“And unto the angel of the Church in Smyrna write; These things saith the first and the last, which was dead, and is alive,” Revelation 2:8.

Political coups come swift and sudden. A flourish of weapons, a count of who controls whom, and the former leader may just as well take the next plane out. There are some countries right now which have counted more coups than years of independence!

During a recent stay in a country embattled by political upheaval, I observed how the military moved with speed to topple the civilian government.

A rumble of tanks, a crackle or two of gunfire, and that was that.

God’s coup against Satan lasted three days. Though the planning had begun with time itself, the execution of the plan had the swiftness of a well-planned military takeover.

Satan’s topple from power came at the very moment when all appeared well for him. He had plotted cunningly. Even Christ’s disciples had forsaken Him and fled. Political and religious leaders performed on cue. Not even Pilate, convinced of Jesus’ innocence, could hold off His execution. With Jesus in the grave, the devil had reason to think that he had achieved victory at last.

But all had not gone just as he might have wished. The weight of sin had not turned Jesus from the agreed plan. Even on the cross, Jesus had offered paradise to a dying thief. In one swift blow the veil of the temple was rent, showing that God had marked the moment of Christ’s death.

Once before, Satan had argued over the body of Moses, one of God’s saints.

Only the rebuke of the Lord Himself had released Moses. Now he claimed the right to keep Jesus in the tomb. If Jesus had died for sin and sinners, then He must continue to pay the price.

But death cannot hold the sinless. Jesus rose as He had died, the Innocent One. The battle ended in victory for Christ. On Friday the death of Christ, the first salvation act on that memorable weekend, set in place a door of hope for humanity. On Sunday the second act, the Resurrection, flung that door open.

The righteousness we receive from Christ turns hope into reality. In His sinlessness He led the way out of death. In His sinlessness we will follow on to everlasting life.

In the Southern Union, it is our intention to drive home the fact that the value of people or the estimate God places upon them is revealed in the Cross of Calvary. God’s mercy and unspeakable regard for humanity have not ceased.

His love will never lose its earthward direction. His watchcare enshrouds every household and encircles every individual. Those three days which showcased God’s swift rescue of humans provide confidence that our mission of reaching the world will be a success.

A

dventHealth’s brand promise is to help people feel whole.

Extending the healing ministry of Christ encompasses more than just medical care; it involves meeting people where they are, supporting them not only in times of illness, but throughout every aspect of their lives.

Guided by its mission and commitment to the whole health of the community and neighbors, AdventHealth works closely with many local organizations to make this a reality. In the case of the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, the community is invited to experience the transformative healing of the arts, such as through the STROKESTRA® program and the AdventHealth School of the Arts at the Dr. Phillips Center.

The STROKESTRA® program, in collaboration with the Dr. Phillips Center and the world-renowned Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, through accessibility and patient-led recovery, fosters healing through music to stroke survivors.

AdventHealth clinicians and musicians from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as local musicians, collaborate to lift spirits and provide healing through music and physical therapy. “A lot of people don’t understand what we went through. It’s like we are in a land of forgotten,” a participant shared with the arts center. “But you all didn’t look at us like we had a stroke, and gave us a chance. You made us feel like humans again — like people. Thank you for believing in us and making us believe in ourselves again.”

Similarly, the AdventHealth School of the Arts at the Dr. Phillips Center helps its students develop as artists and grow their talents. AdventHealth has also committed to providing scholarships, especially to the youth in the community, to keep them feeling whole.

All partnerships align at the intersection of health and AdventHealth’s mission of wholeness and restoration.

They are able to bring faith-based health care to community members by making health care accessible in unique and appealing ways. AdventHealth then has the opportunity to invite and educate more people to feel whole. “The best medical care of all is that which influences people to make small but important daily

choices to place their lives on a trajectory of good health. In order to be able to influence those choices, the AdventHealth brand must be trusted and it must be present,” said Trish Edris, senior vice president and chief innovation and partnerships officer for AdventHealth Central Florida Division.

To establish brand trust, AdventHealth implements strategic initiatives and campaigns in collaboration with its partners.

For instance, the partnership with the Orlando Magic, which has spanned more than 35 years, has made AdventHealth the official health care provider for the players. This partnership includes the Magic Fit Program, an initiative designed to educate both children and adults on healthy living, with a focus on nutrition and exercise. Additionally, they collaborate with the NBA team and Habitat for Humanity to construct homes for community members in need.

AdventHealth and the Orlando Magic have also partnered to refurbish more than 20 parks in central Florida to promote healthy habits and encourage children to go outside, play, and exercise.

Not only do they create opportunities to stay active, but also to take part in the same health care experience as the players at the Orlando Magic Training Center, in which community members can see the same clinicians as the pros.

Additionally, at runDisney events that are part of the World of Wellness partnerships and Disney’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, AdventHealth ensures expert care and support for participants. Each year, more than 5,000 medical volunteers from AdventHealth contribute their expertise at races and events, such as runDisney in which they care for more than 168,000 participants, reflecting a broad and meaningful impact that extends far beyond the clinical setting.

This affiliation underscores AdventHealth’s commitment to clinical excellence and innovation. Through collaboration with organizations of similar values of excellence, AdventHealth continuously demonstrates superior patient care, advanced treatments, and cutting-edge technologies. Building on these partnerships, it becomes clear that they are not just about shared initiatives, but about creating meaningful change in their communities.

A great example of this is the book vending machine donation campaign, which is an innovative initiative led by Erik Jones, the NASCAR driver of the No. 43 AdventHealth Toyota Camry XSE, in collaboration with AdventHealth and the Erik Jones Foundation.

This program not only provides students with an engaging platform to foster excitement for reading, but also includes a personal visit from Jones to schools, where he reads to the children.

Jimmie Johnson, seven-time NASCAR champion and owner of Legacy Motor Club, who regularly attends the book donation events and other outreach programs, says, “Whether we’re donating book vending machines to inspire young readers, serving lunch to homeless veterans, or visiting Seventh-day Adventist schools to share our stories and faith, these initiatives reflect the heart of what this partnership is about. It’s powerful to see a health care organization not only support our team on race day, but also

Johnson also shared his thoughts on his recent experience at the International Pathfinder Camporee in Gillette, Wyoming, and partnership with AdventHealth again for a NASCAR activation to reach out to Adventist youth.

“We partnered with AdventHealth to create a NASCAR experience that brought the energy of the sport to thousands of young people. What an amazing way to connect faith, community, and purpose! These moments remind me that this partnership is about so much more than racing — it’s about making a lasting impact,” said Johnson.

Anna Lowman, director of strategic partnerships overseeing the NASCAR partnership at AdventHealth East Florida Division, echoed the sentiment of the purpose of these partnerships and what makes them so special. “Partnerships are more than just a logo on a jersey or race car — they’re a reflection of our mission in motion. Every collaboration is an opportunity to amplify our commitment to extending the healing ministry of Christ. These partnerships help raise awareness for our brand; position faith-based, whole-person care as the

most effective form of medicine; and open new access points for community outreach, education, and philanthropy.”

With Christ at the center, AdventHealth creates opportunities for worship and reverence. Audrey Gregory, Ph.D., R.N., senior executive vice president and CEO for AdventHealth’s Multi-Division Delivery Network, gave an example of this from a recent NASACR race: “Our presence in NASCAR reflects an intentional choice to

go into the heart of our communities. In a sport where faith is honored with a nationally televised invocation before each race, we’re proud that often an AdventHealth ministry leader — rooted in Seventh-day Adventist tradition — leads that sacred moment,” said Gregory. “In 2025, close to 150,000 attendees in the speedway and approximately 9 million watching at home, bowed their heads together for a nationally televised invocation led by an AdventHealth vice president of mission and ministry.”

Through these thoughtfully chosen collaborations, AdventHealth reaches individuals and communities in innovative ways, breaking down barriers to care, and opening new doors for health, hope, and connection. Celebrating Emerging Women Leaders in Adventist Higher Education

F

or many women at Seventh-day Adventist universities, pursuing a faith-based education is both a mission and a financial challenge. With annual tuition averaging $21,722, students — especially those from singleincome or first-generation households — often face steep financial hurdles.

Many rely on loans, part-time jobs, and limited aid while preparing for careers in ministry, education, and healthcare — fields that often offer modest salaries.

Yet, these women persevere with resilience, purpose, and a commitment to service. The Southern Union Conference Women’s Ministries Department proudly celebrates their strength through the Emerging Women Leaders Scholarship Award.

The Emerging Women Leaders Scholarship Award is designed to support women attending or planning to attend one of the three educational institutions within the Southern Union Conference of Seventh-day Adven-

The Postman and the Piano

D

avid Woodie, bi-vocational pastor of Valley Hill Baptist Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina, is also a postal worker and piano technician. Known for preaching “with one tongue and 10 fingers,” Woodie had long prayed for a Baldwin L grand piano for his church’s music ministry.

Pam Hughes, a retired accountant and musician from Fletcher, North Carolina, owned a Baldwin L she had used in ministry for 25 years. Feeling convicted that Jesus is coming soon, she decided to dedicate the piano to overseas missions.

Hughes began praying for God to bring a buyer to her door.

Meanwhile, after a near-purchase fell through in Atlanta, Georgia, Woodie trusted that God had something better.

Days later, while delivering mail, he needed a signature at Hughes’ home — his first certified delivery there. Hughes, newly retired, was home. As she opened the door, Woodie glimpsed a grand piano and asked, “Is that a Baldwin L?” “Yes,” she said, surprised he recognized it with the fallboard closed.

“I’m looking for a Baldwin L,” replied Woodie.

“It’s for sale,” said Hughes, moved by the encounter. She explained her intent to use the proceeds to fund GodPods — solar-powered audio players sharing the Gospel in closed countries.

The two prayed together and agreed to seek God’s will overnight.

Later, Hughes learned from Adventist World Radio (AWR) that the project would require a minimum of 2,000 GodPods at $40 each — an $80,000

goal. Though daunting, they prayed boldly, believing God could provide (Psalm 50:10).

Inspired, Hughes proposed a benefit concert at her Adventist Church in Fletcher. Woodie offered to host a second at his Baptist church the next day. Friends, musicians, and media partners joined in.

Jeff Wilson, retired AWR representative, stepped in to help. Radio stations aired promos, including “1 grand piano + 2 praying pianists + GOD + our radio listeners = $80,000 for 2,000 GodPods.”

Concerts at both churches drew enthusiastic crowds on May 3 and 4, 2025. Music included young and seasoned performers, choirs, quartets, and a powerful finale of “We Have This

Hope” and “Lift Up the Trumpet,” with a multi-church choir and full instrumentation. As the offering totals were announced, congregations joined in singing the doxology.

The result: $134,694 raised that weekend. As of this writing, more than $142,000 has been received — funding 3,550 GodPods. Hughes believes God is not done yet. Her prayer is now for $800,000 to sponsor 20,000 units.

Each GodPod can reach 30 to 50 people. These “little preachers” will share Jesus in places missionaries cannot go.

And in Hendersonville, Woodie continues preaching — with one tongue and 10 fingers.

n a world marked by uncertainty and being overextended, Carolina Camp Meeting 2025 offered a much-needed “vacation for the soul.” Set beside scenic Lake Junaluska, May 23–31, 2025, the gathering drew thousands from across the Carolinas and surrounding states for worship, renewal, and connection.

The theme “Hope Beyond Tomorrow” resonated deeply following a year of restoration after Hurricane Helene damaged the grounds. The refreshed setting symbolized God’s redemptive power and enduring presence.

Attendees found both relaxation and revival through lakeside strolls, uplifting worship, and family fellowship.

Mornings began with prayer walks and

reflection, while Stuart Auditorium came alive with dynamic preaching.

Evangelist Shawn Boonstra bookended the week with messages on prophecy and redemption. Jerry Page, pastor and former ministerial secretary for the General Conference, inspired evening worship with calls to deeper faith and joyful mission. Roy Gane, Ph.D., opened Scripture each morning with clarity and grace.

Daily seminars offered practical tools for Christian living. Rick and Cindy Mercer shared a moving testimony of prayer and marital healing. Brad Cauley addressed tough cultural questions with biblical conviction, and Roman Pawlak, Ph.D., debunked common dietary myths, encouraging health stewardship.

Families found rich spiritual and social programming for every age group.

Children participated in themed activities such as “Castles and Crowns” and a throne room experience, culminating in a Thursday night performance. Juniors and earliteens enjoyed outdoor worship and bonding, while youth joined rafting adventures and campfire discussions.

Young adults connected through small groups, service, and testimonies of spiritual transformation.

Friday morning’s Run4Life 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run blended fun and purpose. While winners Aidan Kimbrl and Matthew Wickham crossed the finish line, the event reminded participants that in the race of faith (Hebrews 12:1-2), endurance matters most.

Additional highlights included a bluegrass sing-along, a Sabbath concert by Matt and Josie Minikus, and joyful giving to the Maranatha $10 Church offer-

ing, teaching children their spare change could help build churches worldwide.

In the Harrell Center, women’s ministries, literature evangelism, and Pathway to Health ministries offered connection and inspiration. Conversations turned into prayer circles, and booth visits led to new mission commitments.

Friday evening’s Anointing Service created sacred space for healing. Many called it the most meaningful moment of the week, a time to surrender burdens and receive Christ’s touch.

Sabbath celebrations included the commissioning of Beth Grissom as women’s and prayer ministries director for the Carolina Conference, the Pathfinder and Adventurer Parade, and music that filled the campgrounds with joy.

As the sun set and families prepared to return home, one truth remained: Camp Meeting 2025 wasn’t just a vacation. It was a divine appointment — an invitation to embrace hope and live every tomorrow anchored in Jesus.

Florida Conference Churches Turn Resurrection Message into Missional Action

U

nder the Pentecost 2025 initiative, churches across Florida Conference engaged in wide-reaching evangelistic efforts during the spring and Easter seasons. For Florida churches, Easter is more than a holiday — it’s an opportunity to proclaim a risen and soon-coming Savior.

Rolando Rodriguez, pastor at Brandon Church near Tampa, Fla., shared how the members spent several months preparing for evangelism. Over Easter weekend, they hosted Ben Shurtliff, pastor at Port Charlotte, Fla., resulting in 13 baptisms on Easter Sabbath. Four additional individuals were baptized during the following two weekends. “Seventeen souls said yes to Jesus in three weeks,” said Rodriguez.

New Generation Church in North Miami, Fla., led by pastor Ruben Joseph, conducted evangelistic meetings over several weekends. As a result, nine individuals were baptized,

and one joined by profession of faith — 10 new believers welcomed into the church family.

On Florida’s Space Coast, Titusville, Fla., Church, pastored by Dan Schiffbauer, hosted Roger Hernandez, Southern Union ministerial and evangelism director, for a weeklong series titled “We All Have Hope.” Fourteen individuals were baptized on May 3, 2025, with three more joining on subsequent weekends, bringing the total to 17 baptisms.

“The Risen Experience,” a two-mile live dramatization of the death and resurrection of Jesus, brought the Gospel story to life for 5,250 attendees on April 19, 2025. The event was hosted by Forest Lake Academy and Forest Lake Church, and sponsored by several area churches. More than 1,000 volunteers contributed to the immersive outreach. Alex Harter, pastor at Spring Meadows Church, shared how the event led to de-

cisions for baptism, as well as family and marital reconciliations.

Spanish-language ministries also conducted a major evangelistic outreach in greater Tampa during the Easter season.

Sixteen churches participated, along with multiple guest speakers. These efforts resulted in 46 baptisms.

These stories are just a glimpse of what God is doing across Florida Conference. These efforts, and the decisions made for Christ, reflect what many in Florida Conference believe: There is no better way to remember and celebrate the events of the cross and resurrection than by proclaiming the Good News of salvation in Christ.

vationX competitions hosted at their respective schools. The top teams received invitations to compete in the Conference-wide event. Each team was required to develop a working prototype, a compelling pitch deck, and a one-page business plan.

“I was truly amazed by the creativity and passion of the next generation,” said Mark Peterson, AdventHealth IT business relationship manager.

“Learning about what the students care about and seeing their innovative projects to support their causes was incredibly rewarding. It was a privilege to support their growth as future leaders and innovators.”

These student innovators applied skills gained through the Office of Education’s Innovation Program, which cultivates Christian innovators by teaching design thinking, scrum, and the Lean Startup Method. Students also use advanced tools such as 3D printing, CAD, app development, and artificial intelligence.

Frank Runnels, Florida Conference vice president for education, reflects on the Bible’s calling to be like the Father in Heaven, and adds, “When children create, they are most like the Creator. InnovationX empowers our students to move beyond the obvious and engage with the unknown, where imagination and purpose intersect.”

InnovationX is structured into two divisions, the Discovery Division for first-year participants and the Explorer Division for multi-year innovators. Students compete at middle and high school levels across three categories: STEM+C Research (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computing), Social Innovation, and Entrepreneurship — demonstrating their creativity, technical skill, and commitment to solving meaningful problems.

Now in its fifth year, InnovationX is a flagship program of the Office of Education’s Innovation Initiative, challenging students in grades 6–12 to develop authentic, real-world solutions using cutting-edge technologies and innovation frameworks.

This year’s top honor went to a team of seventh-graders from West Palm Beach Junior Academy: Ana Mendieta, Christy Dumerlus, and Uzzyah Moise. The trio was inspired by the sudden loss of their teacher, Lisa Ang, who died from a heart attack. In response, they developed a wearable heart monitor prototype — an emotionally driven and technically impressive solution that captured the spirit of InnovationX. “Innovation hearkens back to the roots of Adventist education, a belief in the inherent dignity of the individual,” said Marliano Smith, principal of West Palm Beach Junior Academy. “In our schools, we must provide the opportunity for our students to pursue their God-given interests by providing a means where learning can be practically applied, in a way unique to each student, in honor of their Creator.”

Personal Ministries Launches “Mission Possible” Youth Evangelism

E

arlier this year, the Georgia-Cumberland Conference Personal Ministries Department launched their new program, Mission Possible. This program was developed to encourage and teach the principles of friendship evangelism. While this program is primarily built for children, it can help anyone who is interested in the basics of getting to know people in your community.

“Mission Possible is a kindness initiative where we’re encouraging all to share Jesus,” said Mellisa Hoffman, personal ministries secretary. “I think people want to share Jesus, but they don’t always know how. Especially those brought up in the Church — they may know how to give out a pamphlet for a last-days seminar or think they have to do something big, but Jesus never said that. He wants us to go out and share His love with others. Churches do a great job of telling people that they need to do it, but they don’t often teach us how.”

This teaching aspect is where Mission Possible comes in. Each week on Sabbath, youth are given their “mission” for the week. Some of the missions include postal worker appreciation, neighborhood prayer walk, partner with a church ministry, making flower bouquets for shut-ins, and many more. The program is also rewards-based, so as youth complete missions, they increase their “security clearance” and earn small prizes for progressing. As youth participate, their families naturally become a part of sharing Jesus as well.

Brittany Galbraith, a mother of three homeschoolers from the Standifer Gap Church, said that she’s grateful for the long-term effects of her children taking part in the program.

“As a busy mom, I could find ways for our kids to share Jesus, but to be honest

I was quite stumped,” says Galbraith. “I was overwhelmed at the thought of witnesses because I thought it meant sharing a book or a tract, giving Bible studies, or having a conversation about biblical truths. I was not in a place where I felt confident to be that kind of instrument for the Lord. What I have appreciated about Mission Possible is that each week we’re given a card with a mission or an idea. And, it’s something simple that my kids can do or what I can do.”

Galbraith and her children started out

sharing with family or friends who needed encouragement, which was a blessing, but Galbraith felt challenged to reach out to people they don’t know. One of her children asked if they could go and share with one of their neighbors. Galbraith was nervous at the prospect since they didn’t really know or interact with their neighbors very often, so this was outside of her comfort zone. But, the children started sharing with their neighbors and this developed a relationship.

“Over time, we’ve built relationships with our neighbors and have conversations about Jesus. We’ve been able to pray with them in their home. We’ve gotten to know their health challenges, and have shared them with our church prayer team.

So, through Mission Possible, it’s helped me realize that witnessing for Jesus is in the simple acts of everyday kindness.”

Cohutta Springs Youth Camp Celebrates 45 Years

T

his summer Cohutta Springs celebrated its 45th year of campfires, water activities, and learning about Jesus at summer camp. Every year, about 1,200 to 1,400 campers go to Cohutta Springs Youth Camp to make friends, enjoy summer activities, and be enriched by the Christ-centered atmosphere.

“A big part of the Youth Ministries program at the Georgia-Cumberland Conference has been summer camp ministries at Cohutta Springs Youth Camp,” said Jonathan Montes, Georgia-Cumberland youth ministries director. “Everything we do at camp is directed toward showing and sharing the Gospel to the kids who come to camp. Camp is the perfect environment to encounter the love of God.” Montes shares that the camp’s mission is to build the Kingdom by calling young people to a lasting relationship with their Lord and Savior. Through this unique evangelism, thousands of young people have made the decision to give their lives

to Jesus. Many of those young adults continue to strengthen their walk as they continue in the ministry by going from camper to camp staff.

“Being a camper at Cohutta Springs Youth Camp impacted me spiritually in

so many ways,” said Andrew Korp, former Cohutta camp staff member who now serves as an intern pastor for Duluth, Ga., Church. “I saw Jesus lay down his life for me in the plays, and I was also baptized in the lake. It led me to want to give back, and that’s why I became a camp staff. I wanted to be a part of kids giving their lives to Jesus, and allow His love to shine through me.”

To celebrate 45 years, the camp is holding their first alumni family camp, where former staff can re-join the fun and be ministered to as they ministered to others while they worked at camp.

Montes, who was also a camper turned staff and then turned director, knows how great a milestone this is.“Reaching the 45 year milestone speaks to the dedication of the Georgia-Cumberland Conference to reaching young people by creating a caring community connected to Christ through wholesome activities, nature, and relationships.”

Bass Memorial Hosts Spirit-Filled 2025 Gulf States Camp Meeting: “Forward in Faith”

W

ith the theme “Forward in Faith,” the 2025 Gulf States Conference Camp Meeting drew members from across Alabama, Mississippi, and the Florida panhandle to the peaceful grounds of Bass Memorial Academy, May 28-31. The gathering served as a time of spiritual renewal, fellowship, and inspiration for all ages.

“We have nothing to fear for the future, except as we shall forget the way the Lord has led us,” said Brian Danese, Gulf States Conference president, quoting Testimonies to Ministers, p. 31, in his opening message. “This year’s Camp Meeting reminds us that our path forward is anchored in God’s proven faithfulness.”

Throughout the week, dynamic keynote speakers David Long, Southern Union Conference director for stewardship, personal ministries, Sabbath School, prayer ministries, and prison ministries, and Roy Ice, host of the Lifestyle TV series and speaker/director for Faith for Today, delivered powerful sermons that challenged and encouraged attendees. Long, with his series on prayer and the church triumphant, stirred hearts to seek spiritual awakening. Ice resonated deeply with attendees of all ages, calling the church to practical love and authentic Christian living in an increasingly disconnected world.

The seminar tracks featured health presentations at Uchee Pines Institute, with Adan Sanchez addressing topics

such as therapeutic fasting and reversing diabetes, while Pablo Piovesan explored brain optimization and cholesterol awareness. The seminars affirmed the Adventist commitment to wholistic well-being.

The early Friday morning 5K Walk/ Run energized the campground as participants came together in a spirit of fellowship and wellness. More than just a race, the event underscored the vital connection between physical well-being and a thriving spiritual life, reminding all that caring for the body honors the Creator.

Children and youth experienced vibrant programs tailored to their spiritual growth and fellowship. From water slides to age-appropriate Bible classes, each child was engaged and nurtured in faith. For young adults, the highlight was hearing from Esteban Santana, pastor of the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Church. His

relevant and heartfelt messages spoke directly to the challenges and aspirations of the rising generation.

Sabbath was marked by joyful worship, deep reflection, and a stirring concert by renowned gospel singer Jennifer LaMountain. Her music offered moments of grace and hope, beautifully capping off a Spirit-filled weekend.

As families packed up and said their goodbyes Sunday morning, a shared sentiment remained: renewed commitment, deeper community, and forward momentum in Christ.

A

ttendees of Kentucky-Tennessee Conference Camp Meeting this year experienced a transformed setting, thanks to several key improvements rolled out across the Highland Academy Campus. The updates included new chairs, six additional cabins, renovated bathroom facilities, and the introduction of a new walking trail.

“After last year’s Camp Meeting, we decided that it was time to make some renovations,” said Brian Milano, pastor and Camp Meeting superintendent. “One of our priorities was the bathhouses. They had been around for decades and needed to be replaced. Our goal was to improve the overall experience for campers.”

Milano, along with Andy Wade, landscape service director at Highland Academy, and Chad Litchfield, a church member at the Highland Church, acted as

In addition to the bathhouse, the team installed six new cabins to replace deteriorating tents. Milano says that the cabins offered a much-improved experience, keeping campers dry, bug-free, and protected from weather.

“A lot of people take vacation time to come to Camp Meeting,” said Milano. “We wanted to make sure they could enjoy it.”

One of the most talked-about additions this year was the Wellness Trail, a new walking path envisioned and directed by Malinda Haley, Conference health ministries director. Built alongside wooded areas on the Highland Academy Campus, the trail is meant to provide a quiet, safe space for attendees who want to jog, walk, or spend time with their family.

“My hope was to create a space where people could step away from the activities of the day and find peace,” said

kentuckytennesseenews Haley. “The [Wellness Trail] puts into practice the knowledge shared in seminars and health talks, nurturing whole-person wellness — mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually.”

The Wellness Trail was made possible through funding from the KentuckyTennessee Conference and numerous individual donations. Ben Copley, ranger at Indian Creek Camp, helped pitch the idea and coordinate logistics. Wade al-

so shaped the trail layout and oversaw features like fencing, signage, landscaping, and a parking area. Volunteers, including academy students, local pastors, and families, contributed labor to help complete the trail in time for this year’s Camp Meeting.

Milano said the improvements reflect the Conference’s commitment to the Camp Meeting experience.

“Good administration means caring

about people’s time here,” said Milano.

“If they leave feeling refreshed and supported, then we’ve done our job.”

For next year, more projects are already in the planning stages, including renovations to the lower bathhouse, upgrades to RV utilities, and construction of a new maintenance facility.

Quiet Ministry of Ann Whitt Reaches Out as God’s Messenger

ore than 50 years ago, a young woman with a bag of books and a mission knocked on the door of a trailer in Tates Creek, Ky. That small act changed the course of a family, and began a friendship that still draws two women together every summer.

Ann Whitt, now retired, spent seven years in the 1970s as a part-time colporteur, selling Christian literature door-to-

door in Kentucky. One afternoon, she followed a boy on a bicycle through a mobile home park. That boy led her to his father, who bought every book she carried. After receiving Bible studies, the entire family, including their daughter, Sandra Tinnin, was baptized.

Today, Tinnin kindly remembers Whitt as the reason she’s a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

“Every year at Camp Meeting, I go up and give her a big hug and thank her,” said Tinnin. “She told me once that as she followed my brother on his bike, the verse, ‘and a little child shall lead them,’ kept coming to her mind. It’s been over 50 years, but I still remember that.”

Whitt said she has not forgotten the encounter either.

“They got every one of my books,” said Whitt. “That’s not common. They read the books and were baptized. I was so touched because these were souls for Christ, and I was grateful to be part of His mission.”

Whitt’s years as a colporteur took her to many communities, including Lexington, Ky., and remote areas of the Appalachia. She often gave away more books than she sold, particularly in low-income communities.

“I didn’t have any education,” said

Whitt, continuing, “but I knew this was one way I could make a difference in someone’s life and share the Gospel.”

For Tinnin, Whitt’s impact changed her life. Her parents’ conversion redirected their lives and those of their children.

She left for Highland Academy to get a Christian education in the fall of 1973 and graduated in 1976.

“My brothers and I have sat around the table and said, ‘Can you imagine what our life would be like if Mama and Daddy had not got converted?’” said Tinnin. “I shudder to think.”

She also sees her grandmother’s prayers as part of the story.

“She never saw our family converted,” said Tinnin, “but I cannot wait to get under the tree of life and hug her, because we’re both going to be crying tears of joy.”

Now in her later years and recovering from a stroke, Whitt remains humbled by her role.

“Every year [Tinnin] comes to me and says, ‘If it wasn’t for you, I would not be in the Church. In Heaven, I want to live right next door to you,’” said Whitt.

“That touches my heart, and I praise God for His faithfulness.”

Lithonia Church Members Pay Off $326K Mortgage

F

irst Lithonia Church in Lithonia, Ga., launched an ambitious mission in August 2022: eliminate the remaining $326,000 on its mortgage in record time. Powered by faith and fueled by generosity, the Lithonia congregation embraced the challenge wholeheartedly.

Church leaders urged members to “dig deep and give generously” — and they did. What began as a daunting financial goal quickly transformed into a powerful movement of unity, sacrifice, and shared purpose.

The church members had not only reached their goal by October 2024, but exceeded all expectations, paying off the entire mortgage balance ahead of schedule.

The celebration was held in January 2025, when the congregation gathered for a special ceremony to mark the milestone. The sanctuary was adorned in purple, symbolizing royalty, and green, representing freedom — a visual tribute to the significance of the day.

Joining current pastor Ronnie Williams, Ph.D., were Carl Nesmith, Lithonia’s first pastor; Horace Malone, Lithonia’s second

pastor; and Calvin B. Preston, South Atlantic Conference president.

“This was more than just paying off a debt,” said a church representative.

“It was a testament to what can happen when a community comes together with a unified vision and unwavering faith.”

The mortgage-burning initiative was a defining chapter in the church’s histo-

ry, highlighting not only financial stewardship but also the spiritual and communal strength of the members. The accomplishment continues to serve as a source of inspiration and pride in the church’s ongoing mission.

South Atlantic Holds Health Ministries Retreat 2025

ore than 105 enthusiastic young and young-at-heart individuals lined up at the start of the South Atlantic Conference Health Ministries 5K Run/Walk, May 16-18, 2025. This was the culminating event of a weekend filled with health information organized

health ministries director. From a 5-yearold to a 91-year-old, they all crossed the finish line and received a medal.

The retreat was held at the Conference’s River Oaks Campground in Orangeburg, S.C., and commenced Friday evening with Alex Howard presenting information on the benefits of clean water.

On Sabbath morning, Stephen Mills, M.D., shared information on diabetes and how to lower blood sugar. All were amazed at the visual aids he provided, showing the sugar content of some of the major soft drinks.

Ron C. Smith, D.Min., Ph.D., Southern Union Conference president, highlighted his testimony of how God brought him through to overcome his own personal health crisis.

The Sabbath ended at the lake and gazebo with a nature scavenger hunt organized by Charlene Berry, and a Vespers thought given by John Newlove, Conference youth and young adult director, assisted by his wife, Maria.

Saturday night was filled with a vibrant workout program organized and executed by April Smith. The retreat is an annual event, and in 2026, a health retreat cruise is being planned.

Bethel Church Hosts Community Giveaway

B

ethel Church in Clinton, N.C., launched a wide-reaching Community Giveaway this past April, as part of its efforts to connect with residents and prepare for its upcoming Pentecost 2025 Evangelistic Series.

Themed “The Community Knot — Tied Together for a Common Mission of Service,” the event aimed to strengthen ties between the church and the broader community, establishing Bethel as a reliable and compassionate resource in the area.

In partnership with Judy Toney of Combined Unified Services, church members distributed food, clothing, furniture, and hot meals to attendees. Each participant also received a gift pack containing a bookmark, a “message in a bottle” with a Bible verse, and an invitation to the church’s upcoming evangelistic series.

As part of the outreach, recipients completed information cards, allowing Lovel Spence, pastor and the church’s Bible worker, to follow up and build meaningful relationships before the series officially began.

“Bethel is a small church, but by working together, we were able to make a huge impact,” said a church member. “This event wasn’t just about giving away goods — it was about building lasting connections grounded in faith and service.”

The Community Giveaway marked a significant step in the church’s mission to serve and uplift the Clinton community through both action and the message of the Gospel.

Bethel church members rallied together, donating food, clothing, and even furniture to the community in conjunction with the Pentecost 2025 initiative.

Berean Pathfinders, Adventurers Participate in Wellstar Pilot Program

M

For the first hour of each two-hour club meeting, trained Wellstar facilitators led the group in this evidence-based program and delved into such areas as healthy versus unhealthy self-esteem, the importance of positive self-talk, positive attributes, healthy personal boundaries, creativity and self-esteem, facing fears and challenges, and the importance of attitude.

The Enrichly staff, supported by the Wellstar Center for Health Equity and

Community Health, held a graduation ceremony on April 13, 2025, at the conclusion of the program. Milestone Reached for Educators’ Commissioning Class of 2025 in Quest to Educate for Eternity

exceptional educators as the 2025 Commissioning Class. Combined, these teachers have more than 130 years of service within Adventist education. Awardees are Rhyanne Carrington, associate superintendent, with 10 years of service; Khandi Cooper, M.Ed., 11 years; Gisele G. Fields, M.Ed., 12 years; Deidre Hodnett, B.A., 24 years; Yanick Lebrun, M.B.A., 12 years; Jennifer Mabry, M.Ed., 13 years; Felicia Barnard, M.Ed., 10 years; Courtney Stokes, M.Ed., 17 years; and Jennifer Wales, Ed.D. candidate, with 10 years of continuous service.

Each candidate was formally recognized and given a charge by guest presenter Nehemiah Mabry, Ph.D., and Calvin Preston, South Atlantic Conference president, to continue their ministry in education with renewed purpose, spiritual passion, and unwavering faith. Their commissioning stands as a testament to their impact and commitment to the sacred

mission of Adventist education. Leaders reminded attendees that Adventist education is more than academics; it is a sacred calling to shape lives for eternity. The ceremony served not only as a personal milestone for the educators honored, but as a recommitment by the Church to the high calling of Christ-centered education.

As the Church navigates a rapidly changing world, this ceremony echoed a powerful truth: Now more than ever, Adventist schools need committed, spiritually grounded educators who see their work as a ministry and mission. Through their example, the Commissioning Class of 2025 embodies the Church’s commitment to “educate for eternity,” equipping students not only for success in this life, but for the life to come.

he South Atlantic Conference Office of Education under the leadership of Kim Gaiter, superintendent, held its 2025 Educator Commissioning and Dedication Ceremony at River Oaks Campground in Orangeburg, S.C. The sacred event honored a distinguished group of Adventist educators who have dedicated a decade or more of service to the ministry of Christian education.

South Central President Visits M.E.E.T. Ministry, Highlights Health Evangelism and Revival Mission

T

he peaceful grounds of M.E.E.T. (Missionary Education and Evangelistic Training) Ministry in Huntingdon, Tenn., welcomed Benjamin Jones Jr., president of South Central Conference, during the annual School of Gospel Health Evangelism for the class of 2025. The visit highlighted the important role of health evangelism in preparing people both spiritually and physically for the imminent return of Christ, a central part of M.E.E.T.’s ministry and its mission within the Adventist Church.

Founded more than two decades ago by Thomas Jackson, N.D., M.E.E.T. Ministry has remained dedicated to integrating the Gospel and authentic medical missionary work. Jones spent the day touring the 120-acre campus which has grown significantly, now featuring 15 buildings; a six-bedroom lifestyle center; a dormitory for 15 students; an herb production center; and spaces designed for education, training, and community engagement.

Among the facilities Jones toured: • The Natural Health Lifestyle Center offers guests transformative 8- to 10-day sessions designed to heal body, mind, and spirit through God’s methods of restoration.

• The Hydrotherapy Building is dedicated to educating and training students in hydrotherapy techniques, as well as providing student accommodations.

• The Manna House is a newly refurbished cafeteria and meeting facility that provides plant-based meals, and serves as a hub for fellowship.

• The Campus Store, aptly named “Last Stop,” offers biblical health literature based on the “G.O.D.S.P.L.A.N.” health message — Godly trust, Open air, Daily exercise, Sunlight, Proper rest,

The tour ended with a heartfelt message delivered by Jones during lunch, titled “Where Are You?,” inspired by the poignant question from Genesis 3:9.

Jones challenged attendees to reflect on humanity’s spiritual journey, urging obedience to God’s commandments as the foundation for meaningful living. “The sincerity of our prayers can be proven only by the vigor of our endeavor to obey God’s commandments,” said Jones, reaffirming the ministry’s core values. He shared insights about the ongoing spiritual warfare over lifestyle choices, and

called students and workers to embody the principles of faith and healthy living in preparation for Christ’s return.

His message resonated deeply with the audience, especially because M.E.E.T.’s core focus is on health education. This focus is based on the belief that understanding the human body, combined with biblical principles, can help prevent ill-

Since its inception, M.E.E.T. Ministry has been associated with the Adventist Service Industry for more than 20 years, and is currently an active member of Outpost Centers International. Its mission is to uphold the three angels’ messages of Revelation 14:6-12, preparing individuals to meet their God, as stated in Amos 4:12, while educating and training Gospel medical missionaries for service both domestically and internationally.

Recognizing the ministry’s global influence, Jones praised its commitment to establishing centers across the nation and around the world. M.E.E.T. Ministry’s team of 30 full-time staff members continues to play a vital role in serving local communities, and meeting the global call for a revival of Gospel-centered health initiatives.

Jackson highlighted the ongoing need for renovations and expansions, demonstrating ambitions for future growth.

These include housing for a growing staff, dormitories for more students, and improved training facilities, all essential as the ministry expands its reach and gains international recognition.

Pathfinder Investiture 2025 Celebrates Spiritual Growth, Leadership

T

he Oakwood University Church sanctuary was lively and inspiring on June 7, as it hosted the 2025 Pathfinder Investiture Service. With neat uniforms, shining badges, and hearts full of pride, the event celebrated a year of dedication, discipline, and spiritual growth.

The annual investiture, which honors the achievements of young Pathfinders, celebrated not only their accomplishments, but also the transformation brought about by their journey of faith and service.

Pathfinders from every class, from Friend to Guide, were invested during the ceremony. As their names and achievements were announced, the young people stood tall, proudly displaying insignias earned over months of classwork, service projects, honors, and spiritual training.

“This service is about more than just completion; it’s about transformation,” said one of the directors. Throughout the year, Pathfinders took part in various activities, from earning the Seeds Honor through nature studies to helping with

community food drives and mastering precision marching as part of the Color Guard.

One highlight of the event was the investiture of the Teen Leadership Trainees (TLTs), a select group of high school-aged Pathfinders who assume leadership roles within the club. The teens go beyond mere participation by actively taking responsibility for planning events, mentoring younger members, and managing operations.

Their contributions included leading drills, organizing meals at Friendship Camp,

and supporting the club’s various community service projects. The congregation erupted in applause as the TLTs received their distinctive scarves and pins, symbols of their growing servant leadership.

“These teens are not just the future leaders of the Church — they’re already taking initiative and leading now,” said a counselor after the ceremony.

Special appreciation during the service was given to parents, counselors, and church leaders who have dedicated countless hours to mentoring the youth.

“Their faithfulness behind the scenes is the foundation of this public celebration,” noted one of the club organizers.

Pathfinders received a wide range of honors throughout the year, including Pin Trading, First Aid, Health & Fitness, and Camping Skills, along with various local honors.

However, the real achievement was in the character growth shown by these young people — traits such as perseverance, teamwork, respect, and spiritual maturity.

“These badges represent more than skills — they symbolize the development of young individuals who understand their purpose in Christ and are prepared to serve,” remarked Brian Dublin Jr., Master Guide and director of club operations.

Dwain Woode, M.D., delivered the keynote address, highlighting the larger mission of the program. “Pathfinders isn’t just about patches. It’s about purpose. It’s about people. And, it’s about preparing these young men and women to lead in life and in faith,” he said.

As the congregation joined the Pathfinders for the final recitation of their pledge and the closing hymn, the significance of the ceremony was evident. The 2025 investiture was not merely a celebration but a spiritual charge, setting the tone for what God will continue to accomplish through these young disciples in the years ahead.

The Pathfinder Club is actively fulfilling its mission, demonstrating that it is more than just an organization — it’s a movement focused on growth, service, and leadership.

Oakwood University Church Launches Groundbreaking “Friendship Camp” for Pathfinders

akwood University Church in Huntsville, Ala., made history earlier this month by launching its first Friendship Camp, a dedicated camping experience designed specifically for 10-year-old Pathfinders in the Friend Class — the youngest members of the Pathfinder Club.

Brian Dublin, Pathfinder director, and Dwain Woode, M.D., Friend Class counselor, the Friendship Camp initiative was part of a bold effort to create a unique experience for young participants. Unlike larger Pathfinder campouts, the Friend Class weekend offered a more intimate and age-specific environment.

their tents and preparing for a weekend of learning, laughter, and community building. Despite rain late Saturday night, which forced the group to move indoors to the church’s Family Life Center, the event proceeded smoothly.

Organizers noted that the storm’s timing seemed providential, as campers and equipment were safely moved inside before heavy rainfall started.

Throughout the weekend, campers not only developed life skills but also earned four honors: Pin Trading, Seeds, Red Alert, and a special Friendship Camp honor developed exclusively for the event. Activities included hiking, drill exercises, group discussions, worship services, and leadership training.

Leadership Trainees), who were integrated into the camp structure as leadersin-training. TLTs Blake Woode, Caroline Anderson, Matthew Robinson, Annayia Crummy, and Brooklyn Dublin managed logistics, meal preparation, tent setups, and camper support.

The TLT teens demonstrated their leadership capacity, particularly during Friday’s dinner when they worked as a team to organize, prepare, and serve a meal for all participants. Young Pathfinders shared heartfelt reflections at the end of the event. Among the highlights: • “I liked that I got to enjoy myself, have fun with my friends, and also have some good food.”

• “I learned you need a permit to start a fire — and that not everything is a game.

Sometimes you have to be serious.”

• “We moved to the gym right before the rain came. It was like Jesus was holding it back just for us.”

Speaking after the weekend, Woode reflected on the event during the church’s investiture program: “We’re always looking to innovate, and this year’s Friendship Camp was one of those innovations.

No fuss: just tents, tools, teamwork, and trust. It was a special weekend that we believe laid a foundation for many more Friend Class campers to come.”

The pilot program drew enthusiastic support from parents, church leaders, and Conference officials. With its success, Oakwood University Church now hopes to make Friendship Camp a recurring tradition, blending faith, friendship, and personal development for its youngest Pathfinders.

Historic Telesurgery Connects Florida, Angola in World-first Medical Breakthrough

I

n a groundbreaking medical milestone, Vip Patel, M.D., founder and medical director of the Global Robotics Institute at AdventHealth Celebration, successfully performed a robotic prostatectomy on a patient located in Angola, Africa — while operating from the Nicholson Center in Celebration, Fla. The procedure spanned nearly 7,000 miles, making it the longest distance telesurgery ever completed, and setting a new global benchmark in surgical innovation.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted approval for the first human clinical trial of a transcontinental robotic telesurgery procedure initiated in the United States.

“This first-of-its-kind FDA-approved clinical trial for U.S.-based transcontinental robotic telesurgery is a stunning breakthrough — not just technologically, but in advancing global health equity,” said Patel. “It marks a critical step toward delivering high-quality surgical care to remote, rural, and underserved communities that have long lacked access. This is more than innovation — it’s

Angola faces one of the highest prostate cancer mortality rates in sub-Saharan Africa, with limited access to early detection and specialized surgical care, according to the Global Cancer Observatory. This telesurgery represents a critical step in addressing those disparities, and in bringing life-saving treatment to underserved populations.

The initiative is part of AdventHealth’s broader commitment to global health access. In addition to the surgery, AdventHealth has helped establish Angola’s first national prostate cancer screening program, empowering earlier diagnosis, and treatment for countless patients “This is a proud time for Dr. Patel and for AdventHealth as a whole,” said Doug Harcombe, CEO of AdventHealth Central Florida South Market and AdventHealth Lake Nona. “This telesurgery wasn’t just about breaking distance records — it was about breaking barriers to care. The procedure, which is an FDAapproved IDE human clinical trial, was made possible through advanced roboticassisted technology and a secure, highspeed international internet connection.

Patel conducted the surgery from Celebration, Fla., with his surgical team patient-side in Luanda, the Angolan capital.

AdventHealth University Unveils Health Humanities Degree Curriculum Blends Art, Science, Society

A

dventHealth University unveiled a new bachelor of science in health humanities and social sciences, the first of several new degrees and certificates debuting in the fall 2025 and spring 2026 terms.

The health humanities degree provides a foundation for students preparing to do graduate work in medicine, physical therapy, health care law, chaplaincy, health care administration, counseling, and psychology. The degree teaches them to examine health and illness from a variety of perspectives, including those of the humanities, communication, psychology, sociology, and religion. This new degree also allows students to take prerequisite courses they need to gain admission into graduate or professional schools of their choice.

“Our degree equips students to become wholistic practitioners,” said Julie Cook, M.A., chair of the Health Humanities and Social Sciences Department at AdventHealth University. “We want our students to see their future patients or clients in the context of their lives.”

istration, language, or religion, and students are encouraged to take summer breaks for volunteer work, study abroad, or research activities. The program aims to grow to 50 students at maximum capacity.

Other upcoming academic offerings at AdventHealth University include an associate degree in science and technology, and a master’s degree in clinical ministry, as well as a biomedical equipment technician certificate.

Chattanooga’s chapter of the Better Business Bureau (BBB) made presentations to winners in five categories on May 14, 2025, at the Chattanooga Convention Center. Winning for the local region in the category of 100+ employees, Southern earned a perfect score.

“Ethics and teaching our students positive Christian character traits are core to who we are, as an institution and as individuals, here at Southern,” says Ken Shaw, Ed.D., president of Southern.

The Torch Award for Ethics is based

Community Prayer Event Launches

M

ore than 300 Christians from different denominations in the Collegedale, Tenn., community gathered on the campus of Southern Adventist University for six consecutive evenings in May to pray for an outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit.

Held at Iles P.E. Center, the “It’s Gonna Rain” revival was a collaboration between University departments, including the School of Religion, the Office of Ministry and Missions, and Alumni Relations, along with local Seventh-day Adventist churches and Christian ministries, such as the SuCasa Spanish-American Church, Light Bearers Ministry, and Jesus for Asia.

“The Bible tells us that we need the latter rain in order to take the Gospel to the

ends of the Earth before Jesus returns,” says Kris Eckenroth, Alumni Council president at Southern and director of retro ministries. He felt God’s calling a few months ago to call the institutions together. “We know He’s coming back soon, so there’s no time to waste.”

The emphasis of the Week of Prayer was petitioning God as a body of believers for the profuse power that comes from being filled with His Spirit, following the scriptural command from Zechariah 10:1.

Joseph Khabbaz, who serves as vice president for spiritual life and chaplain at Southern, was a facilitator for the prayer time. “I was truly blessed by the sincerity of the prayers and the collective yearning for God’s presence to be

more fully known and experienced in our lives,” he said.

In her prayer group, Beth Snyder, associate professor in Southern’s School of Nursing, said she “felt the presence of the Holy Spirit as we praised God together.”

Plans are in place to bring the community back together for another prayer event later this year. “We keep telling people this was just the beginning,” said Eckenroth. “Our desire is to see the momentum from the revival keep going and growing, by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

obituaries BOLING, VICKIE, 84, of Laurel Hill, FL, born December 27, 1940, to the late Jesse and Katrina Ortiz in Goodland, KS, the youngest of seven children, died April 6, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She married her dear husband, Paul Boling, on May 13, 1973. They started their life’s journey inspired and led by God. Vickie earned her bachelor of science degree from Southern Adventist University, and a masters in teaching from Andrews University. She was a faithful wife, friend, and supported of Paul’s ministry. Active in every church they served, which includes Pathfinders, children’s choir director, decorating committee member, and as fundraiser chair for a new church building. She entertained church members in their home several times, and had as much as 30 church officers for a sit-down meal.

She served as the women’s ministries director for the Texas Conference from June 1, 2002, to March 31, 2003. She had a great love for music. Someone could bring up a certain subject and it would immediately remind Vickie of a song she learned as a child growing up in the Holiness Church. She loved her Lord! She will be terribly missed by her family, friends, and her husband.

Vickie is survived by her husband of 51 years, Paul; four children: Colleen Ross of Phoenix, AZ, Richard (Theresa) Boling of Mount Vernon, OH, Angie Boling of Destin, FL, and Ron Boling of Destin, FL; one stepdaughter, Paul (Mike) Sanchez of Killbuck, OH; four grandchildren; nieces; and nephews. She was predeceased by all her siblings.

BROMME, DR. WILLIAM RICHARD, 88, born December 21, 1936, in Duluth, MN, passed to his rest in Jesus on June 11, 2025. He was a resident at Elternhaus in Dayton, MD. On August 16, 1959, he married Joan Frederickson, who predeceased him.

Dr. Bromme was a professor of music and mathematics on the campuses of Southwestern Adventist University, Enterprise Academy, Campion Academy, Highland View Academy, and Spencerville Academy.

He was a loving father to Jeff, Shayne, and Ginger, all of whom, with their spouses, Nichole, Rick, and Jeff, survive him; he cherished his grandchildren as well, Max, Juliet, Andrew, Kari, Nathan, Nicholas, and Leif; and his great-granddaughter, Mia. Bromme was a person of many gifts, interests and talents. His family and friends cherish many memories, including memories of his committed faith and love for his students.

CINQUEMAN, JEFF, 67, passed May 27, 2025, after bravely battling cancer. Jeff served as a youth pastor and senior pastor in the Lake Union Conference, as well as chaplain at AdventHealth University, family life pastor at Forest Lake Church, and associate pastor at WholeLIfe (formerly Florida Hospital) Church in the Florida Conference. Jeff was also a licensed mental health counselor.

He was an avid sports enthusiast, especially enjoying waterskiing, racquetball, gymnastics, and football. He was a lover of travel, discovering new foods, and the Green Bay Packers. His favorite pastime, however, was being with family and creating “Papa” adventures for his grandchildren.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Tami (Zelms); daughter, Brittany Woods; son, JT Cinquemani; son-in-law, Joshua Woods; and daughter-in-law, Alyssa (Cotter) Cinquemani; four grandchildren: Adelyn and Eden Woods, and Nora and Leo Cinquemani; his sisters and brothers-in-law: Barbara (John) Kurlinski, Bonnie (Greg) Schaller, and Theresa Clark; and many other family and friends who were also very dear to Jeff. It is the love of so many that helped Jeff and Tami navigate the fragility of life this past year and a half.

obituaries DYSINGER, DR. PAUL WILLIAM (BILL), 97, of Williamsport, TN, born May 24, 1927, in Burns, TN, to Paul and Mary (Martin) Dysinger, passed March 30, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his family.

He married Yvonne Minchin on May 11, 1958, in Takoma Park, MD. He graduated from High School at Madison, TN, in 1945; graduated from Southern Missionary College in Collegedale, TN, with a B.A. in chemistry in 1951; graduated from Loma Linda University in Loma Linda, CA, with an M.D. in 1955; and from Harvard with an M.P.H. in 1962. He worked with the Indian Health Service in North Dakota and Arizona from 1956-58, and then with the U.S. State Department in Cambodia from 1958-60. In 1961, he joined Loma Linda University and continued there until 1988, during which he assisted in the founding of the LLU School of Public Health, and was its first associate dean for academic affairs. From 1988 until he retired in 1992, he was the senior health advisor for ADRA (Adventist Relief and Development Agency) in Silver Spring, MD. Besides the two years in Cambodia, he spent four years in Tanzania (1962-64 and 1978-1980) on assignments with LLU, a sabbatical leave in Singapore (1972-73), and one year in Pakistan establishing a Village Health Worker training program (1980-81). His travel and work took him to more than 110 countries and territories.

He also led CHIP programs (Coronary Health Improvement Project) in Centerville, TN, and participated on the Hickman County Health Committee. And he wrote two books, Heaven’s Lifestyle Today: Health in the Context of Revelation 14 and Health to the People: Stories of Public Health, Preventive and Lifestyle Medicine, and Medical Evangelism Training and Outreach, Loma Linda, CA 1905-2005. He was an active member and elder at Martin Memorial Church in Centerville.

Bill is survived by three sons: Edwin (Jennifer), Wayne, and John (Pam); daughter, Janelle (Craig) Edwards; his sister, Ruth (Charles) Harris; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne; and grandson, Stephen.

ALLEN, RUTH CAROLYN PREWITT, 84, wife of Corbin Allen, died January 2, 2025, at the UK Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. Ruth retired from Parker Seal in 2001, after 40 years of service. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the love of her life. She enjoyed camping, photography, bird watching, antiquing, and luncheons and shopping with her brother, Bob, and sister, Dorothy. Service to his Church included being a literature evangelist in New York Conference, and at 3ABN Trust Services in Loma Linda, CA. He is survived by his wife of 57 ¾ years, Oriana Frost; daughter, Melissa Frost of Avon Park; three brothers: Mark Sargeant of Ooltewah, TN; Dennis Farley of Maine; and Paul Sullivan of Watertown, NY; and sister, Cathy Weaver of South Lancaster, MA. He was predeceased by his son, Daven Frost. The service was conducted at the Avon Park

LIVENGOOD JR., ARCHER DAVENPORT, 83, of Clemmons, NC,

obituaries Archer Jr., (“AD,” as he was known to a lot of his family), born December 25, 1941, on Christmas Day, to Archer Davenport Livengood Sr., and Anne White Livengood, died April 3, 2025, at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center.

He grew up all over the U.S. since his father was a pastor and served several churches over the years. After high school and a year of college, he enlisted in the Army. He played coronet and trumpet and served in the Army Band. He was always a proud veteran and loved the U.S. flag.

Following those years of military service, he began a long career in sales in both the manufacturing and auto sales industries. In his last 17 years of employment, he lived in Roanoke, VA, working as a train engineer with the Norfolk & Southern Railroad. He made the trip to West Virginia so often, he could almost do it in his sleep.

After retiring from the Railroad, he worked a short while as the receptionist for Virginia Transformer because he just loved to meet and talk to people. However, after his parents’ health declined, he moved down to Mocksville, NC, where his parents had been living since 1970. He took care of them until their deaths, then moved to Clemmons, NC, a few years later in order to live somewhere with more restaurants, especially ones that served ice cream. He did love food almost as much as people! Living in Clemmons got an added bonus for him when his only first cousin on his mother’s side, whom he always called his little sister, moved back there from Virginia. He lived in Clemmons until his death. Archer was married during most of his adult years but had no children. He did, however, have lots of friends all over the place since he was a gregarious, funny extrovert who adored people. He had many in-

terests, including convertibles, Harley Davidson motorcycles, taking road trips, and music. In addition to playing coronet and trumpet, he had an outstanding voice until his last five years or so, when his vocal cords gave out. He loved going to concerts, especially instrumental ones, and never missed the Salem Band Christmas Concert if he could help it. In recent years, he and his “special someone, Bunny,” attended numerous concerts, as that was a shared interest for both of them. Archer was a beloved member of the Clemmons Fellowship after rededicating his life to Christ and getting rebaptized in 2016. He was sentimental and generous, but will likely best be described and remembered as “colorful” and comically eccentric. He is survived by a number of cousins and his special someone of the last eight years, “Bunny,” Shirlee Mitchell. He was predeceased by his parents. A memorial service to celebrate loveable, colorful Archer Jr., was held at the Clemmons Fellowship on June 28, 2025.

Eugene and Carolyn shared more than 65 years of love, ministry, and family. They met as students at Southern Missionary College in Collegedale, TN—Eugene a business major from Pickrell, NE, and Carolyn a bookkeeping student born into a pastoral family in Allentown, PA. Married December 28, 1958, in Atlanta, GA, their life together became one of service across North and Central America. They began their family life in Maine and Wisconsin, and later served in Guatemala, Michigan, and West Virginia. They eventually served in the Kentucky-Tennessee and Georgia-Cumberland conferences. Eugene served as association secretary and trust services director in both locations, known for his integrity, leadership, and musical talents—coordinating Camp Meeting music. Carolyn brought her warmth and care to her work at the Adventist Book Center. After retirement in 2000, they moved to Orlando, FL, to be near their daughter Sue. Eugene enjoyed music, nature, and family traditions, while Carolyn embraced grandparenting with creativity and joy. Their cherished spring trips to Jekyll Island became a family highlight. In 2020, they relocated to Dayton, MD, to be near their son Rick. They are survived by their daughter, Sue; two sons: Rick and Shayne; two grandchildren: Andrew and Kari, and Eugene’s sister, Arlene.
