Welcome to summertime! Entering my second year on the board, I have witnessed firsthand the amount of work and energy that goes into making our South Hills member experience first-rate. From the first moment we step on the grounds, my family and I feel like we are someplace special. I hope you feel the same way.

With the summer season comes the official opening of our pool And while the Pavilion has been open for quite some time, the area around the pool was also upgraded and enhanced. The Board is anxious to see our member families enjoying all of the planning and hard work that went into these reworked areas of the Club. Our pool area has been modernized and renovated, and this summer, it will also feature the culmination of our youth activities from our neighboring clubs as we host the Sunkist Finals. This epic event will feature our swimmers and divers at their finest. It’s also one of the best times to see young families forge friendships that will last generations.

For our golfers, we enter the peak of tournament season, starting with our Club Championship, Golf Fest And as we crown our 2024 Club Champion, remember that the celebration dinner is open to all our members – whether you played in Golf Fest or not. Join us! Tournament season is highlighted by our always overbooked Billy Bell Member-Guest tournament. This event always sells out, so reserve your spot soon!

The one aspect of South Hills that gets lost too often is just how financially sound we are as an organization. With virtually no debt, continuity in membership, and a vibrant staff, we are the premier destination in the San Gabriel Valley.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve you on the Board I hope to continue to earn your confidence.

With Mother’s Day still fresh, I've been reflecting on my maternal grandmother, Viola Fitzgerald, who ignited my culinary journey. Standing on a stool beside her stove, she taught me to respect food and extract its best flavors. Over "coffee" sessions, we'd discuss food intricacies.

Losing her during high school was tough, but in my junior year, Jane Elzy stepped in as a mentor, recognizing my talent and pushing me out of my comfort zone. Joining her Commercial Food Service class in 1982, I discovered my passion. Graduating in 1984, Jane remains a guiding force. These two, among others, shaped the chef I am today.

I look forward to honoring their memory and creating special dishes from what they have shown me but with my very own twist. We strive to provide variety in our cuisine and service above all else

As always, it is my pleasure to humbly serve you and try to make your experience here at South Hills memorable.

Sincerely,

Sean Mudd Executive Chef

Summer is nearly upon us, and we have been working this Spring in preparation for our busiest time of the year. The Kikuyugrass will soon be at it’s peak growth potential and we are mowing all day, every day. The Greens and Fairways have been aerified and our ready to withstand the heat of the coming months. The Tees will be aerified and sand topdressed in early July. We are continually striving to improve upon our maintenance program to make every year better than the last. We are always learning new procedures and techniques and we do our best to seamlessly implement these throughout the year. At times, we push the envelope and damage may occur. These are learning experiences and necessary to get where we want to be The beauty of golf course maintenance is that perfection is unattainable but there are always ways to improve.
