City announces retirement of Rainsville Police Chief

RAINSVILLE, Ala. — The City of Rainsville announced Monday night at their
regularly scheduled city council meeting that Rainsville Police Chief Charles Centers will be stepping down from his position as head of the city’s
police force effective Feb. 2, 2016. “Chief Centers has turned in a retirement request and he will be retiring on Feb. 2, 2016,” Rainsville City Councilman Joey Graham said. “In the near future we will be posting the new job for the police chief and taking internal applicants. At this time we’re going to hold off and not post it this week. We will be posting that in the near future. We wish the best of Chief Centers and hope that he recovers and has a happy retirement.”
Centers was unavailable for comment at press time. The city has not set a firm date to begin the process of finding a replacement for Centers. After an official date is set to begin accepting applications for the position, Rainsville will post an internal job posting for a period of seven days to give existing officers an opportunity to apply for the position. At the end of that seven days, the position will then be opened to accept CONTINUED ON PAGE 2

Today, Friday, Nov. 6 is the last day for candidates to qualify for the 2016 primaries with the Democratic Party or the Republican Party in Alabama. In Alabama, five statewide offices, a U.S. Senate seat and all seven of Alabama’s seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are up for grabs in 2016. Incumbents are seeing little resistance so far, however. As of press time, U.S. Sen.
