The holidays come alive in East Troy The East Troy Electric Railroad’s Santa Parade Train will make its annual journey into downtown East Troy on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Presented by the East Troy Electric Railroad in conjunction with the East Troy Area Chamber of Commerce and Mukwonago Area Chamber of Commerce and Tourism Center, the beautifully lit four-car train will travel down the century-old interurban trolley line between Mukwonago and East Troy.

The original East Troy Christmas Parade train, started by the East Troy Jaycees and the railroad in 1972, was a historic reproduction of the Schuster’s Christmas Parade in Milwaukee.

The Schuster’s Department store chain sponsored the parade, established in 1928,

to kick off the Christmas shopping season.

It disappeared in 1955 with the demise of the Milwaukee Electric Lines interurban and streetcar system.

Spectators can catch a glimpse of Santa along County Road ES. The train will slow briefly at the following crossings: • 5:06 p.m., train departs at The Elegant Farmer; • 5:25 p.m., N. Army Lake Road – Army Lake Camp; • 5:42 p.m., Army Lake Camp; • 5:56 p.m., St. Peter’s Road; • 6:13 p.m., Byrnes Street; • CONTINUED ON PAGE 11

Here comes Santa Claus!

Santa arrives in East Troy in 2020 on the East Troy Railroad’s Christmas Parade Train. The annual train travels from Mukwonago to East Troy on Dec. 4, 2021, where Santa and Mrs. Claus will open the holiday season with the annual tree lighting and holiday events on the downtown East Troy Village Square. Santa’s helpers Volunteers with Holiday Help of East Troy were fewer in numbers in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but handled the extra workload with holiday cheer as they packaged all the holiday gifts for area families in need. Last year’s pick up was a drive-thru for families in an effort to keep everyone safe.

Let It Glow

The 2020 Let It Glow drive-thru event featured numerous glow stations, which families viewed from their vehicles at the Walworth County Fairgrounds. The event, sponsored by the Elkhorn Area Chamber of Commerce, has been expanded this year and will run from 3 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3.; 5 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec 4; and 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, Dec 5. Let It Glow, is a free holiday festival.

A caroling we go The festive nature of the holiday season makes it an ideal time to sing, especially in groups. Perhaps it’s no surprise then that caroling, a tradition that dates back many centuries, ultimately collided with Christmas. Caroling and Christmas caroling are two different things.
