Close to 2000 participants and staff attended VenturingFest, with over 800 Ventureres from the Southern Region hanging out at BaseCamp Delta. Thank you to everyone who made this a summer to remember. We met Scouts from all over the United States, as well as, Canada, Ireland, Egypt, Trinidad and Tabago. We played in the rain, walked 10+ miles a day, Zip-lined, shot bows and arrows, swung from the canopies, rode bikes and skateboards, learned about conservation and sustainability in the coolest treehouse ever, conquered the water obstacle course, paddled in Goodrich Lake, caught some fish, ran a 5k, partied all night long at the most epic Dance Party, played a little glow in the dark capture the flag and had the BEST WEEK of our LIVES!! We had so much fun getting to know so many of you. I don’t know about you, but this will be a summer to remember. -Kynzee Ganz Southern Region, VP Communications
To celebrate the twentieth year of Venturing, Southern Region has created an exclusive neckerchief. It features a maroon base with green and gold borders. Our special year cannot go without the twentieth year logo embroidered to the maroon base. All funds go to support the Southern Region Venturing program. www.srvbsa.com
Southern Region VOA Officers We are so blessed to be officers in an amazing organization. We had a great time coming together to create a vision of how to better serve each and every Area, Council and Unit. Expect big things this year and know you can reach out to any of us for help. VenturingFest offered the Kodiak Challenge and a Course Directors Conference. Over two hundred youths and adults participated and took away meaningful experiences and a new understanding of leadership. As the senior crew guide, I was able to see change not only in the participants but staff alike. There are five segments to the Kodiak Challenge: communication, stages of team development, inclusiveness, ethical decision making, and servant leadership. Leaders left our course to make their communities better. An incredible sight from our course was the closing ceremony- youth created a large circle, surrounded by the advisors. Our final debrief was filled with inspiration and the spark of enthusiasm for leadership. Prior to this, all nine crews formed their own circles and conducted a Start, Stop, and Continue, a method of collecting feedback about how the course went and what they took away. The highlight of our course was to create leaders who can reflect and make the next time better. From all of the Kodiak Challenge staff, we hope all two hundred participants learned more about leadership and themselves. Thank you for the opportunity to lead this course, and we’ll see you soon!

We had two amazing guests come and visit us at VenturingFest and speak with our Kodiak participants. Mike Surbaugh, Chief Scout Executive of BSA spoke about his vision and all the opportunities Summit can offer Scouts for years to come. Richards “Doc Miller, creator of the Kodiak program and one of the founders of Venturing spoke about how excited he was to have the program make a big come back this year and for the future of Venturing.
