St. Ignatius outreach program donations received by Antioch first responders St. Ignatius Episcopal Church in Antioch promotes outreach into the community by selecting a different project, organization or effort to focus on every month. Parish members make suggestions to the Outreach Committee and worthy causes are selected and assigned a month. Antioch First Responders were selected as the group to honor and support this November.

Through the generous donations of St. Ignatius parishioners the church was able to

provide 8 fruit baskets and 7 additional baskets filled with sausage, cheese, candy, nuts, crackers, snack bars and coupons for Taco Bell, Wendy’s and Culvers. 115 fire department employees and 137 police department employees received these gifts on Thanksgiving Eve. Due to Covid restrictions Fr. Brian Beno and Terry Hansen-Beno delivered the baskets to one location and the fire department distributed them to the other sites.

Pfizer announced Nov. 20 that it planned to submit its COVID-19 vaccine application for emergency approval

by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration—a process that could take between two and four weeks, Illinois Department of Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike said during a daily news conference.

On Nov. 20, Ezike said she expects the state will receive about 400,000 doses of the vaccine in the first round of distribution.

“That is the number that we’re working with to identify how we will partition that out for the first phase,” she said.

“And we already know that we heard directly from General (Gustave) Perna that, as soon as FDA approval is granted, the next day they would start shipping out vaccines,” she added.

Perna is the chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed, which is the Trump administration’s national program to develop, manufacture and distribute a COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr. Moncef Slaoui, Operation Warp Speed’s chief science adviser, reiterated this timeframe during a recent interview on ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos.

Ezike said the hospital workers set to receive the vaccine in the first rounds include staff who are not health care professionals, such as the cleaning and food staff.

“A lot of those people in those jobs are our Black and brown communities and so we are going to make sure that they are included in that first phase 1a,” she said.

Essential workers outside of hospitals and at-risk individuals, including people 65 years of age and older, will be next in line to receive the vaccine in the first phase of distribution when limited doses are available, according to the vaccination planning guide.

Ezike said the initial doses of the vaccine will be distributed through hospitals in each of the 11 regions of the state.

State public health officials are also identifying freezer storage locations, since Pfizer’s vaccine must be kept at 94 degrees below zero.

“We’ve also ordered 20 separate contraptions that can hold vaccines at that ultra-cold level. So those 20 freezers, if you will, will be placed in all of the 11 regions to make sure that there is access for every

part of the state to the vaccine,” Ezike said.

Pharmaceutical company Moderna could seek emergency approval for its COVID-19 vaccine application with the FDA by the end of the month, Slaoui said.

Unlike the vaccine under FDA review from Pfizer, Moderna’s vaccine can be shipped and stored long-term at standard freezer temperatures of 4 degrees below zero, for six months.

The FDA also has issued emergency approval for a second anti-body therapy treatment for mild-to-moderate COVID-19 infections in adult and pediatric patients.

Ezike said the government has already provided the state with about 8,500 doses, and that the treatment is meant to be given early in the infection to help prevent hospitalization for high-risk and older individuals.

“We have teams that are working right now to discuss the equitable distribution of this very important resource. We are going to make sure that, in terms of communication, the public is aware of this resource and who are the appropriate candidates,” she said.

“Hopefully, people will start to be immunized, I would say, within 48 hours from the approval,” Slaoui said during the interview.

Under the state’s COVID-19 Mass Vaccination Planning Guide released in October, the first vaccine doses released will be given to front-line hospital workers and first responders.

Gov. JB Pritzker was asked about ensuring access to the vaccine among low-income or marginalized communities.

“I just want to say that one of the big concerns that I have is making sure that we do this with an equity lens, and that includes not only people of color but rural communities, places that often are left out and left behind, forgotten,” he said. “I want them to be significantly considered for the near-term possibility of getting the vaccine but this vaccine is going to roll out over quite a number of months. We’re not really going to see, as I understand, the vaccine coming to the general public until perhaps March or April at the earliest.”

The Lake County community has more of a reason to visit College of Lake County’s (CLC) Grayslake Campus thanks to the college’s many partnerships. Northern Illinois Food Bank continues its PopUp Markets, the Lake County Health Department will offer two drive-through COVID-19 testing days and CLC’s Women’s Center is hosting its annual holiday giving tree.

Pop-Up Market Every two weeks, the Northern Illinois Food Bank takes over CLC’s parking lot 3 at its Grayslake Campus to offer approximately 50 lbs. of food to families in need, no questions asked. Since the event began on Oct. 20, around 3,000 families have benefitted from the partnership.

“It’s a cross section of society,” said Northern Illinois Food Bank Pop-Up Market manager Mike Keane.

“There’s no trend of a certain gender, race, creed or color that comes to mind when I look out at all the cars linedup.”

Know Before You Go Testing is free and open to all regardless of symptoms. A phone number and name are required in order to receive testing results. Photo identification and proof of insurance are helpful, but not required.

Please expect long wait times due to high demand for testing.

Testing locations may close early due to inclement weather or if daily testing supplies are exhausted.

Those utilizing drive-thru testing must be seated at a functioning window. Once you get in line at the site, you will not be permitted to exit your car. All sites will also accommodate walk-up testing for individuals who do not have a vehicle. Only viral testing is provided at the mobile testing site.

Types of Testing Viral (polymerase chain reaction or PCR) testing, commonly done with a nasal swab, is used to detect a current COVID-19 infection. This is the only type of test offered at the IDPH mobile testing site and at State-run Community-Based Testing Sites.

Antigen testing, done via nasal swab or saliva sample, is a rapid viral protein test used to identify current COVID-19 infection. Results are available in as little as 15 minutes, but antigen tests may be less sensitive than a PCR test. This means an antigen test is more likely to produce a false negative test result, especially if the person tested has no symptoms.

Antibody (serology) testing, a blood test, might tell you if you had a past infection and may not detect current COVID-19 infection, so it is NOT an appropriate test for someone who is currently in quarantine for potential COVID-19 exposure.

If you are told to quarantine for 14 days due to a potential exposure to an infected person, a negative COVID-19 test result does not shorten your quarantine period. The virus can take up to 14 days to be detectable in the body by a test,

Human trafficking sting results in three arrests

On November 19, 2020, Patrick D. Kenneally, McHenry County State’s Attorney and Chief Sanders, Spring Grove Police Department, announced that three individuals were arrested for Promoting Prostitution and Prostitution during a human trafficking sting.

The operation was planned, coordinated, and executed on November 18, 2020 in Spring Grove at the Spring Spa, 2020 US Route 12, by the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office’s Human Trafficking Task Force, the Department of Homeland Security/ Homeland Security Investigations, and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. The McHenry County Human Trafficking Task Force is made up of Algonquin Police Department, Cary Police Department, Crystal Lake Police Department, Huntley Police Department, Illinois State Police, Lake in the Hills Police Department, Johnsburg Police Department, McHenry City Police Department, Spring Grove Police Department and Woodstock Police Department.
