2025 — WE CELEBRATE OUR 40TH ANNUAL FESTIVAL: Our anxiously anticipated art
festival is held annually on Sunset Drive in vibrant downtown South Miami. An estimated 30,000 patrons visited our last show. Profits from the event benefit local Rotary scholarships and other local and international projects. To learn more, visit our website: somiartfest.org. WHEN IS THE FESTIVAL? Saturday, February 22, 2025, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. LIVE Music & Dancing until 9 p.m. in the Food Court/Stella Artoise Beer Garden. Sunday, February 23, 2025, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. WHERE IS THE FESTIVAL? On Sunset Drive (SW 72nd St) between US1 and Red Road (SW 57th Ave.). GETTING THERE: If you’re driving or biking from the north, take US 1 south to Red Road (SW 57th Ave.) and turn left toward Sunset Drive. From the south take Old Cutler or US 1 north toward Sunset Dr. Or take the Metrorail. The South Miami station is right across US 1 from the festival. PARKING: There is ample on-street parking, garages at Shops of Sunset Place, a City of South Miami garage on SW 58th Ct. north of 73rd St., and on SW 73rd St. across from Bellezza Spa as well as a lot on SW 73rd St. across from the rear entrance of United Community Bank. ROTARY DRINKS BOOTH: Rotary will be selling beer, wine, hard seltzers, and water in the Food Court to benefit our charities. Please do not bring outside beverages into the festival. We appreciate your support of our Stella Artois Beer Garden which stays open Saturday until 9 PM during the Jam Session. RECYCLING: Bins on every block and in the Food Court. Please use them for your cans and bottles. No food please.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS: Baptist Health booth will have health information as well as a First Aid station. You can find it at the Food Court, Sunset and 58th Avenue. ATM LOCATIONS AND CREDIT CARDS: Several banks on Sunset Drive have ATM’s, and all stores and most artists accept major credit cards. SECURITY: South Miami Police are on site at all times including for overnight surveillance. Rotary volunteers have radio contact with Festival Headquarters at the United Community Bank of South Miami and also with South Miami Police. LOST AND FOUND: Lost and Found is located in the United Community Bank, 5750 Sunset Drive. After the festival, please call 305-7695977 and leave a message. REST ROOM FACILITIES: Accessible portable units, including hand-washing stations, are located on SW 58 Ave. in the municipal parking lot behind former Dr. Smood. Ample wayfinding signs will direct you. FESTIVAL RULES: No solicitation by commercial or nonprofit groups is allowed. Riding skateboards, roller blades, bicycles, scooters, or having large signs or placards which may endanger or inconvenience the public are prohibited.
Festival organizers reserve the right to decline admittance to anyone who violates the reasonable policies established for public safety and the right to restrict activities such as public address to designated areas.
A Message from our President Welcome to our 40th annual SOMI Art Festl! We’re glad you’ve joined us as you search for those unique fine arts and crafts to take home. Anniversary milestones are always a reason to celebrate and this art festival is no exception. We are thrilled to be celebrating 40 years of art shoes, 40 years of volunteers serving their community and 40 years of showcasing the beautiful streets of the City of South Miami. Since 1950, the Rotary Club of South Miami has been the lunchtime networking group for civicminded business people and professionals in the South Miami, Kendall, and Pinecrest areas. On the 1st and 2nd Tuesday of each month we meet for lunch at the Kitchen 57 right here in South Miami from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. Additionally, we have an evening social event every 4th Tuesday at various locations. By supporting our festival, you help us to fulfill our service mission of supporting the youth and youth centered organizations in South Miami. In our local community, we’ve supported many youth focused organizations such as Branches, My Music Match, Area Stage, Friendship Circle, Miami Music Project, IMAGO POR LAS ARTES, and many more. We have also provided college scholarships to local high school students from South Miami High School and Terra Environmental High School. Globally, Rotary’s unique blend of business networking and civic engagement has made it the largest service organization in the world with over 33,000 clubs worldwide and 1.2 million members who are committed to Service Above Self. Rotary International and its partners have almost completed the relentless 37-year mission of eradicating Polio worldwide. Wild poliovirus cases have decreased by over 99% since 1988, from an estimated 350 000 cases in more than 125 endemic countries then, to 62 reported cases in 2024. The efforts of Rotarians and their partners around the globe will pay off---we will soon have a world free of this crippling disease. Your participation at the Festival and awareness of our community’s needs helps us all to do well by doing good. JUDGES 2025 Judges selected by the festival committee are chosen for their varied backgrounds and experience in diverse art disciplines. This guarantees that the work of our exhibitors is always in good hands. The winners of this year’s awards will be posted on the front door of show headquarters in the United Community Bank of South Miami late on Saturday afternoon, February 24 at 4 PM. Profiled below are the judges for 2024. Carlos Enrique Gallostra is a representational artist and instructor based in Miami, Florida. Gallostra holds a B.F.A. from the New World School of the Arts, a conservatory in the heart of Downtown Miami which is affiliated with the University of Florida, as well as a M.F.A. and a M.S. from the Pratt Institute of New York. In addition, Gallostra furthered his studies in classical as well as contemporary approaches to figurative art at various ateliers, academies, and museums throughout the U.S. and abroad. As an instructor, Gallostra teaches private clientele as well as several workshops and university courses, which establish a rigorous focus on figurative art and portraiture. His work can be found in several private and public collections. Nelson Alvarez was born in Havana, Cuba. He graduated from the Institute Technical Superior of Havana, School of Architecture, in 1979. His work as an architect and professor at the same institute led to an opportunity to study at the University of Venice, School of Architecture, in 1992, where he earned a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning. Alvarez then continued to live and study in Italy for more than a decade. Early on, Alvarez developed a passion for photography and graphic design while also refining his freehand drawing skills. These talents proved both beneficial and profitable when he moved to Venice, where he worked on various projects as an architect and photographer. In 2004, Alvarez relocated to Miami, Florida, where his family had settled. Since 1980, he has worked extensively as an architect, professor, photographer, and as an Italian and Spanish language tutor.Alvarez’s main areas of interest are Urban Environment and Architecture, Dance, Theater, Portraits, Artistic Nudes, and the study of the Human Body Language. His images demonstrate how, even in the presence of dim light or using dramatic shadows, a photograph’s underlying message is conveyed. Mariela Corte has been a working artist for more than 12 years. A past president of the South Florida Jewelry Arts Guild, she is a Board member and chairs the Education Committee. She also belongs to the Florida Society of Goldsmiths. Her primary work is in metal work and wire weaving, but she has worked in Polymer Clay, Enamels and mixed media. Mariela has taken workshops with many prestigious national and international artists such as Mary Hettmansperger, Pauline Warg, Sam Patania, and more. She went to Paris and the south of France for a 2 weeks workshop on “Found objects”with Susan Lenat-Kazmer and Linda Larsen. and she enjoys teaching workshops herself at national shows and art societies.

THE ARTISTS ON STAGE BIANCA JADE Bianca Jade is a Cuban-Jamaican R&B artist from Miami, blending soulful vocals with empowering messages, especially for women. Inspired by legends like Aretha Franklin and Alicia Keys, she debuted with B-Light in 2017 and has since shared stages with Jordin Sparks, Talib Kweli, and JoJo. Featured on BET, iHeart Radio, and Netflix’s Perfect Match, Bianca’s latest EP JADE Vol. 1 has over 200,000 Spotify streams. Her music continues to inspire and resonate worldwide
EL GRUPO H El Grupo H is a talented family ensemble dedicated to music and cultural impact. Comprised of the Rivas Family, they created the soundtrack for Netflix’s Rebelion, a film celebrating Colombian salsero Joe Arroyo. CANNIBAL KIDS With roots in South Florida, Damian Gutierrez (Vocals, Rhythm Guitar), Dustin Diaz (Lead Guitar), and Luke Faulkingham (Drums) blend infectious guitar riffs, danceable grooves, and entrancing melodies. Since signing with Shaemax Records in 2016, the band has toured nationwide and shared stages with Young the Giant, Knox Hamilton, and Chelsea Cutler. Drawing inspiration from Japanese City Pop, jazz, and indie-rock, Cannibal Kids continue to evolve with high-energy tunes and a unique, groovy sound. BOYS DON’T CRY 80’S BAND Boys Don’t Cry is an 80s alternative tribute band dedicated to recreating the iconic sounds of that unforgettable decade. Based in Miami, South Florida, the band is made up of four professional musicians delivering a powerful and authentic 80s experience. From new wave rock to timeless hits, Boys Don’t Cry brings the spirit of the 80s to life.
ZACH BARTHOLOMEW BAND Zachary Bartholomew is an award-winning pianist, composer, and music educator, recognized as one of Florida’s top pianists. He has been a finalist in the Jacksonville Jazz Piano Competition and has received the prestigious “Artist Performance on Tour” grant for his Jazz Access Tour, providing world-class performances to underserved communities. Zach has performed at top jazz festivals and venues, collaborating with artists like Sean Jones and Carmen Bradford. He is a full-time professor at Florida Memorial University and regularly performs with professional ensembles. His debut album, Balancing Act, is set for release in July 2024. THE ARTISTS THITO CAMARGO hito Camargo and his trio bring the vibrant sounds of Brazil to life, blending tradition with innovation. Featuring Thito on piano, Diogo Brown on bass, and Rey Monroig on drums, they explore styles like Samba, Choro, Baião, and Maracatu. Their repertoire includes classics from Tom Jobim and Hermeto Pascoal alongside Thito’s original compositions, delivering rich melodies, dynamic grooves, and masterful improvisation for an unforgettable musical experience.
AUSTIN MUTHYALA Meet Austin Muthyala, aka “Muthybaby,” is a 25-year-old jazz trumpeter blending styles from Kompa to Funk to Jazz. He’s shared the stage with legends like Terell Stafford, Melissa Aldana, and Rodney Whitaker. With degrees from Michigan State and the University of Miami, he’s now lighting up Miami’s music scene with his sextet, Muthybaby & Friends.
ASHLEY PEZZOTTI Ashley Pezzotti is a rising star in the New York jazz scene, blending the elegance, rhythmic sophistication, and infectious joy of the great jazz vocalists who came before her. Just in her 20s, Pezzotti has already made her mark, touring and recording with jazz legends like Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO), and icons such as Arturo Sandoval, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and piano prodigy Joey Alexander.
