The Farmers Market takes place in Wehmhoff Square Park in Downtown Burlington every Thursday evening May

through October. B-Town Sounds performs free concerts in Echo Park on Thursdays during the summer, along with the Kiwanis Civic Band who plays on Friday evenings. Bring your blanket and picnic basket because you won’t want to miss it!

Remember, no visit to Burlington is complete without seeing the Aquaducks Water-Ski Show. This award-winning show is free and held on Thursday evenings in the summer at Einer Fischer Park on Browns Lake.

Just minutes southeast of Burlington on Rustic Road Highway B, you can find two of our area’s most valued treasures –AEppelTreow Winery and Brightonwoods Orchard; a collaborative venture that produces award-winning wines, sweet cider and a large variety of heritage apples in season. Across the street sits Richard Bong State Recreation Area with over 4,500 acres of rolling grassland, savanna, wetlands and scattered woodland.

Besides our vast array of outdoor recreational offerings including walking and biking trails and a new community

aquatic center, Burlington is home to several historical, educational and entertaining attractions.

The historic Malt House Theater is home to The Haylofters, one of Wisconsin’s oldest continuing community theaters. The Burlington Historical Society maintains the Burlington Historical Museum and Pioneer Cabin, offers a selfguided walking tour of Historic Burlington and has traced the Roots for Freedom, Wisconsin’s Underground Railroad. Known as the home of the Liars’ Club, Burlington boasts the Tall Tales Trail, a self-guided tour of championship lies immortalized on bronze plaques displayed throughout the downtown area.

Brown’s Lake Aquaducks

The Brown’s Lake Aquaducks perform water ski shows at Einer Fischer Park on Hwy 11 in Burlington every Thursday evening from Memorial Day through Labor Day. The Junior Show starts at 5 pm with the Main Show following at 6:30 pm. All shows are free and open to the public.

Burlington Farmers Market

Located in Wehmhoff Square Park (next to the library) in Historic Downtown Burlington is one of our favorite summer pastimes. Vendors and customers come from miles around to sell and buy fresh produce, meats, and cheeses, and unique crafts and products.

The Farmers Market has grown to include live music, local beer and wine offerings, and delicious on-site dining options. Come and enjoy a fun evening of food, music and fun!

Roots of FreedomWisconsin’s Underground Railroad

The Underground Railroad was the first “railroad” to reach the Wisconsin Territory - and many visitors to the Burlington area are surprised at the rich history that includes multiple way-stations and pioneer residents who were active abolitionists, participating both directly and indirectly to help runaway slaves on their way to freedom.

The Burlington Historical Society has mapped out many of the way-station locations and offers the Bur Spur Roots of Freedom self guided tour. This tour includes over 25 stops in all: a City of Burlington Walking Tour and a driving tour that encompasses Rochester and Spring Prairie.

Burlington Rotary Barons

The Burlington Rotary Barons are a semi-professional amateur baseball team that began in 1997. The team is comprised of young men that were high school standouts and are currently playing college baseball, or have college baseball experience, and live in the Burlington area.

The team plays in the Land O’ Lakes Southwest league. This league is comprised of similar baseball talent from communities all across southeastern Wisconsin, from Milwaukee to Kenosha and as far west as Janesville.

The team plays its home games at Beaumont Field, across from Echo Lake in Burlington. Their season runs from May through the end of August.

Malt House Theater

The historic Malt House Theater is home to The Haylofters, one of Wisconsin’s oldest continuing community theaters. The group was founded in 1932, when its first home was an old barn near downtown Burlington, where shows were presented for audiences on a small stage built into the hayloft – hence the group’s name.

Since 1954, the company has presented an annual season in its present location, including spring and fall plays, a summer musical and off-season activities and shows.

Its all outdoors

There’s always something to do in Burlington! No matter the time of year, you will find something to enjoy in our great outdoors.

Spring and summer are bursting with color and full of fun and exciting opportunities to enjoy the warmer months. Spend an afternoon canoeing down the Fox River, golfing, hiking or biking one of our many trails, lounging around at the Einer Fischer County Park beach, boating on one of our four area lakes, or fishing on the banks of the White River.

Additional canoe and kayak launches can be found at Case Eagle Park above and below the Rochester Dam. They are easily accessible from the parking lot within the park and allow water recreation on the Fox River south into and through Burlington or north into Waterford.

Fall is a wonderful time to get out in our beautiful crisp outdoors! Spectacular scenes await you in late September and early October with the great variety of trees that Southeastern Wisconsin provides.

Taking a drive or a bike ride along one of our seven Rustic Roads – the most of

any Wisconsin County – is a great way to see our brilliant fall colors.

The winter months hold much beauty and excitement on the many lakes and rivers surrounding Burlington. Whether you enjoy skating, hockey, fishing/ice fishing, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or making snow angels, one thing is for sure–with winter fun, Burlington has it all!

Besides all the outdoor possibilities found all over Burlington, we also have John Margis Wildlife Area just south on Fish Hatchery Road, north of Bohner’s Lake. This area has paths which lead to a marsh for wildlife viewing and beautiful overlooks within the wildlife area.

Just east of Burlington is our local State Recreation Area. Richard Bong State Recreation Area is open year-round offering camping, nature classes, and 41.1 miles of trails for hiking, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, snowshoeing, and dirt bike riding.

Bicycle Trails

No matter if you like your two wheels on the blacktop, back country roads or scenic bike trails, miles of trails provide a great two-wheel time for peddlers of all levels and are an excellent way to see many of the natural wonders of our area. Wild flowers, native birds, and picturesque landscapes combined with the fresh air, produce a healthy and leisurely activity that’s full of fun.

Seven Waters Trail

The Seven Waters Trail passes near: Wind Lake, Waubeesee Lake, Muskego Creek, Fox River, Long Lake Creek, White River and Echo Lake.

The gravel trail begins at Highway 142 at Bushnell Park in the Town of Burlington, enters the City of Burlington near Riverside Park following the beautiful Fox River. The trail runs north along the east side of Highway 36 crossing Highway 36 to join a newly constructed segment in the Rochester area. This new segment of the trail winds through Saller Woods, connecting to Eagle Case Park, before joining the

to Case Eagle Park.

The construction of the new segment, which is composed of blacktop, creates a seamless link from one end of the county to the other. The final segment of the trail is on the east side of Highway 36 and proceeds northward to the Waukesha County line (City of Muskego).

White River Trail

Just a short ride from downtown Burlington, this crushed limestone trail begins at Spring Valley Road, just west of Burlington off Highway 36 and goes through Lyons and Springfield.

The route takes you past the “Pedal & Cup” (offering bike rentals, snacks and drinks May through September) in Springfield. The final segment of the ride runs into Burlington’s neighboring city of Elkhorn. Numerous bridges, scenic vistas, quaint towns, farmlands and wetlands offer great views along the way.

Richard Bong State Recreation Area

Richard Bong State Recreation Area offers something for everyone. The vast array of possible activities includes: walking, running, bicycling, swimming, canoeing, fishing, camping, picnicking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, or snowmobiling. There is also an area where visitors can fly hang gliders, ultra-light aircraft, hot air balloons,

and model airplanes and rockets. Areas to train dogs or falcons, ride ATVs, go horseback riding, and hunt in season are also available.

Seno K/RLT Conservancy

Seno K/RLT Conservancy maintains 127 acres of woodlands, prairie, fields, and wetlands, known as Seno Woodland Center in Burlington. The property is open from dawn to dusk with 2.8 miles of walking trails located in Southeast Wisconsin’s rolling Kettle Moraine country. The Woodland Center is the home base for a land trust whose mission includes providing natural resources education opportunities, demonstration of sustainable forestry and land management, and land conservation throughout Kenosha & Racine counties. Dr. Elvira Seno,

who died in 1996, left a legacy that her beloved tree farm would become a place where children and adults could learn about nature and forestry. Seno K/RLT Conservancy is a non-profit organization that runs on the support of donors and volunteers. The restored barn and pavilions on the Seno Woodland Center property can be rented and are perfect for showers, weddings, meetings and more.
