Letter from the Executive Director Dear Chamber members, friends, and supporters: Happy New Year! It’s evident that the Racetrack Road Corridor is growing much faster than expected. Take a look at the area, and you will see many new establishments. Foremost is the new Hyatt Hotel Pittsburgh South, which is adjacent to The Meadows Racetrack and Casino. There is even a covered walkway from the hotel to the casino, making it very convenient for hotel guests, especially when the weather is bad. There is also a new gas station, four new hotels (including the Hyatt Hotel), six new restaurants (which includes Primanti Brothers), one new apartment complex, a day care center, offices and retail stores. The Tanger Outlet Factory dominates the retail stores, with so many brands to choose from, including Coach, Banana Republic, Gap, and Old Navy, to name a few. We are excited with the areas growth, as the Racetrack Road Business Association is slated to have a Trade Show in the area in the middle of the year. Is there a growth connection between Southpointe and Racetrack Road for 2016? In part, due to our integration of the two sided magazine concept, Southpointe Marcellus Magazine and Racetrack Road Magazine consistently document the seamless merging of the two areas of high growth. Working hand-in-hand developers and investors such as Horizon Properties, Millcraft Investments, and others realize the potential of these two corridors. Why the consistent growth? These areas are ideally situated twenty minutes from Pittsburgh and the International airport. Added are the crossing of I-79, I-70, and Route 19. Although there has been a downturn in oil/gas energy growth, it’s only a projected two years before pipe line infrastructure, new processing plants, and manufacturing facilities round out a great healthy 20 year growth. The lower tax rate, excellent local government planning, and casino investment have an added plus to the opportunity. The growth is not tied to one industry but a combination of many factors including great work ethics of the local people. This growth phenomena is well documented with higher education institute studies by W&J College, Penn State, and others. Most importantly, national and international investors have put billions into the area infrastructure as a show of faith and belief. It all adds up to opportunities for us and the next generation of businesses and families. “This accelerated growth is not a short term bubble but consistent and
steady paradigm of opportunities for all of us. Terry Caldwell retires from Southpointe publishing team Terry Caldwell announced his retirement from the Southpointe Chamber of Commerce Advertising Department in early November 2015. Terry was very instrumental with the Southpointe magazine development in 2004, when he produced a wall map. Years later, we decided to expand into what is now the magazine’s latest edition of almost 60 full-color pages. A few years ago, we expanded again by adding the Racetrack Road Directory, which is distributed to lobbies, offices and restaurants on the Racetrack Road Corridor. Terry will continue to help us with ad layouts and provide input as we make the transition with our new team member. Terry’s creativity, attention to detail, and dedication were greatly appreciated.
