Take the bus to the County Fair Kenosha County Transit has $2 trips to and from fairgrounds
Western Kenosha County Transit is adding a bus stop at the Kenosha County Fair for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, Aug. 16 to 18. Riders can take the bus to the fair from Twin Lakes, Silver Lake, Paddock Lake or Kenosha for only $2 each way. The bus stop is at the fair’s South Gate by the high school. Look for the banner, “Western Transit Stops Here.” Bus service to and from the fair runs from 8 a.m. to 5:20 p.m. with stops at the Twin Lakes Library, Meadowview/Lincolncrest Apartments, Twin Lakes-Aurora, Silver Crest Apartments, Village Plaza Shopping Center, Target/ St. Catherine’s Hospital and the Southport Plaza. Kenosha County Fair set to celebrate Aug. 16 to 20 While the Kenosha County Fair promises to deliver some old favorites Aug. 16 to 20 on the county fairgrounds, a pair of new features could bring added thrills to the annual event, County Fair manager Denise Zirbel said. “We are excited to have two new contests in 2017,” Zirbel said. “A Barn Quilt Contest and a Home Brew Competition.” A barn quilt, like a fabric quilt, has a similar design structure. However, unlike the fabric counterpart, it is hand painted and affixed to the side of a barn. Two bottles (10 ounces minimum) per category will be entered and a blind tasting will be used for judging.

Feedback will be given to the brewer. Each category award a first-, second- and third-place prize. Best of Show prizes for gold, silver and bronze will also be given. No entry fee is required, but contestants will be required to purchase a ticket to enter the Kenosha County Fair. Participants must be 21 years of age.

See the old tractors, engines, and machinery from a time gone by. The Antique Tractor Parade is at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16. Along with the crowning of the Fairest of the Fair Wednesday night at 9 p.m. in the Show and Sale Arena, fair organizers plan to bring back fireworks for the second straight year, Zirbel said.

The Creekside Stage plays host to some of the area’s most popular musical acts during the Kenosha Country Fair.
Bella Cain
The county group Bella Cain is headlining the fair at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 19. Established in 2010, the group has become one of the largest and most “indemand” top 40 country groups in the region. With more than 23 members in the band, that include musicians, dancers, sound and light engineers, techs/crew, merchandise staff and drivers, the group can be seen performing across the Midwest, rocking the stages of Country Thunder, Country USA, SummerFest, FM106 and US-99 Sponsored Events, Navy Pier, State Fair, Allstate Arena, Bradley Center as well as headlining many fairs and private festivals in Illinois,

The Lunchmoney Bulllies
The Lunchmoney Bullies hail from southeast Wisconsin playing favorite cover rock, country, reggae and rap songs with a twist. See them perform at 7:30 p.m. on the opening night of the fair, Aug. 16 For more information, find the band on Facebook.
The Now
The Now rock band covers classic rock through contemporary pop/rock cover material. The will be on the Creekside Stage at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 18. The Now has performed on stage at multiple festivals, venues and clubs and opened for some of the industry’s top acts,

Suburban Cowboys
The Suburban Cowboys is popular country cover act in the Midwest, headlining more than annual shows including venues such as Joe’s On Weed Street in Chicago, Joe’s Live Rosemont, Country Thunder, and many fairs and fests. Burro Creek
Burro Creek bills itself as the “country band with an edge.” The six-member band

The Amazing Farm Boys
The Amazing Farm Boys hit the stage at noon on Sunday, Aug. 20. For many families in the area, and the state, the family pet lives on their farm and doesn’t always have paws. Various kinds of livestock are beloved pets for kids and grownups alike in Wisconsin.

7 THINGS TO CONSIDER BEFORE LIVING WITH LIVESTOCK Animals play a meaningful role in the lives of their owners. In fact, most people consider their furry friends part of the family. And while dogs and cats tend to be the most common companions, nowadays, the beloved family pet can come in many different shapes, sizes and species. Families across the country are opening their hearts and homesteads to various types of livestock, proving once and for all that not all pets have paws. Leanne Lauricella, founder of the popular rescue organization Goats of Anarchy and a consultant for Tractor Supply Company, has experienced this firsthand. Lauricella cares for more than 40 special needs, orphaned and disabled goats, as well as two pigs, and while she loves her hoofed herd, she says families should be aware of the unique challenges that come with raising such a pet. “It’s common for people to see a cute baby pig or goat and think, ‘I want one!’” says Lauricella. “These animals are adorable and make for great companions, but they do require a special type of commitment from their owners and it’s important for people to understand the
responsibilities before deciding to adopt.” To help determine if livestock adoption is right for you, and to provide some tips for families who are getting started, Lauricella and Tractor Supply give us a glimpse of what life with livestock really looks like.

They get big
Livestock animals need space to roam, but don’t underestimate the importance of also keeping them properly contained. While the size and strength of a fence will vary depending on the animals you plan to adopt (you can research containment options for specific animals at TractorSupply.com), quality fencing should always be a high priority. The last thing you want is for your animals to outsmart their fence and roam into a nearby farm, field or neighborhood.
It may sound obvious, but many would-be adopters forget that the once small, adorable baby animal they adopted will one day grow into a full-fledged adult. A pot-bellied pig, for example, may start out nice and little, but it will hardly be considered a lap animal when it reaches a whopping 100-250 pounds.

The majority of farm animals thrive in a herd or flock, and having companions is extremely beneficial to their long-term health and happiness. Before you get started, make sure you have the time and resources to care for multiple animals.
