General Manager In Southern California, the golf scene doesn't experience much of an off-season, except perhaps in the Coachella Valley. For the rest of the region, if there were to be an off-season, it would likely fall in January or February. South Hills is hosting 6 home team play matches amidst a quarter million dollars in private event revenue which hardly seems like an offseason considering how bustling the Club has been these past 12 months. Still, it is a great time to plan for the coming year, making improvements where needed and maintaining momentum in areas where it has been established. This February, we are looking forward to the return of the annual Family Valentine’s Party as well as the Valentine’s couples dinner. The Family Valentine’s Party is on Friday, February 9th and the more intimate couples dinner is on the actual holiday of Wednesday, February 14th. We look forward to serving you there! As we do plan for the coming busy months, we must make note that South Hills CC is hosting the Sunkist League Swim and Dive Finals on July 18th, 19th, & 20th this year. As many of you know, SHCC is in a league of sister Clubs with Friendly Hills CC, Glendora CC, Victoria Club, and Red Hills CC known as The Sunkist League. Each Club hosts the league finals once every five years. This coming summer, SHCC is slated to host, and we plan of showcasing the Club with lots of amenities, accommodations, prioritizing the FB and service experience every step of the way. To help us get off to a great start, the Youth Activities Committee has set up a Casino Royale Fundraiser Night on Saturday, March 2nd. There will be tons of fun and games and all to raise money for the finals event in July. If you haven’t signed up yet for Casino Royale, jump in as soon as you can to be a part of the party! As we dive into the new year, January has brought some rainy/cold weather but that hasn’t stopped the golf! January begins our Men’s team plays of which we compete on both Thursdays and Saturdays. Both teams have had several matches and are looking to finish strong in February for a chance to compete in the playoffs. Good luck Gentlemen! During the month we also hosted a men’s stag day in which John Dearth and Shane Fuchs took home the gross over the field honors. Mike Ono and John Sigenfuse won the first flight and Mark Fuller and Nate England won the second. Congratulations to all of winners. A special congratulations to Mr. James Yan who recorded his first ever Hole in One on January 21st on #3. Our Annual AB Match Play and Hustlers events now open for registration!

WHEN TO POST A SCORE POST YOUR SCORE EVERY TIME YOU PLAY BASED ON: If you play less than 7 holes you do not post If you play only 7 holes you post a 9 hole score with net pars for hole 8 & 9 If you play more than 9 holes but fewer than 14 post a nine hole score If you play 14 or more holes post an 18 hole score with net pars for any holes not played USGA RULES OF HANDICAPPING Adjustment of hole scores For a 9 hole score to be posted at least 7 holes must be played. For an 18 hole score to be posted at least 14 holes must be played. If more than 9 but fewer than 14 holes played, you must post a 9 hole score which is (Rule 2.2 Rules of Handicapping)

Executive Chef Well, first of all, Happy Anniversary to me!!!!! As of January 3rd, I have happily reached the one-year mark here at South Hills Country Club!!!!! It has been my absolute joy to serve you over the past 12 months and I am looking forward with anticipation to many, many more!! New years are often a time of both reflection and resolve as we want to do better in the coming months and I and my staff are no different. Our desire is to be better in terms of flavors and service in 2024!! We now have a years’ worth of history to look back on, so we have been trying to get ahead of the curve in developing menus for events, as well as looking toward the next menu change!! We are looking forward to being able to add some new equipment to our kitchen to help our storage capacity and make our storage more efficient. We look forward to being able to increase our contributions to our community service partner, Vesta Foodservice, through their Chef To End Hunger program which benefits the Union Rescue Mission, in their quest to help the unhoused. We are resolving to reach out to our local hospitality programs and partner with them in the development of their young culinarians, so if you have any connections, please feel free to reach out and make the necessary introductions. Food & Beverage With the Holidays in the rear view mirror we look forward to some exciting events coming to the club in February. The second week of February kicks off with Taco Tuesday on the 6th. If you haven’t stopped by lately for lunch on Taco Tuesday lately we would love to see you! The tacos are muy delicioso and always pair well with an ice cold margarita from the bar! Back by popular demand is Pasta Night on Wednesday the 7th. This Member Favorite Dining night is highlighted by an Italian buffet of Salad, pizza, and garlic bread. You can also create your own pasta and watch the Chef cook your dish right in front of you! Pair your dish with one of our excellent new “Wines by The Glass” or choose a bottle of wine from our recently updated and extensive wine list. Don’t Forget Valentine’s Day on the 14th! Reservations are filling up quick so make sure to secure your spot now. There will be some excellent specialty cocktails as well as specially selected wines to share with that “Special Somebody”. To finish off the month we will have Birthday Buffet on the 22nd. With so many greatMember events this month we look forward to seeing you and your “Loved” ones at the Club!

From the Course We are currently in the middle of Winter and this article is a reminder of what that means to the turfgrass on the Golf Course and things players can do to help maintain the golf course. Winter is the coldest time of year. The turfgrass growth has slowed dramatically. This is due not only to the colder weather but also the shorter days. The sun is lower in the sky and lacks intensity. These factors inhibit photosynthesis which is the foundation of growth for plants. This lack of growth means that the turf is much slower in recovery from damage. Damage to the turf on the golf course happens when divots are created, or carts are driven improperly or in restricted areas. Divots cannot be avoided but it is important to always fill your divots with the mix provided. Golf carts need to be driven with more caution during this time. Please avoid sharp turns and hard acceleration and braking. Please also be aware of stakes and rope and signage that restricts access to sensitive areas. Thank you for doing your part to keep the golf course in good condition during these colder months.
