BILLY BELL
Dear Fellow SHCC Members,
F r o m t h e B o a r d
As summer winds down, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the many wonderful events and accomplishments we've experienced at South Hills Country Club this season. It is truly an honor to serve on the Board of Directors, and as a first-year Board Member, I am continually inspired by the dedication and enthusiasm of our members, various committees, and staff.
First and foremost, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this summer so successful. From Evenings at the Pavilion to the Billy Bell Tournament and the Sunkist League Finals, we have seen what our club is truly capable of. The feedback from our members and guests has been overwhelmingly positive, reflecting the hard work of our superb staff and leadership team. Additionally, as all our golfers can attest, we have experienced exceptional summer conditions. Thank you to Brett DeBie, Cortney Shrout, and their entire team for their hard work and dedication.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve on the Board of Directors Your participation and enthusiasm are what make South Hills Country Club such a special place. I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming events and around the Club.

July turned out to be, by far, the busiest month we have seen here since this service team came together almost 3 years ago. July saw the first Billy Bell in the completed Pavilion that took place a week ahead of hosting the Sunkist League Swim Finals for the first time since 2017.
SHCC saw over thousand people on property during those three days where Friendly Hills CC, Glendora CC, Red Hills CC, and Victoria Club saw how, synergistically, we can come together as a Club to pull off what many thought to be the best Sunkist League Finals any Club has seen in a long time
The summer months are typically busier than the rest of the year because our restaurant amenities and member a la carte dining locations are offered at the Pavilion and the Pool in addition to the Grill, Main Dining Room, Board Room, Men’s Card Room, and Ladies Card Room It seems like every room has something going on in it almost every day all summer long
August does present a slow down with youth swim and dive concluded and many children going back to school seemingly earlier and earlier each year Friendly reminder to mark your calendars for August 17 for our end of summer luau spectacular that will feature a tropical buffet, DJ, dancing, luau show welcome drink and more!
To capitalize on the slightly slower pace and softer calendar, August does pose a great time to take care of budgeted capital improvement projects and deferred maintenance efforts The two biggest projects that will be tackled this month are the property fence along #9 and Citrus St. and the Clubhouse flooring project.
We will begin working on taking out the property fence between #9 and Citrus St. to replace it with a new fence and new hedges that will provide the aesthetic privacy we once had there. Once completed, a new fence will be installed and podocarpus hedging will be planted on the interior of the fence so members and guests will not be able to see outside #9 onto Citrus. There will also be no view into the property from out on Citrus It will be very similar to how the property board between Citrus and #18 currently looks This project is scheduled to be underway on Monday, August 12th
We will also be installing the new clubhouse carpet and flooring project in the last week of August from August 26th through the 30th The service team will work diligently with the flooring vendors to not inconvenience the membership during that week We will maintain the same service hours for member dining during that week We may need to be creative with where we serve the membership but will do everything possible to make sure our amenities and services go uninterrupted
Both large scale projects are going to greatly improve the aesthetics of these areas and make for a better experience for the SHCC Members

July brought us a very busy month here at the club We kicked off July with our Ladies Flag Day Congratulations to Monica Kloenne on going the further over the field!
Of course you can’t the month of July without our Annual Billy Bell tournament Though temperatures were high, lots of fun was had over the weekend After 5 matches and a horse race, the endurance of the golfers was challenged. On our final hole, #9, from 165 yards out, Brian Grier hit an amazing shot into the green to 3 feet This secured his and his partner, Sean Brunske, victory over the field. Congratulations to them both!
July also hosted our first Ladies wine n nine of the year as well as our second couples twilight Congratulations to Kathy Broders, Lexington Henn, Jong Shim, and Kiseup Shim on winning the Ladies wine n nine and to Brian Grier, Lisa Grier, Denese Grier and Jess Munoz on winning the couples twilight
Coming up this month, we have Stag Day on August 9th, Ladies Wine n Nine on August 22nd, Couples Twilight on August 23rd and we also begin our Ladies Presidents Cup. We are looking forward to the month and the cooler fall weather that is sure to come in September.

From the Course
The golf course has had a successful start to the Summer. The warm season turf of the Tees, Fairways, and Rough are currently thriving. We are mowing frequently and applying growth regulators to try and slow the growth. Along with our daily maintenance activities we have completed some projects and have begun others In June we were able to remove all the excess soil that had been collected over the years adjacent to the Tennis Courts This opened room for much needed storage A concrete slab was poured, and this will be used to store golf course

materials such as sand, rock, and mulch
Another project that has just begun is a new fence and shrubs along Citrus Street and the 9th hole. We will be removing the existing chain link fence and all plant material that has grown on it.
A new chain link fence will be installed and Podocarpus will be planted and irrigated. When finished, it will match the look that we have along the 18th hole. This will be a great improvement to the Club, and we ’ re excited to complete it.
As we reflect on our very first summer night enjoying our newly remodeled Pavilion, we are filled with immense gratitude for each and every one of you who joined us.
As summer draws to a close, we are excited to invite you to our final Summer Nights at the Pavilion of the season!
Get ready to dance the night away with DJ Fabian on Friday, August 23rd alongside a delicious buffet to include grilled tri tip, pan-seared salmon, grilled marsala chicken, delicious sides, options for kids and of course pepperoni, Margherita and cheese flatbreads!
We are very excited to celebrate the near end of summer with you all !
