COMMUNITY MUSICIANS Lakes Area Community Band The Lakes Area Community Band, founded more than 26 years ago, is a year-round opportunity for the local musicians to get together once a week and blow their horns!

“We are always looking for musicians to join us,” says Director of Music, Steve Porch.

This full-size concert band plays for local events and also performs numerous concert programs throughout the year. Each concert brings new musical entertainment from guest musicians, vocalists, and ensembles for your enjoyment.

The band rehearses Monday evenings at 7 p.m. in Lakes High School’s Band Room. Come and join the fun!

Lakes Region Historical Society Museum The Museum is located inside Antioch’s Second School, located at 817 Main Street. This building was in continuous use as a grade school from 1892 to 1971.

It also included the first

two years of high school education.

The renovation and museum construction were completed with contributions and volunteer labor. The Museum was dedicated and officially opened on July 18, 1987. They welcome donations of artifacts from Antioch and the Chain O’Lakes Region to add to their

collection.

Private Tours are available for clubs and small groups by appointment. Admission is free, donations are gratefully accepted.

Open every Saturday March through December from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The museum is located on Route 83 in downtown Antioch.

Wizards Magic returns June 20 Wizards, Witches and Muggles alike will gather in Downtown Antioch, Illinois, for their 4th annual Wizards Weekend Day on Saturday, June 20, 2020. (That’s a lot of 20s – is there a magical reason for that?) Join us to celebrate all things of a magical nature, bring your owl (just kidding), your wand (or smartwand), and dress as the character you most closely relate to. Be ready for Wizard fun all day long!

Begin your Magical Day by picking up a Marauders Map at the Ministry of Magic Information Booth which will be located on Main Street in the small park next to JJ Blinkers. You’ll also find magical crafters located nearby. Your map, complete with schedules and wizard shops, etc., can be found at the Wizards Ministry of Magic Booth.

Antioch turns into a Magical Wizard Village with new contests, games, and magical moments. Be part of this magic.

Antioch will transform itself with the swish of a wand (and the help of magical volunteers) to bring a day of magical fun to all creatures-magical or muggle alike.

Wizards and Muggles of all ages will enjoy many magical moments this weekend!

For the past year, planning for Wizards Weekend Day has been underway, creating magical moments for all ages.

21+ to participate. All registrants receive a magical keepsake along with their Wizards discount wristband. Watch for professors, deatheaters and magical creatures as you enjoy the Wizard Pub Crawl in Downtown Antioch. Must be 21+ to participate. A limited number of tickets are available.

Scavenger Hunt Search A new Magical Scavenger Hunt will also take place on Saturday, June 20, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Maps will be available at the Ministry of Magic Information Booth located in the small park next to JJ Blinkers on Main Street. Chain O’Lakes

The 7,200 acre Fox Chain O’Lakes are the largest, single, inland, water-oriented, recreational asset in Northeastern Illinois.

Located about 40 miles northwest of Chicago on Illinois Routes 173 and 12, near the towns of Antioch and Fox Lake.

Easy access to the major cities of Chicago and Milwaukee has added to the importance of the Chain. In addition to its hotels, motels and resorts with cottages in the immediate marina area, there are also many marinas, restaurants, pubs, bait and tackle stores and recreational lakefronts.

According to a survey taken by the U.S. Coast Guard, weekend usage on the Chain hits about 60,000 people on average and on holidays that figure rises to 100,000 people.

The future of the Chain is being monitored by the Illinois Department of Conservation. They have recently expanded both the walleye and muskellunge populations throughout the Chain.

The Fox Chain provides the best place to go fishing in Northern Illinois, with more than 40 species of fish in sizes and numbers desirable and sought-after by anglers.

Since the Chain O’Lakes is classified as a public navigable waterway and is managed under the authority of the Department of Transportation, Division of Waterways, The Fox Waterway Agency, Department of Conservation and Division of Fisheries, all state boating, hunting and fishing regulations are applicable and

enforced.

Make your trip a fun one by understanding the sport of fishing and the types of bait and tackle to use, when, where and how. As the old saying goes, “Ten percent of the fishermen catch ninety percent of the fish.”

Safety should be a number one concern when on the Chain (or any other body of water). Make sure all your equipment is in working order. Do not overload your boat or run it at high speeds in unfamiliar areas.

Antioch invites you to enjoy our evergrowing Dickens Holiday Village in two ways for 2020. Outdoors on the sidewalks of Downtown Antioch and in our new

Kringle Indoor Showroom. Dickens Scenes will be available to view in both locations for 2020! No worries about weather with the new indoor showroom.

Dickens is a Volunteer Community Public Art Program, which began in 2014 with the help of Father Dickens (Charlie) as we handcrafted Dickens Characters made by community volunteers. Each year our community volunteers create new Characters to add to Dickens Village.

Dickens Holiday Village is hosted by the Antioch Chamber with the Grand Sponsorship of Raymond Chevrolet-Kia! In 2020 we will recreate many displays of Dickens Characters in different scenes throughout Antioch’s Downtown sidewalks and within Kringle’s Christmas Indoor Showroom. No worries about weather and plenty of parking is available.

Holiday Magic in Antioch Fall and Winter in Antioch are magical times. Antioch ushers in the seasons in November with Antioch’s growing Public Art Program – Dickens’ Holiday Village.

Experience the ambiance of the Dickens Era as you take a Dickens Tour or stroll about and learn more about life in that time long ago. In 2020 you will enjoy our outdoor Dickens Scenes on Main Street and Lake Street as well as a small indoor “Dickens Park” inside the Kringle Christmas Showroom (located at 510 Orchard Street in downtown Antioch).

Dickens goes on display on Thanksgiving and may be enjoyed daily through New Year’s Day. Tours are available for large groups or you can pick up a Walking Brochure at our Dickens Welcome Center at Hannahs on Lake Street for a self-guided Tour.

Kringle’s Christmas Village Indoor Showroom Antioch is proud to host Kringle’s Christmas Village in our new Indoor Showroom (510 Orchard St.) in Downtown Antioch open daily Thanksgiving Day through New Year’s Day 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. in 2020. You’ll find dozens of these miniature scenes. They might sound small, but most are 6-feet big!

We welcome Santa and the Holiday Season to town at the old-fashioned Christmas Parade sponsored by the Village of Antioch. The parade takes place on Friday, Nov. 27 on Main Street between Park Avenue and Depot Street traveling North.

Immediately following the Christmas Parade, you’ll enjoy the Tree Lighting Ceremony in front of Village Hall. Here you’ll enjoy old-fashioned caroling provided by the Antioch Community High School Chorus.

The Antioch Fire Department hands out free cookies and hot chocolate.

Community Officials welcome everyone and then the countdown to the lighting of the official community tree happens.

Santa also has a mailbox right here in Antioch! He loves to receive letters from all the wonderful children of the Community. Make sure to include your return address so Santa can send his reply.

Drop your letters in the mailbox which is located outside of Santa’s Frozen Village or you can send your letter to: Santa Claus, c/o Antioch Parks Department, 806 Holbek Drive, Antioch, IL 60002.

Santa’s Frozen Village opens on Dec. 3rd for visits with children. Santa gets busier each year, so Santa will be available two ways: Free visits on Thursday and Friday nights from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Bring your camera to capture your memories or ask our Helpers to take a keepsake photo with our camera for a $5 donation; Plus on Saturday and Sunday afternoons in December, Santa welcomes his Frozen Friends to Santa’s FROZEN Village for visits with the children.

Santa’s Frozen Village features some of Santa’s Frozen Friends on the weekends from Noon to 4 p.m. On weekends, Santa’s Frozen Village includes Santa’s Frozen Friends, plus presents for the kids! There is a $5 per person of all ages donation at the door (ages 1 to 99) on weekends. All the children receive presents; the adults receive years of lasting memories when seeing their little ones enjoying their visits with Santa and his Frozen Friends.
