Dear Residents and Friends of the Village of South Holland,
The best time for new beginnings is now.
Unceasingly, the fall season has always been a time of reflection and contemplation, reviewing what the spring and summer have offered and pondering what the winter and a New Year will hold. However, life is never this predictable. This is why it is so important that we remain steadfast and wide-eyed in seeking opportunities that can help better ourselves, our families, and our community. Whether it be beginning a new career, buying a house, starting a family, or joining a club, we are all faced with decisions that will influence who we become. While these choices may cause nervousness, we have to be bold, sometimes fearless, and courageous to take the first step. Because once we do, there’s no telling how far we can go!
While the Village of South Holland values tradition, the Village Board and Administration consistently seek the right set of circumstances to grow our community. As the wellknown leader in the Southland region, we continually strive to take progressive measures to solidify the foundational principles of our village…faith, family, and future. Through servant leadership, we engage in responsible decision-

making that keeps South Holland shining as a beacon for good. Take, for example, our new Family Athletic Center, the construction for which broke ground this summer. Our administration is “all in” on providing a facility for South Holland families to gather, recreate, and succeed. We made a bold choice to redefine our downtown area, and we could not be more excited!
I encourage each of you to do the same with your own lives. Reflect. Dream. Decide. Why put off until tomorrow, what you can do today? Pursue, with conviction, what matters to you, and do all you can to achieve your goals. As they say, “it takes a village…” Well, the one you call home is certainly by your side.
Our dedicated SHRS staff believes it’s important for you to make time for new beginnings, those that create good habits towards living a healthy life. This means dedicating yourself to improving your physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Inside this edition of the FIT Book, you’ll find opportunities for you to begin to make the most of the precious gift that is you. Swim. Dance. Run. Sweat. Enjoy… but first, you have to start!
To new beginnings creating an even better future…

This class proposes a typical ballet class structure, following the well-renowned methods of “Vaganova” and “The Royal Academy of Dancing” academic ballet technique. The class will include Barre sequences with the following Center segments: Adagio, Allegro, Grand Allegro. The class structure will adapt to the different age and level of the participating students. Why is taking a ballet class good at any age? Ballet is a weight-bearing form of exercise that strengthens muscles, promotes healthy bones and burns calories. Because ballet uses the full range of muscles, it is also great for cognitive functions such as coordination and concentration. Being an art form, ballet is great for posture, balance, elegance, aesthetics. It can also reduce the symptoms of depression, while developing individual expression and a higher self-esteem. And it is fun!

Initial participation helped to underwrite part of the cost of individual rooms within the Community Center. Today, the lobby of the Community Center showcases the beautiful 12’x12’ “Tree of Life.” This display is a visual representation of the generosity and commitment to the relentless pursuit of improvement desired by South Holland’s residents and businesses. If you would like to learn more about the “Tree of Life,” or if you are interested in being a part of the legacy by making a donation, please call the South Holland Village Administration office at 708.210.2900

The South Holland Parks Department of Recreational Services reserves the right to periodically take photos of program participants for promotion or publication. Personal photos are taken during class with the permission of instructor and participants.
The South Holland Department of Recreational Services and the South Holland Police Department are reminding residents that pets (on or off a leash) are NOT permitted in any South Holland Park. Help keep our parks safe, healthy, in good condition, and absent of offensive odors by doing your part. Do not allow your animals in the parks and call the South Holland Police Department, 708.331.3131, if you observe anyone violating the Village Ordinance. Your call can remain anonymous.
We ask individuals with special needs (regarding inclusion into programs) to notify us of their needs at least two weeks in advance. This will allow us time to make sure that proper staffing, equipment, and facilities are in place for a successful and safe program. By informing us early, you are helping us to work toward a smooth inclusion for everyone’s benefit.
Our parks are a pride of this Department and the community and should be respected by all. Your assistance is appreciated by reporting any criminal acts of vandalism or misuse of park properties. Please notify your police at 331-3131 or dial 911 for emergencies.
