COLLABORATION IN ACTION

THIS GIVING REPORT is filled with examples of Southminster’s collaboration in action. During our fiscal year, we solidified co-branded collaborations with The Ivey and Shepherd’s Center of Charlotte, working towards enhancing and expanding access to programs and services related to brain health, respite care, life-long learning, free transportation, and free tax and Medicare counseling for seniors across our region.

In 2022 we welcomed the addition of Memory and Movement and the expertise of Dr. Chuck Edwards and his colleagues to our campus. This compliments our values of excellence, compassion, and well-being while providing another access point for those living on our campus and in our region who seek care related to Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and related conditions. Our Southminster Patient Scholarship with Memory and Movement helps to eliminate financial barriers for families and loved ones and seeks to improve and expand access for those most in need.

With COVID-19 restrictions lifted we were overjoyed to bring back our intergenerational reading program with our young students from the Greater Enrichment Program in 2022! We are looking forward to continuing this exceptional collaboration and many others into 2023 and beyond.

Our 2022 Giving Report underscores the impact we have when we work with like-minded organizations in Charlotte to help address gaps and barriers that impact individuals of all ages, especially seniors and those that care for them.

Thank you for your support in helping us to give, grow, and serve our Southminster and greater Charlotte Mecklenburg community.

With gratitude,

Ben Gilchrist | President/CEO

Capital Campaign

Our Capital Campaign Committee wrapped up its fundraising efforts in 2022. Under the leadership of Campaign Chairman and resident Dick Brigden, the committee raised $3 million towards alleviating debt associated with our new health center.

The work of the campaign accelerated the progress outlined in our new strategic plan related to managing our debt obligations over the next three to five years. A heartfelt thanks to the entire Capital Campaign committee and all who contributed to this successful effort!

Employee Holiday Fund

We wrap up each year with a demonstration of community and compassion with another successful fundraising effort by our volunteer committee of residents led by Biff Bracy, who collaboratively work to raise funds in appreciation of our hourly employees. This tremendous example of caring for one another enriches the lives of everyone here at Southminster. Thank you!

Resident Financial Assistance

During our fiscal year 2022, Southminster provided close to $700,000 in resident financial assistance. This outward demonstration of compassion and holistically caring for one another are values that have been part of Southminster since its inception thirty-six years ago. A sincere thank you to all our donors who continue to support our annual efforts to keep this valuable program accessible for our residents in need.

Community Collaboration

For over eight years we have made intentional efforts to develop well-formed and trusting relationships with like-minded non-profits in our region. These organizations share in our values of community, excellence, compassion, well-being, and doing the right thing.

Years of working to develop these relationships have resulted in collaborative work on shared objectives that have a direct impact on our residents, staff, and the greater Charlotte community.
