City app now available for Logan residents and visitors

Logan residents and visitors now have an easier and more convenient way to report maintenance issues and get information on facilities and events, with the new City of Logan mobile app.

The City of Logan app, available for iOS and Android users, is free to download from app stores or via Council’s website.

Mayor Luke Smith said people can use the new app to help keep their neighbourhood and the City of Logan beautiful, as well as explore the facilities and events that the city has to offer.

“The app allows residents to specify the things they are interested in so they can receive updated information about exciting local events that the whole family can enjoy,” Mayor Smith said.

“It’s also packed with information to help people find parks, sports centres, pools, libraries and other community facilities throughout our city.”

The City of Logan app also features convenient customer request options, allowing people to report issues such as graffiti, potholes, abandoned vehicles and illegally dumped rubbish.

“Reporting a non-urgent maintenance issue via the app is so easy,” Mayor Smith said.

“You just need to take a photo, enter the location and send the request for Council to address it.”

Aside from reporting maintenance issues, people can use the app to set reminders for bin collection, pet registration and rates payments.

The app also provides access to the Disaster Dashboard, as well as Loganjobs. com.au which connects local employers and people looking for work opportunities close to home.

The app is the first of its kind for the City of Logan, and Council wants users’ feedback.

“Another great thing about the City of Logan app is that the way it’s been designed makes it easy for us to add new services if necessary,” Mayor Smith said.

“We want the community’s feedback so that we can continue to improve the app and make sure it evolves the way the community wants it to.”

Join Logan’s innovation conversation The City of Logan will be an innovation powerhouse.

That is the vision laid out by the city’s Mayor Luke Smith, who today announced the development of Logan City Council’s first City Futures Strategy.

Mayor Smith called on the community to participate in an upcoming series of events and engagement activities designed to encourage the co-creation of innovative and forward-thinking ideas.

“Building on our Unpacking Innovation event, with such enthusiasm right across the community, Logan City Council is committed to placing innovation front and centre,” Mayor Smith said.

“Priority number one is the development of the City Futures Strategy that will set the direction for the city’s transformation agenda.

“If we are to succeed in the future, we need to invest in ideas, create connections and cultivate new industries and job opportunities.

“Digital possibility is here now, and as technology provides us with new ways to deliver services, it’s important we innovate for the people of Logan.

“We have a vision for the City of Logan to become an innovative and dynamic city of the future.

“Now is the time to work with our community, businesses and stakeholders to develop a strategy that sets out the actions for how we will realise that vision and deliver that future.”

Consultation is now open online at www.logan.qld.gov.au/innovation.

All members of the community, local businesses and innovators are encouraged to have their say, and share their great ideas.

Logan City Council will continue its innovation conversation with the community during a series of ‘Futures Roundtables’ in September that will explore innovation barriers and opportunities.

Kimberley Park State School Principal, James Forrest, said he was looking forward to contributing ideas that could help Logan map out its innovation opportunities.

The community is invited to contribute ideas to Council’s draft City Futures Strategy until 1 October 2017.

RedFest gets bigger and gets better RedFest, one of Australia’s oldest community festivals, is set to light up the Norm Price Park – Redland Showgrounds next week, starting with some great Celtic ‘craic’ with Irish music, dancing and fireworks on the evening of Friday 8 September.

Over the following days, RedFest will host an amazing array of more than 300 talented Australian and international artists, including headline acts ARIA award winning Justice Crew and Queensland’s own blues and roots guitar virtuoso Lecia Louise on the Saturday night.

Redland City Council Acting Mayor Wendy Boglary said it would be a wonderful opportunity for the community to once again come together and welcome visitors, this time celebrating the 59th edition of the Redlands’ most iconic event.

RedFest, like the community which hosts it, is a vibrant, colourful and growing success and there will be plenty to see and do for everyone, including the famous Lantern Parade, strawberry eating competition and the hugely popular Redlands Flyball; drag racing for dogs.

There will also be the Berry Fun Club for the kids, Sideshow Alley, roaming performers and a host of other attractions, food options and community group displays.

This includes art, dance, music and ceremony by Quandamooka Festival performers, including their distinct Kunjiel (Corroboree) as they celebrate and showcases the country and culture of the Quandamooka people, traditional owners of Moreton Bay. RedFest will again finish on a high, with 2017 Golden Guitar winner Troy CassarDaley on the Sunday afternoon helping deliver the biggest and best RedFest ever.

The new addition to the Beenleigh Showgrounds, the Annette and Lionel Mundt Exhibition Hall, welcomed its first official visitors on Monday afternoon, 21/08/2017 when the Beenleigh Show Society Management Committee invited all Show Society members and stewards to be the first to inspect the new and exciting facility. Local Logan City Councillor, Mrs Jenny Breene also inspected the new facility The hall was named to honour Annette and Lionel Mundt. Annette has been the long serving and dedicated Society Secretary and CEO for over 40 years and, acknowledged by all present, to be the back bone and life blood of the Society.

Lionel, her husband, has put countless hours supporting Annette and the Society with unpaid work over the same period.

The Show Society is very proud of this addition to the Showgrounds complex and sees it as a major boost to the Beenleigh and Logan City areas. They look forward to unveiling the Exhibition Hall at the 2017 Beenleigh Show on 16th September and making it available for community use, trade displays and conventions etc. in the coming years.

Festival 2018 Cast Call Talent scouts from the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games are encouraging artists and performers on the Gold Coast, Brisbane, Cairns and Townsville to get involved in Festival 2018 celebrations as part of the Games.

Commonwealth Games Minister Kate Jones said there was a range of paid and volunteer opportunities for creative artists to be part of the 12-day festival funded by the Palaszczuk Government. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s a great opportunity to be part of the Games and one of the greatest success stories in Queensland. â&#x20AC;&#x153;I expect many people will jump at the chance to work under the direction of some of Australiaâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s leading artists and producers. â&#x20AC;&#x153;The festival will showcase all that is great about Queensland and reďŹ&#x201A;ect our lifestyle, culture and creativity. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s all about encouraging local artists, emerging artists and performers to get involved and embrace the Games,â&#x20AC;? Opportunities currently available include: 80 volunteer roles for dancers to work with a leading dance theatre company 10 paid positions for comedic physical performers with De Base Productions paid professional attachment programs for emerging creative or technical arts workers a 5-day music residency program for 20 Queensland Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians with Bleach* Festival (applications close 9 October).
