Daniel Tasker, who, with their husbands visited the prairie in June. Ezekiel Brownell and Adaline Pratt were the first couple married, Joseph S. Pierce, Justice of the Peace officiated. Surrounded by fertile farmland, Clinton is picturesque with its beautiful tree-lined streets. A community of friendly citizens, boasting a large skilled labor force, an excellent school system, and several areas great for sport and recreation of all kinds, Clinton is an ideal place to call home. History of Clinton
On the second day of April, 1837, under the guidance of Deacon Chauncey Tuttle, who had visited this section of the country the fall previous, accompanied by “Aunt Amy’s prayers and recipe for making bread,” Dr. Dennis Mills, Milton S. Warner, Charles Tuttle and Wm. S. Murray, started from Meacham’s Grove in Illinois, for some place on or near the Rock River in Wisconsin. After five days of hard toiling through mud, sloughs and un-bridged rivers and creeks, they arrived at “Blodgett’s Place”

Founded in 1846, it is a fouryear, independent residential liberal arts and sciences college, located on a 40-acre campus that is noteworthy for its historic buildings and as the site of ancient Indian mounds. Beloit’s primary aim is to provide a learning and living environment dedicated to the cultivation of liberally educated people, those who are at home in the world of ideas and who value learning for its own sake. Beloit is a Midwestern college with an international flavor: its 1,235 students come from 47 states, 40 countries, and the District of Columbia. Nine percent of students come from countries outside the United States, and nearly half of all U.S. students’ study abroad while enrolled at Beloit.

rich history of serving the community. Formed in 1912/13 as city vocationschools in Beloit and Janesville, the two units were united into a District in 1968, which included the majority of Rock and green counties. Titled Blackhawk Technical Institute at that time, it has become one of 16 technical colleges in the state that provides education for employment. Offering associate degrees, technical diplomas and certificates, BTC offers programs in health, Human and Protective Services (HHPS), Business and Information Technology (BIT), Manufacturing, Construction and Aviation (MCA), and Transportation, Agriculture & Aoorentice, as well as general education classes and Academic Support/Adult Basic education classes such as GED/HSED preparation and testing, English as a Second Language (ESL), etc. BTC also offers services to businesses to help train their employees and offer technical assistance and customized training as well as adult continuing education classes. BTC’s facilities include an addition and renovation to its Monroe Campus (210 4th Ave.), which doubled the space available there and expanded programming to include a full nursing program, a Computer Service Technician program, plus expanded student services. BTC’s Central Campus (located off Highway 51 or Prairie
Rd. midway between Beloit and Janesville) has almost 90,000 square feet of new space following its expansion and renovation that provides for more programming in protective services (law enforcement, fire science, EMT), business and computer classes, health occupations and early childhood classes, as well as a consolidation of student services, plus renovations of the existing facility. Within a give year, BTC serves anywhere from 13,000 – 15,000 students. Its placement rate of its credit program graduates has consistently been at or above 90% each for the past 13 years; and well over 90% of BTC’s graduates remain to work in Wisconsin. Other centers include the Aviation Center located at Southern Wisconsin Regional Airport, the Center for Transportation Studies on Highway 14 just west of the intersection with Highway 51 north of Janesville, and an adult learning center at 444 E. Grande Ave. in downtown Beloit, in the lower level of the Turtle Creek Bookstore.

The Richardson-Brinkman house at 607 West Milwaukee Road, Clinton, was built in 1843 by Alonzo Richardson. It is of Greek Revival design. Its walls are 16 to 18 inches thick. It was placed on the National Register in 1977. The Clinton Community Historical Society was founded in 1987 by a group of dedicated citizens from the Village of Clinton, and the townships of Bradford, Clinton, Turtle and LaPrairie. The gardens and grounds on the property are designed and planted by The Clinton Garden Club.
