3D Printing, Green Screen filming, Robotics, Engineering and Design. The future is coming and Mother Teresa Primary School is getting their students ready for it! Since the opening of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) rooms, the skills level of the students has grown immensely. Students have been exploring the skills for 3D printing and making objects based on the learning of the Australian Curriculum in English, Mathematics and Science. The recently updated robotics equipment is enjoyed by all students who are learning the programming requirements to design and operate their robots. Students are coding their own games and then sharing these with each other during the dedicated STEM lessons. The interest has grown so much in these vibrant rooms that they are now open for the students in the break ties for them to come and enjoy their projects or work on new ones in their own time.

In response to this growth, the current Master Plan includes upgrades to sports facilities, a music excellence space, a covered court and stage facility, and overall beautification of the campus.

The College also introduced trained therapy dogs to the community in 2022. “May and Barney have been wonderful additions to Hills College life,” said Hills College Principal, Mr Kevin Lynch. These furry staff members will be joined later in 2023 by two more therapy dogs, with additional staff undergoing the rigorous therapy dog handlers’ course.

The College also has a growing Volleyball Excellence program, with purpose-built beach volleyball court facilities scheduled to be built in 2023. “There are a number of Secondary school students intent on becoming future Volleyball champions, and with the Olympics in Brisbane in 2032, Hills College hopes to facilitate a nationally renowned Volleyball Academy at the College”, Mr Lynch said.

The College is extremely proud to announce Angela Gaviglio has joined our staff. Angela is a certified volleyball assistant coach previously with the Australian VolleyRoos Women’s Team and the Juniors of Queensland, and we are privileged to have her guiding our rising volleyball stars.

Mr Lynch also praised students, staff and parents at Hills for exemplifying the College motto, which is ‘Live with compassion, Act with integrity, Work with diligence, and Strive for success’.
