A NOTE FROM VICKY It’s a new year and our teams at Home for Entertaining and Southern Studio are excited about the opportunities and adventures awaiting us in the months ahead. The shop and studio are bustling every day – and the contagious, creative energy reminds us that our work creating homes and nurturing environments for entertaining can have a meaningful, powerful impact. Last week, I was enjoying brunch with colleagues and they were sharing stories of their grandmothers making biscuits when they were children. Both of these accomplished women can vividly remember the sights, sounds and scents filling the kitchen as they watched their grandmothers prepare breakfast – but are disappointed that the recipes were not passed down to share with their own children. The conversation was a reminder that in the hustle and bustle of our lives, our children are storing memories of small, meaningful moments – not just of big events – and that homes and loved ones and are at the center of them. In recent months, the Southern Studio team has been meeting clients relocating from all areas of the country. These relocating families are not only dealing with moving, building and renovating – they also have to find new schools, new doctors, new places of worship, new banks and more. The transitions are deeply exciting, but also a reminder of the importance of community. In this issue, we share the story of a special family returning to Cary after many years away and the opportunity we had to create spaces for life to be lived and memories to be made. Meanwhile, our Home for Entertaining team has been enjoying meeting so many amazing people – including corporate teams gathering for team-building events, couples curating the perfect wedding registry in our shop, friends learning new skills together and families coming to enjoy all that Downtown Cary has to offer. It’s yet another reminder to take the time to listen and share the stories. This must be my year of reminders... the beauty of home, community and the human connection. It’s our mission and passion. a passion for color The Southern Studio team assisted color-loving clients with a fresh remodel for their Cary home. Kayla Boyle, senior designer, led the design team in creating spaces the empty-nest couple can enjoy for years to come.
Two decades ago, a North Carolina couple moved their lives up north – but kept and rented out their home in Cary in hopes of returning to the Raleigh area in the future. In 2022, they made the decision to return and reached out to Southern Studio for help with remodeling their home for the next stage of their life in Cary. “They knew they would need some boots-onthe-ground help as they tackled the remodel from Minnesota,” says Kayla Boyle, senior designer at Southern Studio and design lead for the project. Working alongside Glenn White and Sheldon Daury with Complete Construction Company, Southern Studio got to work creating open, inviting spaces with plenty of capacity to host and entertain – as well as plenty of color. “The clients love color, so we strategically incorporated rich, bold hues,” Boyle says.
Carrying the rich peacock color from the kitchen onto the paneled walls of the lounge, the Southern Studio team created a room filled with moody drama. Custom-designed window treatments and pillows from Windy O’Connor fabric complete the look and add cozy touches to enjoy while reading or engaging in long conversations with friends. In the dining room, a statement wall mural anchors the space and creates a beautiful and relaxed environment for hosting guests. Meanwhile, the family room offers beautiful views of the golf course – which the Southern Studio team maximized by removing a back staircase and adding in large sliding doors. The guest suite, which boasts the best views of all, features two comfortable chairs for sipping wine and enjoying golden hour. “The chairs really complete the retreat,” Boyle says.
The teams gave the kitchen a modern feel with a custom range hood and dramatic backsplash – and removed walls to open up the kitchen into the family room. They also focused on functional details to make the kitchen as useful as it is beautiful. “It’s a family that loves to cook and entertain, so these functional details were important,” Boyle says.
The primary suite is another tranquil space, with luxe fabrics and a warm color palette creating a comfortable haven. For a spa-like finish, Southern Studio removed a garden tub and window in the primary bathroom to make way for a large statement shower, custom vanities and a dream closet.
The team put in a bar adjoining the kitchen perfect for entertaining, and next to the kitchen, they added a hidden door to the laundry room that blends into the cabinetry.
“The rich colors and custom furnishings came together beautifully,” Boyle says. “The home is simultaneously elegant and comfortable – so it’s perfect for both living and entertaining.”

Once you’ve planned your menu, take time to create an atmosphere for meaningful conversation. Home for Entertaining partnered with corporate chef Vinnie Balducci functional kitchen with both chefs and guests in mind. Unlike the typ Home for Entertaining kitchen is used primarily for demonstrating – design approach. Taking every detail into consideration, Chef Vinnie Entertaining team to design the perfect space.
The kitchen features a large island that can seat ten comfortably, Elk Wolf-SubZero-Cove appliances – including a built-in refrigerator, 48” dishwashers, steam oven, ice maker, beverage center, wine tower refr refrigerator drawers. A chef’s dream, the wide range of top-of-the-lin elevate every hosting experience. After working closely with Chef Vin and dream up the space, the Home for Entertaining team was thrille kitchen to prepare food for Home for Entertaining’s grand opening.
