Mens Sana in Corpore Sano “A healthy mind in a healthy body".

A phrase every child will learn to understand that physical exercise is an important and essential part of their mental and psychological well-being.

Our Mission At Southfield, PE is an essential part of every child’s Physical development and well-being. Whilst following and adapting the aims set out in the National Curriculum, we are committed to inspiring every child to engage and enjoy competitive sport helping them to become physically confident in different ways through PE that will support and mould their health and fitness for the future .

Our Lessons During each PE lesson, every child is given the opportunity to promote and develop a positive attitude towards a healthy lifestyle and well-being.

Growing in confidence at their own ability to preform in a range of different collaborative and cooperative activities such as Athletics, Dance, Games, Gymnastics and yoga.

Inclusion It is very important that PE is inclusive to all, making every child feel confident in having the opportunity to an active role in their lessons.

All the children will continue to learn the importance of maintaining the PE values of fair play, teamwork and sportsmanship while also applying our TRUE values.

Key Stage 1 Throughout

Key Stage 1, children will be

taught the fundamental skills that will help them to grow in confidence as they develop and master basic movements that includes • Balance • Agility • Coordination as well as developing, running, jumping, throwing and catching whilst working

individually or with others.

KS1 Spring Term Learning year 1

Dance Unit 2 - Exploring simple patterns of movements. Focusing on spatial awareness whilst exploring basic movement and coordination skills to create short dances inspired by a range of different dance sequence.

Gymnastics Unit 2 - Control and Balance. Investigating basic gymnastics skills to create remember and repeat short rhythmic gymnastics phrases with a range of balance with control.

Dance Unit 2 - Performing different styles of cultural dance. Exploring and developing a range of different cultural dances actions with control and coordination expressing moods, ideas and feelings.

Gymnastics Unit 2 - Stretching and curling. Focusing on developing and performing a basic sequence of contrasting actions that flow by linking movements smoothly.

Net games Unit 1 - Tennis. Focusing on developing different playing skills when directing the ball towards the target area.

Striking & Fielding Unit 1 - Rounders and Cricket. Focusing on developing a range of different tactics when sending or striking the ball into space,fielding.

Key Stage 2 In Key Stage 2, children will continue to develop a broader range of skills, learning how to use them in different ways and to link them to make actions and sequences of movement from keeping possession of a ball in games to learning the steps to historical dance.

KS2 Spring Term Learning Gymnastics Unit 2 – Balance. Focus and develop different gymnastics skills to create a rhythmic gymnastics sequence with a partner or in a small group

Dance: Unit 2 - Exploring cultural dance. To focus on creating and adapting a range of different dance actions that demonstrates an expressive awareness of dance Gymnastics Unit 2 – Body Shape To create and preform a range of different longer sequences that include changes of level and speed focusing on different body shapes clearly Athletics Unit 1 – Running, jumping and throwing. Focusing on developing technical understanding to improve performance of running, jumping and throwing.

Dance: Unit 2 - Historical and Cultural dance. To focus on adapting different historical and cultural dance actions that communicate and demonstrate expressive awareness, through movement.

Striking and Fielding Unit 1 - Cricket. Focusing on developing a range of different skills and understanding of a batter, wicket-keeper, backstop and fielder.

What to wear All the children must wear a PE kit.

The school colours are navy blue and white.

Tournaments Children are encouraged to compete in competitive sports competitions and activities.

Southfield school has joined the Featherstone Schools Sports Partnership. So far, the children have competed against other Ealing schools in a number of different sporting events.

With more events lined up for 2022; New Aged Curling, Hybrid – Pentathlon Gymnastics Festivals, Tennis, Football Cricket and much more.

Lunchtime Zones We are committed to continuing increasing the level of physical and mental activities for all the children during lunchtimes.

Everyday the playground are separated into different play zones offering a wide variety of activities to support every child's interests. “ I really enjoy playing with the Giant connect 4 ”

The Elms sports in school Helping to ensure every child is active at lunch time. Specialist coaches from The Elms come In to support the lunch time staff run the activates for the children. “ Its been fun having coach Derick teaching me new football skills.”

Healthy Lifestyles Week 13 th -17 th June 2022 During the Summer Term, We will be holding our annual Healthy Lifestyles week. Where the children can sample a wide range of sports and fitness activities and rounding off the amazing week with Sports Day. Workshops all the children got to try Morris dancing, Circus skills, Tai Chi, Steel Pan playing, Martial Arts, Yoga, Cricket, South American dance and Olympic dance.

It will be a fun, filled week that the children will enjoy and they learn how to live a healthy lifestyle.
