AMERICA'S 250TH ANNIVERSARY FACTS

America's 250th anniversary, also known as the Semiquincentennial, marks 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The term "Semiquincentennial" simply means a 250-year anniversary. Throughout 2026, communities across the country are celebrating with parades, festivals, educational programs, concerts, historical exhibits, and volunteer projects. The anniversary is more than a birthday—it's an opportunity for Americans to learn about the nation's history, honor those who helped shape it, and recognize the contributions of everyday citizens who continue to build stronger communities.

250 YEARS OF FREEDOM

As America celebrates its 250th Anniversary in 2026, we honor two and a half centuries of history, perseverance, and progress. On July 4, 1776, the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence, declaring the 13 colonies free from British rule. That bold decision launched a new nation founded on the ideals of liberty, equality, and self-government. Over the past 250 years, the United States has grown from a small collection of colonies into a diverse nation of more than 340 million people. This historic milestone is a time to reflect on our shared past, celebrate the freedoms we enjoy today, and look ahead with hope for future generations.

A TIME TO CELEBRATE COMMUNITY

While America’s 250th anniversary celebrates our nation’s founding, it also celebrates the people who make our communities strong. Across the country, neighbors are gathering for parades, fireworks, picnics, concerts, and hometown traditions that have been passed down through generations. These local celebrations remind us that the American

story is written not only in history books but also in the everyday acts of service, kindness, hard work, and community spirit found in towns large and small. As we celebrate 250 years of independence, it’s a perfect time to reflect on our shared values, appreciate those who came before us, and look forward to the future with pride and optimism.
