2016 Council elections – are your details correct?

Redland City will go to the polls on Saturday 19 March along with councils across Queensland to elect a new Council and Mayor to serve the city for a further four years.

Residents have until 5pm this Friday to ensure their details are up to date and lodged with the Electoral Commission of Queensland.

Before the big day arrives Redland City Council is asking residents and potential candidates to be aware of the following key dates and information: Enrol to vote or change your details: Voters must ensure they are registered with the Electoral Commission of Queensland and their details are correct before 5pm Friday 12 February, more information Check your Division: As part of regular boundary reviews the Electoral Commission of Queensland made changes to divisional boundaries in Redland City last year, so all residents are encouraged to check which Division they are registered in.

Nominate as a candidate in the election: The deadline for candidates to lodge with the Electoral Commission of Queensland is noon Tuesday 16 February, more information.

Pre-polling: In person pre-polling commences 9am Monday 7 March at Redland Performing Arts Centre and 14 March at Redland Bay Community Hall (Weinam St, Redland Bay) and Capalaba Place (14 Noeleen Street, Capalaba). Pre-polling closes at all locations at 6pm Friday 18 March.

Postal voting: Pre-poll postal vote applications commence Saturday 6 February and close 7pm Wednesday 16 March.

Cut-off for return of postal ballot material: All postal votes must be received by 6pm, Tuesday 29th March.

Seasonal weather prompts the need to weed Seasonal weather conditions of stormy and sunny days provide the ideal environment for the growth and spread of pest plants and weeds.

Scenic Rim Regional Council conducts weed management on counciladministered lands, however, weed control on private property is the responsibility of landholders. â&#x20AC;&#x153;Landholders are reminded that they must take all reasonable steps to keep their lands free of declared pest plants and weeds,â&#x20AC;? a Council spokesperson said. â&#x20AC;&#x153;A declared pest plant or weed is one considered serious enough to warrant its control under government legislation. Many invasive weeds can also be toxic and, in some circumstances, fatal to livestock and domestic pets.â&#x20AC;?

Plants and weeds which are classified as â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;declared pestsâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; include annual ragweed, groundsel, mother of millions, Singapore daisy, water hyacinth, yellow oleander and fireweed.

‘Little Ships’ cooks up big game fishing weekend ...Continued from page 1 “It’s shaping up to be an exciting weekend,” said LSC Commodore Roger McDowall, “and if the weather gods are smiling on us, it should be a great experience for all our visitors, afloat and ashore, on both Saturday and Sunday.”

Freddie and his on-air sidekick, extreme cyclist Rob Penn, are cooking their way around Australia, filming a spin-off series to their hugely successful “Lord of the Fries” program, which saw them travelling the British Isles in a bright green fish’n’chip van, frying-up local produce at scenic locations.

“We’re aiming to get Freddie and the boys out with the fleet as soon as they get across to Straddie,” LSC’s Game Fish Captain Ian Bladin said. “He’s keen to get amongst it and hopefully tag a catch and get some great footage on the water before coming back to the Club and donning his apron.”

Having exchanged his cricket bat for batter, Freddie is keen to try his hand at a local Queensland mackerel or two as part of the tournament’s traditional Saturday evening BBQ at Little Ship Club.

“Nothing’s guaranteed, of course,” the Commodore said. “Everyone’s hoping the weather’s kind and the fish are biting, but the Game Fish team always says it’s less about the ones that got away and more about the ones who keep coming back every year!”

The LSC Garmin Game Fish Classic and Interclub Shield event kicks-off at Dunwich this Friday 19th and concludes with the trophy breakfast and prize awards on Sunday 21st. Visitors, families, LSC Members and their guests are all welcome. For more information, check the Little Ship Club website

Eats and Beats returns for 2016 The Kingston Butter Factory will host the return of popular food truck and live music festival Eats and Beats next Friday night.

The roaming event was a big hit in 2015, attracting close to 100,000 visitors as it popped up at locations across the City of Logan.

City of Logan Mayor Pam Parker said people had embraced the free monthly event, turning it into a Friday night ritual for family fun and entertainment.

“We were certainly surprised at the number of people that turned out for the first event last March,” Cr Parker said.

“Since then, Council has taken Eats and Beats to Browns Plains, Jimboomba, Logan Central, the Hyperdome and Beenleigh and every time thousands of people from those communities and beyond have come along for a great night out.

“The success of Eats and Beats shows us that the appetite for this style of event hasn’t diminished in the City of Logan and we’re happy to say the menu in 2016 will keep you coming back for more.

“We will continue to offer a revolving cast of some of South-East Queensland’s best food trucks along with a changing line-up of local musicians and entertainers.

Eats and Beats runs from 5pm to 9pm and will welcome back regular food truck favorites including Pizzantica, Greek Street, Tender Calamari, Donut Boyz and many more.
