New choices for young people with disabilities in West Norfolk Young people with disabilities in West Norfolk will be able to make the most of a new range of services thanks to a charity partnership between NANSA and West Norfolk Deaf Association (WNDA). NANSA will be delivering the group-based weekend and holiday services out of WNDA’S Deaf Centre in the heart of King’s Lynn.

The partnership means the service can cater for young people aged 11-17 with a range of disabilities, including mild to moderate learning disabilities.

NANSA “Explore” is a service which supports young people with disabilities and their families through the challenging transition from childhood to adult life.

Individuals accessing the service can opt for one of three elements: ‘Be Active’, ‘Be Independent’ or ‘Be Creative’, meaning they can maximise the time they spend on activities geared towards their main areas of personal interest. On top of this, there are plans in place for a variety of leisure activities for the whole group to take part in. The Deaf Centre is well-equipped, safe and welcoming, and a very accessible venue for people with disabilities, so an ideal base for sessions.

“Explore” aims to promote independence, boost social, work and decision-making skills while building confidence and encouraging self-advocacy. Young people will be inspired to play self-advocac an active part in their community and to help and understand others within their peer group through the opportunities provided.

The service is accessed by referral only, onl either via NANSA on 01603 627662 or Norfolk Children's Services Access & Services Team on 01603 692451. The first session will take place on 1st August 2017. “Explore” will then run on the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, plus Tuesdays and Thursdays during school holidays.

Inspiring young people needs inspiring workers.

NANSA is recruiting for two new positions. The Children & Young Peoples Services Team Leader will be responsible for the development, planning, organisation and running of these group-based specialist services. As the role involves working with young people with physical/learning disabilities or complex additional support needs, it requires a combination of outstanding frontline delivery skills, strong organisational ability, the ability to provide strong leadership to the Children & Young People’s Services Team in West Norfolk and the ability to create and deliver an outstanding programme of activities.

The Session Worker provides support to young people accessing the services. They ensure that the young people can fully participate in a programme of activities through encouragement and direct assistance as needed, and supporting them to develop key skills which will enable them to confidently undertake the key transitions through to adult life. Children & Young Peoples Services Team Leader & Session Worker NANSA is a fast growing charity providing services for people with disabilities of all ages in Norfolk. NANSA is looking to recruit high calibre staff to deliver an exciting new service for young people with disabilities aged 11-17 in West Norfolk.

T he Team Leader is responsible for developing, planning and running the service and requires outstanding delivery skills, strong leadership and organisational ability and the ability to deliver an exceptional programme of activities.

Salary: £20,366 pa (pro-rata) 21 hours pw. Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays (8.30am - 4.00pm) The Session Worker supports the Team Leader in the successful delivery of activity sessions by providing direct assistance to young people, enabling them to fully participate and ensuring high quality care and support.

Salary: £16,271 pa (pro-rata) 46 sessions pa (8.30am - 4.00pm). Two Saturdays per month plus Tuesdays and Thursdays during school holidays. 24hrs pa for training/development activities.
