A MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR Dear South Holland Residents and Friends, It’s hard to believe that we are already here! It always goes so fast. We are at the end of another summer season, and without a doubt, our summer of ’26 has certainly been very memorable. Together, we’ve experienced some wonderful, warm, and beautiful days. That said, we’ve also shared weeks of extreme heat, a number of unforeseen storms, excessive rain fall, high winds causing trees to topple, and extreme flooding conditions. For the first time in our history, because of our years of planning, preparation, and partnership with the MWRD (Metropolitan Water & Reclamation District) to prevent overbank flooding in South Holland, we have witnessed 7.4 billion gallons of water flowing into the north lobe of the quarry. Although we have experienced a variety of unprecedented events, we as a village have consistently provided a full mosaic of family programs and activities. The Village of South Holland is a mosaic in its own right, a collection of diverse parts that come together to form a unified whole. With righteous humility, no village recognizes the strengths and passions of its residents quite like ours. Our Village Board and Administration consistently highlight the progress and improvements made by our churches, schools, businesses, service organizations, and neighborhood groups. Our leadership team takes pride in setting the standard to define sustained success of a vibrant and prosperous community. So, as we move towards an exciting fall season, let’s take a moment to recognize our accomplishments and to make a concerted effort as to how we will best serve our village, connect with each other, and enhance our commitment to the greater good. Our dedicated SHRS staff shares in the mission of our “Coming Together 2030” strategic plan to form valuable partnerships and provide the best resources possible for you to realize your goals. Beginning it’s 26th year of operation, the Community Center (and its soon-to-be-opened companion facility--Family Athletic Center), provides ample opportunities for you to experience the joy of living a healthy life. Inside this edition of the FIT Book, you’ll find opportunities for you to take charge of your wellbeing by taking advantage of a mosaic of offerings. Have fun! To “Coming Together” for self and community… Don A. De Graff, Mayor Village of South Holland

BALLET FOR CHILDREN
BIDDY BASKETBALL ACADEMY
The class proposes a typical ballet class structure, following the well-renowned methods of “Vaganova” and “The Royal Academy of Dancing” academic ballet technique. The class will include Barre sequences with the following Center segments: Adagio, Allegro, Grand Allegro. The class structure will adapt to the different age and level of the participating students. Ballet is a weightbearing form of exercise which strengthens muscles, promotes healthy bones and burns calories. Because ballet uses the full range of muscles, it is also great for cognitive functions such as coordination and concentration. Being an art form, ballet is great for posture, balance, elegance, aesthetics, but it can also reduce the symptoms of depression, developing the individual expression for a higher level of self-esteem. And it is fun!
Come join our Biddy Basketball Academy as we bring "Biddy Ball" for the first time! We invite all participants in Kindergarden-2nd grade to participate as we introduce them to the game of basketball. There will be fun basketball games and activities as well as some basic fundamental training. This program is ran by Coach CJ Cross, Head Girls and Assistant Boys Basketball Coach for Unity Christian Academy. Please register online or at SHCC.

BALLET FOR ADULTS
The classproposes a typical ballet class structure, following the well-renowned methods of “Vaganova” and “The Royal Academy of Dancing” academic ballet technique. The class will include Barre sequences with the following Center segments: Adagio, Allegro, Grand Allegro. The class structure will adapt to the different age and level of the participanting students. Ballet is a weight-bearing form of exercise which strengthens muscles, promotes healthy bones and burns calories. AGES: WHERE: WHEN:

TREE OF LIFE
In 2000, the Community Center Endowment Committee was originally established to allow residents and businesses the opportunity to be a part of the village’s recreational crown jewel. Initial participation helped to underwrite part of the cost of individual rooms within the Community Center. Today, the lobby of the Community Center showcases the beautiful 12’x12’ “Tree of Life.” This display is a visual representation of the generosity and commitment to the relentless pursuit of improvement desired by South Holland’s residents and businesses. If you would like to learn more about the “Tree of Life,” or if you are interested in being a part of the legacy by making a donation, please call the South Holland Village Administration office at 708.210.2900.
