According to a press release from Elmhurst Police Chief Michael Ruth, police are currently investigating an Attempted Carjacking that occurred on Sunday, Jan. 17, at 10:20 a.m. in the 500 block of N. gain control of the gun but was later found to be a replica gun. The offenders were described as black males in their 20s, 5-foot-10 to 6-feet tall with a thin build. Both were wearing all black clothing and surgical masks. One offender had white stripes on the side of his pants. The victim suffered minor injuries and the offenders were unable to take his car. The offenders fled the scene in a silver late model Toyota RAV 4, southbound on Van Auken. Elmhurst Police asks anyone with information or residential video to contact the Elmhurst Police Department at 630-530-3050.

Police investigate roadway shooting at St. Charles, I-290 Detectives still seeking suspect, vehicle

According to a press release from Police Chief Michael Ruth and the City of Elmhurst, the Elmhurst Police Department was investigating a roadway shooting incident that occurred on St. Charles Road and the I-290 Expressway on Friday, Jan. 16, at approximately 2:30 a.m. The victim reported observed a silver sedan following the victim’s vehicle driving west on the I-290 expressway from Chicago. According to police, the silver sedan continued following as the victim exited the ramp to westbound St. Charles Road. As the victim merged onto St. Charles Road, the silver vehicle pulled alongside of the victim and an unknown suspect began firing gunshots at the victim’s vehicle. The vic-

tim’s vehicle was struck with several bullets. The victim was not injured. The victim reported last seeing the suspect vehicle perform a U-turn and proceed east on St. Charles Road, possibly onto eastbound I-290, immediately after the shooting. The interchange at St. Charles Road and I-290 was closed until approximately 5:30 a.m. on Friday evening, as evidence technicians searched for and collected evidence at the scene. Elmhurst detectives are investigating the incident. The suspect vehicle is described as: A silver 1995 to 2003 BMW 5 series 4-door sedan with tinted windows. Anyone with video footage or information about this incident is asked to contact the Elmhurst Police Department at 630-530-3050.

Fatal accident in Villa Park

On Thursday, Jan. 14 at about 1:39 p.m., the Villa Park police and fire department units were dispatched to the area of Kenilworth and Yale for a vehicle on fire. Upon arrival, police officers found the vehicle fully engulfed in flames with at least one occupant trapped inside the vehicle. The police officers and responding firefighters were unable to rescue the victim. Police said a preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and it struck a tree prior to starting on fire. The case remains under investigation.
