Community Unit School District 100 was formed in 1949 and includes the City of Belvidere and the communities of Caledonia, Garden Prairie, Timber Lane and surrounding communities. Under the policies of the Board of Education, the district operates six elementary schools, two middle schools, one high school and one special education facility, serving as the administrative district for the Boone County Special Education Cooperative. An alternative education program (night school) is operated by the Boone-Winnebago Regional Office of Education for students grades 7-12. The District 100 alternative school provides programming for District 100 and District 200 students.
