the exact words that Pastor Jim Cymbala told Julie Hicks Dabbs over a conference call several weeks ago when finalizing the Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir Event coming to the DeKalb County Schools Coliseum next month.
Almost two years ago, Julie had a burden. She had a burden for revival. The Lord started dealing with Julie about having some type of event in Rainsville that would hopefully spark a revival and do the Lord’s work in this area in hopes

FORT PAYNE, Ala.-- (Full Video on Southern Torch Facebook) Those with a big appetite will soon be getting another food choice. Construction is underway, for a new Fazoli’s restaurant. The restaurant will be located at the former site of Hardee’s at 2609 Gault Avenue North, Fort Payne. Fazoli’s is an American fast-casual restaurant chain headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky. Fazoli’s specializes in ItalianAmerican cuisine. As of November 2021, there were 220 Fazoli’s located nationwide. The Fort Payne restaurant will feature pizza, subs, pasta, salads, and of course their famous breadsticks. “I remember being about 10 or 11 years old the first time I ate at a Fazoli’s

and I loved the breadsticks” stated one of new owners, Dallas Poe. “The closest Fazoli’s from here is in Chattanooga and I always made it a point to eat there.” “I thought Fort Payne could use an Italian restaurant and it would be good for the City” continued Poe. Poe plans to bring in 40 to 50 new jobs to the area with the opening of Fazoli’s. The restaurant is scheduled to be open in early April. Crews are already training to provide the best service imaginable. The restaurant will feature an eat-in dining room that will seat up to seventy-five people, and a drive-thru for those wanting to get a hot, fresh meal on the go. Poe states that if the line becomes too long at the drive-thru for the first few weeks, breadsticks will be brought to you while you wait. The restaurant will also offer catering for any size event.

SCOTTSBORO, ALA.-- The names of two men who were found shot to death last Thursday have been released by the Scottsboro Police.
The two men were identified as Ryan Phillips 32, and Tommy Keef 47, both of Scottsboro Scottsboro Police responded to a possible double shooting at an apartment in the 300 block of Taylor Street around 7 p.m. on
March 10. Officers found the two men inside the apartment, both dead of gunshot wounds. While the case remains under investigation, it is believed that the two may have shot each other.
are drawn to protect incumbents on both sides of the aisle. The Constitution provides the power of the pencil for legislators to draw their own legislative districts. Seventeen of the 24 Republican incumbents have no opposition in the Republican Primary. Of the seven Republican senators who drew a Republican opponent, they only got an opponent the last day of qualifying and their opposition is token at best. All 24 Republican incumbents will be reelected. If my prognostication is correct, that is a 100% reelectability rate. There are only two GOP incumbents that were first thought to have viable opponents. Tom Whatley at first blush was rumored to have a race. However, polling and fundraising reveals he will win easily. The only interesting race may be in the Huntsville area where incumbent Tom Butler is being challenged by Bill Holtzclaw, who previously served in that senate seat. The rule of incumbency also prevails on the Democratic side of the aisle. There is only one Democratic seat open. Priscilla Dunn holds the post in name only. She has never attended a senate day in Montgomery for this entire quadrennium. The Senate has in essence been operating with 34 senators. In actuality, the Democrats have only seven senate seats. There are 150,000 residents of Jefferson County who have had no voice or vote in the Alabama Senate for four years. There are two Democratic House members vying to fill this seat, Merrika Coleman and Louise Alexander. Ms. Coleman is favored
to win this open senate seat. The cadre of leadership on the Democratic side will return, including powers Bobby Singleton, Rodger Smitherman, and Vivian Figures. Hank Sanders will return to represent Selma and the Black Belt after a four-year sabbatical. His daughter was in the seat this last quadrennium. The entire leadership of the Republican led senate will return unopposed, including Greg Reed, Jabo Waggoner, Clay Scofield, Arthur Orr, Greg Albritton, Steve Livingston, Gerald Allen, and especially Clyde Chambliss. They will be joined by a superstar freshman class, who will become even more powerful. This class of leaders includes Will Barfoot, Garlan Gudger, April Weaver, Sam Givhan, Donnie Chesteen and a trio contingency of Baldwin/ Mobile senators Chris Elliott, Jack Williams, and David Sessions. Another member of this sterling class, Dan Roberts of Jefferson, has an opponent but will be reelected. The three open Republican seats and one Democratic open seat will give us some interesting senate races to follow. One of, if not the most important ingredients which creates the power of incumbency, is the almighty campaign dollar. Money is the mother’s milk of politics. Most of this campaign money comes from Special Interest Political Action Committees. Ninety percent of those special interest dollars goes to incumbents. Thus, over 90% of Alabama state senators are reelected.

Being an incumbent state senator in Alabama is like owning that seat. The level of reelectability odds is probably better than that of an incumbent congressman, which is about the same as being elected to a seat in the Russian Communist Politburo. Being a freshman state senator in Alabama is a more powerful position than being a freshman U.S. congressman. Especially if you want to affect public policy. Many times, a 50year old, successful person, who is interested in seeking a representative role will approach me and seek my advice about running for either a state senate seat or an open congressional seat. I will quickly advise them that as a state senator you are one of 35 and you immediately have an impact on your first year as a state senator. However, if you win a congressional seat, you are one of 435 and because of the seniority system it will be 15 years before they know your name in Washington and 25 years before you are chairman of a committee and then it is time to retire. In the 35-member Alabama Senate, there are 27 Republicans and 8 Democrats – a pretty super majority for the GOP. Twenty-four of the twenty-seven senate Republicans are running for reelection. Republicans Jimmy Holley, Del Marsh and Jim McClendon are retiring. These seats will be filled by another Republican. Therefore, when the senate organizes next January the 27 to 8 super majority will remain the same. The lines

SCOTTSBORO, Ala.-- A Scottsboro woman is fighting for her life after being shot on Monday night. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) confirmed a Scottsboro Police officer shot his
estranged wife before killing himself. Stephen Miller, 46, shot his estranged wife, Amanda Miller, at a home on Berry Road in Scottsboro. Officers received reports of shots fired shortly after 8:50 p.m. on March 14. Miller was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at the home. Amanda Miller
is currently in critical condition. ALEA confirmed that Miller was on leave from the Scottsboro Police Department at the time of the incident. The ALEA State Bureau of Investigations is handling the investigation.

FORT PAYNE, ALA.-- The DeKalb County Council on Aging released the following statement regarding Medicare Appeals that will be beneficial to our senior audience. There are two types of Original Medicare health appeals. The first type is a post-service standard appeal. This is an appeal you file if you already received a health care service or item and your Medicare Summary Notices (MSN) indicates that Medicare did not pay for the service you received. The second type of appeal is ending care expedited appeal. This is filed if your care from a hospital, skilled nursing facility (SNF), comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facility
(CORF), hospice, or home health agency is about to end. There is also a Medicare Advantage appeal. If your Medicare Advantage plan denies a health service or item before or after you received it, you can appeal to ask your plan to reconsider its decision. If you need care right away, you can file a fast-track (expedited) request. If your plan approves your request to expedite, it should issue a decision within 72 hours. You can also file an appeal if you receive care from a hospital, skilled nursing facility (SNF), comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facility (CORF), hospice, or home health agency and are told that your Medicare Advantage plan will no longer pay for your care. If your Medicare Part D prescription
drug plan won’t cover a drug you need, you should file an appeal to ask your Part D plan to reconsider its coverage decision. Common reasons for appealing are: The drug you need is not on your plan’s list of covered drugs (formulary). Your drug plan only covers a limited amount of the drug you need (quantity limits). Your plan wants you to try other drugs first (Step therapy). You must get special permission from the plan in advance before it will cover your drug (prior authorization). Your plan is charging more for your drug than for similar drugs on its formulary. DEKALB COUNTY, Ala.-- As the days get longer and temperatures get warmer, people begin to start spring cleaning around their homes. Each year, the DeKalb County Commission sponsors a “Spring Cleaning” event in hopes of decreasing litter in DeKalb County. According to Roger Byrd with DeKalb County Solid Waste Management, the 2022 Clean-Up
Campaign for DeKalb County residents will begin on Wednesday, April 13, at 8 a.m. The Republic Services Sand Valley Landfill will have dumpsters open, to the public Wednesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the following weeks: April 13- 16, April 20-23, and April 27-30. The Sand Valley Landfill is providing this service to DeKalb County at no cost. Items that are considered hazardous waste, will not be accepted at the landfill. These items include
batteries, tires, or cans of liquid paint. Rainsville Mayor Rodger Lingerfelt stated at the last meeting of the Rainsville City Council, that dumpsters would be available for residents beginning May 2- May 28. Times will be Monday through Friday from 7 am-6 pm and on Saturday from 10 am-6 pm. Dumpsters will be located behind the City Workshop. The City of Fort Payne is considering hosting a clean up drive but dates are not determined.

Stolen Gun Reported out of Florida Found

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — In the month of February, a firearm that had been reported stolen out of Florida was recovered and three other firearms were seized. There were 21 arrests made on drug-related charges thanks to all the hard-working guys and girls with The DeKalb County Deputies, Criminal Interdiction and Narcotics Unit, Pardon and Paroles, DHR, and Officers with Crossville, Fyffe, Powell, Ider, and Collinsville Police Departments. On Tuesday, February 1st, Officers with Crossville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 68 in the Crossville city limits. Mary Ann Walling (52 of Rock Springs, Ga) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, DUI (controlled substance), Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Wednesday, February 2nd, Agents with the DeKalb County Criminal Interdiction and Narcotics Unit attempted to conduct a traffic stop near County Road 400, on Al Hwy 75, with the vehicle fleeing to a residence off of County Road 72 near the Fyffe/Grove Oak area. When the driver stopped, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by Law Enforcement. Bradley Thomas Randolph (38 of Fyffe) was charged with Attempting to Elude Police, Resisting Arrest, and Failure to Appear (x3). Fyffe Police Department and the DeKalb County Deputies assisted with
this stop. On Friday, February 4th, DeKalb County Deputies assisted Pardon and Paroles with a home check at a residence on County Road 372 in Flat Rock. While there, deputies found methamphetamine, kratom, fentanyl, and drug paraphernalia. Dallas Micala Noles (25 of Flat Rock) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x4), Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Illegal Possession of Prescription Drugs. Chandler Ashlin Mitch Palmer (30 of Flat Rock) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x4), Illegal Possession of Prescription Drugs, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Probation Violation. Narcotics Agents also assisted with this case. On Tuesday, February 8th, DeKalb County Deputies attempted a traffic stop on Cornerstone Drive in Henagar charging James Carson Lambert (59 of Henagar) with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Resisting Arrest. During the stop, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were found within the vehicle. DHR was called due to an underage child being in the vehicle with Lambert. Narcotics Agents also assisted with this stop. On Tuesday, February 8th, Officers with Powell Police Department conducted a traffic stop on County Road 27 in Sylvania, finding the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Rebecca Lynn Cantrell (46 of Henagar) was charged with Unlawful Possession of
Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to Appear (x2). Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Wednesday, February 9th, DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 68 in Crossville finding the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Tammy Diana Pointer (46 of Boaz) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substances and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Thursday, February 10th, DeKalb County Deputies, along with Narcotics Agents, conducted a traffic stop on Rainbow Ave in the Powell area, finding the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. Marty Alan Outlaw (58 of Fyffe) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd, and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
On Saturday, February 12th, Officers with Ider Police Department conducted a traffic stop near County Road 141 and Hwy 117 in Ider, finding the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Michael Alan Thomas (62 of Woodville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Resisting Arrest, and Disorderly Conduct. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Sunday, February 13th, DeKalb County Deputies received a call asking for a good check at a
residence on County Road 1001 in Valley Head. When Deputies arrived and spoke with Fabian Ray Burrage (41 of Valley Head), they found him to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Burrage was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Monday, February 14th, DeKalb County Deputies, along with Officers with Collinsville Police Department, conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 68 in Collinsville. During a search, approximately 7 grams of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a firearm were found in the vehicle. Shannon Ray Boyd (49 of Colorado Springs, Co) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Carrying Concealed Weapon. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Wednesday, February 16th, Officers with Ider Police Department went to a residence on County Road 788 to follow up on a call they had received. When Officers arrived, Ruth Love Smith (52 of Ider) came to the door. Officers were then advised Smith had outstanding warrants. As Smith was taken into custody, officers found her to be in possession of methamphetamine and Oxycodone. Smith was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance (x2), Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Failure to Appear (x4). Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Wednesday,
February 23rd, DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Hwy 35 in Fort Payne finding the driver to be in possession of methamphetamine. Guadalupe Jose Godinez (50 of Dutton) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Thursday, February 24th, DeKalb County Deputies and Inmates went to a residence on County Road 44 in Fort Payne, on a court-ordered move-out. While there, deputies found methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Anthony Charles Renfroe (42 of Fyffe) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Saturday, February 26th, DeKalb County Deputies responded to a call about a firearm being discharged at a residence on County Road 283 in Collinsville. When Deputies arrived, they noticed methamphetamine, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia in the home. Ernest Boyette Gibson, Jr (62 of Collinsville) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. On Sunday, February 27th, Narcotics Agents conducted a traffic stop on US 11 and Hwy 117 in Valley Head. During a search, marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and
three firearms were seized. One firearm was found to have been stolen out of Florida. Darin Demetrius Turner (20 of Memphis, Tn) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Pistol, Concealed. Carlos Emmanuel Dixon, Jr (20 of Lawrenceville, Ga) and Davontee Bobby McCrae (20 of Miami, Fl) were charged with Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 2nd, Unlawful Possession of drug Paraphernalia, Receiving Stolen Property 2nd and Pistol Concealed w/o Permit. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. Also, on Sunday, DeKalb County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on County Road 89 and County Road 749 in Fort Payne. During the stop, methamphetamine and prescription medication was found. Kenneth James Gordon (64 of Valley Head) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance and Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Christy Lynn Williams (33 of Valley Head) was charged with Illegal Possession of Prescription Drugs. Narcotics Agents were called to assist. Again, on Sunday, DeKalb County Deputies made a traffic stop on Hwy 75 in Henagar finding methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Mikel Dewayne Terrell (44 of Henagar) was charged with Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Unlawful Possession of Controlled Substance, and Failure to Appear (x3). FORT PAYNE, ALA.-- On Friday, Police arrested a Fort Payne High School teacher after he allegedly hired someone from Huntsville to drive to Fort Payne for sex, according to the DeKalb County Sheriffs Office. Kenneth Ronald Zaremba III, 37, was arrested Friday and booked into the DeKalb
County Detention Center on a $100,000 bond. Zaremba was charged with one count of solicitation of a prostitute and one count of engaging in prostitution. Zaremba taught Biology at Fort Payne High School. According to the Fort Payne Board of Education, Zaremba submitted his resignation effective May 2002 and will be placed on administrative leave until that resignation
goes into effect. “This is a fantastic job by our investigators. Adults that interact with our young people need to be held to the highest standard” stated DeKalb County Sheriff, Nick Welden. “This case is also a good example of our investigators adapting themselves to the modern, connected world and utilizing the latest technology to make this case” Sheriff Welden concluded.

FORT PAYNE, Ala. — A Rainbow City man is currently in the DeKalb County Detention Center after being arrested with a large amount of marijuana and methamphetamine in Kilpatrick last night (Tuesday, March 14, 2022). At approximately 8:30 pm, a DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Interdiction Agent conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Highways 168 and 68. During the course of the stop, it was found that one of the subjects had outstanding warrants. Dementrius Lavon Terry (37 of Rainbow City) was also found to
be in possession of approximately 248 grams of marijuana at the time of his arrest. Terry was arrested on a charge of Unlawful Possession of Marijuana 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and the existing warrant for Failure to Appear. After arriving at the DeKalb County Detention Center, Terry was found to be in possession of 15 grams of methamphetamine and 14 additional grams of marijuana. The subject received additional charges of Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd Degree and Possession of Methamphetamine
with Intent to Distribute. The DeKalb County Narcotics Unit assisted with the case. Terry remains in the DeKalb County Detention Center on a $22,078 bond. DeKalb County Sheriff Nick Welden said of the incident: “I’m glad we were able to stop this subject from bringing this into the county. That’s why we have these specialized units. One good traffic stop can put a drug dealer out of business.” “These guys have a real passion for what they do, and don’t mind putting in late hours to put these guys out of business and in our jail,” he said.

MONTGOMERY, ALA.-- On Thursday, Governor Kay Ivey signed House Bill 272, known as the Constitutional Carry Bill, into law, defending Alabamian’s Second Amendment rights. HB 282, sponsored by Rep. Shane Stringer (R-HD
102), revises certain restrictions regarding the carrying or possession of a pistol and eliminates the requirement of a pistol permit in order to carry a concealed pistol. This makes Alabama the 22nd state in the nation to do so. “Unlike states who are doing everything in their power to make it harder for
law-abiding citizens, Alabama is reaffirming our commitment to defending our Second Amendment rights” stated Governor Ivey. “I have always stood up for the rights of law-abiding gun owners, and I am proud to do that again today.” The law will go into effect on January 1, 2023.

She began to get discouraged and thought it just couldn’t be done. Talking with a friend one day out of the blue, she was sharing her feelings that she just knew the Lord wanted Pastor Cymbala to come to speak in Rainsville. The friend said, “well I know someone that has Pastor Cymbala’s personal cell phone number if you want it.” Stunned, Julie said, “Well, can you get it for me?” A few days later, Julie had his phone number. Now, what to do with it? Julie called the number, the phone rang, no answer. She hung up the phone without leaving a message. Days rocked on, and after deciding Pastor Cymbala would never call back a number he didn’t recognize, Julie tried again. This time, she left a heartfelt message that only the Lord himself gave to her. On a Friday morning, Julie’s phone rings. She looks, Pastor Jim Cymbala, from The Brooklyn Tabernacle, is calling her. From the location, the sound equipment, the promotions and just getting them here in general, it’s all been a God thing from the beginning. They had a chance to go to Huntsville, or the largest church in Nashville, or really anywhere they wanted to.
