eight electricians and a project manager, they went home to home to assess the damage caused by the flood waters. Once the survey was completed and each house was deemed safe, the team started replacing electrical circuit breaker panels and meter sockets that were submerged under floodwaters. The objective was to make the electrical service safe enough so the power company could reconnect the power for homeowners to have power to their flooded homes.

Workers for Westmoreland Electric included Michael Kitta, who coordinated the effort with local authorities; Tyler Cowen; Matt Fine; William Miller; Joe Negri; Dillon Pizzuto; Dana Riffle; Adam Saunders; and Travis Tucholski. Phillip Hunt and Brian Owens also assisted with surveying the damage and compiling the list of homeowners to be helped.

This isn't the first time Westmoreland Electric stepped up to aid in disaster relief. Various Pennsylvania towns in September of 2004 were devastated by floods caused by hurricane Ivan sweeping up the eastern coast. Westmoreland Electric provided materials and labor to replace electrical services for residents of the community of Heidelberg, Pa., after Chartiers Creek overflowed its banks.

They replaced panel boxes, meter bases, and service entrance cables and had the services inspected, all free of charge, so residents could have power restored to their houses. Over 20 Westmoreland Electric employees worked over a week to help the residents.

All labor for this effort was donated by Westmoreland Electric. All material was donated by Cardello Electric Supply of Uniontown and Scott Electric Supply of Greensburg.

Westmoreland Electric believes that giving back to the community and helping their neighbors is important.

The employees take pride in helping other people and organizations in need.

Their team was able to address the needs of 22 homeowners in the flooded area. Work started on September 1st and was completed by September 14th. Brian Coll, an electrical inspector for K-2 Electrical Inspections donated his services to do the prerequisite inspections so the power company could energize the homes.

Outside of their volunteer efforts, Westmoreland Electric functions as a full-service electrical contractor specializing in electrical design and construction for commercial, institutional, municipal, industrial, and multi-unit housing. Cecil Township Volunteer Fire Company No. 2 Station 29 MUSE The Cecil Township Volunteer Fire Company #2 was incorporated in 1951. We are one of three departments within the township. Our fire response district consists of the Village of Muse, the Southpointe Business Park, and the housing developments known as Alto Piano, Pristine Fields, Mayfair Meadows, Mission Hills, Oakbrooke and Overlook. We provide mutual aid to the other township fire departments, as well as the neighboring boroughs of Canonsburg, McDonald, Chartiers Township, North Strabane Township and South Fayette Township.

We currently have a well trained staff that consists of Interior and Exterior Firefighters, Vehicle Rescue Technicians, and Emergency Medical Technicians. Our entire staff is trained to assist EMS on priority dispatch calls.

We average over 250 calls per year, and are ready, willing and able to assist with any type of emergency.

2016 I N REVI EW

A QUICK RECAP OF 2016 SOUTHPOINTE NEWS & EVENTS As we bring 2016 to an end, we have great reason to celebrate Southpointe’s continued success. Because this is our last edition for the year, it’s a good time to review highlights from Southpointe.

Town Center is becoming a great gathering place for the Southpointe community. Business, dining, and services are centrally located in this area. New companies that moved into the Town Center include On Pointe Dental Center, Barre3 Fitness, and FASTER Fitness. These businesses added to the existing restaurants, beauty salons, gift shop, banks, and offices to enhance the small town concept.

Now under construction and soon to open is Zip Office.

This is an office complex designed for smaller companies that need an occasional conference room, office, or work area. A receptionist, package delivery, and private mail boxes are included. This concept gives smaller businesses a professional store front, quality meeting place, and most importantly, a prestigious address in Southpointe on Main Street.

Chicago based M & J Wilkow recently aquired the former Ansys building and plans a multi-million-dollar renovation.

The old Ansys 100,000+ sq. ft. building was recently purchased by a Chicago-based real estate investment company, M & J Wilkow, Ltd. They are planning a multi-million-dollar renovation that will add a new outdoor patio and other amenities. M & J Wilkow is renaming the property Apex 275 Southpointe, because the building sits at one of the highest points in Southpointe. Vice President Marty Sweeney said his company is looking for the right tenant to fill the office space, someone who will want “to control your own environment and brand the building for yourself.” A building this size with full availability is a rare option in Pittsburgh's suburbs. As a bonus, 3.5 acres of land adjoin the Apex, which could allow for a 50,000-square-foot expansion.

Mylan Labs just completed a 1,200 space parking garage behind their complex. They also announced a new building to be added in front of the existing structure in 2017, with an overhead walkway joining the two properties, separated by Mylan Drive.

Many ask if the oil and gas industry is still growing in the Southpointe area, and the answer is “yes.” American Petroleum Partners, LLC (APP) plans to begin exploration and production in the Marcellus and Utica Shales, with its new headquarters at 380 Southpointe Blvd. The company was started in 2014 by Varun Mishra, a former executive with Rice Energy, also headquartered in Southpointe.

Last September, APP entered a partnership with Apollo Global Management, LLC, which can provide up to $800 million in private equity investment to APP.

For weekly updates on growth in our vicinity, come to the Southpointe Breakfast Workshop held at Montana’s Rib and Chop House in Town Center on Main Street in Southpointe. All are invited, with no membership or location in Southpointe required. The free breakfast meeting—with free coffee—is held every Tuesday from 8 AM to 9 AM, and attendees can orders a full breakfast from the cash menu.
