As you assist the team in reviewing processes and practices within the Emergency Department and the wider general hospital setting you will promote a culture of research and evidence-based practice to enhance person-centred care.

Acting as a change agent, you will promote a culture of continuous quality improvement through the use of audit, patient/client feedback and reeection on practice. Due to the Hospitals size and location it is very unique in its setup.

Staff are responsible for all areas of secondary care within the hospital; recovery, ICU, ED and wards etc. You will also be required to undertake emergency triage, both in the hospital and on location with the ambulance.

Developing hospital and pre-hospital policies and protocols will be a key task, along with teaching nursing skills to all staff. You must ensure that appropriate systems are developed and operational and that risk management arrangements are in place, maintaining effective record management. With effective admission and discharge planning and management of duty rotas, annual leave and study leave, you will lead and participate in orientation and induction programmes, ensure supervision and mentorship is embedded and contribute to budget management.

A Registered Nurse on Part 1 of the live NMC Register (or equivalent), you must hold a Nursing Diploma or Degree and substantial recent post-registration experience within an Acute General Hospital setting. You should also have experience in ICU, AMU/AAU, or A&E with up-to-date ALS or willing to undertake ALS training.

Familiar with changing trends in health and social care, you should be conversant with current professional issues in relation to nursing and be able to innuence and manage change, including the promotion of evidence based practice.

National Safety Feature OMNICELL LAUNCHES NEW REPORT TO PROMOTE BEST PRACTICE STANDARDS OF CARE FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF MEDICATION This month, Omnicell UK & Ireland is launching a new report ‘SAFE: Safeguard Against Frontline Errors’. The report is part of a wider campaign to raise awareness and promote best practice standards of care for the management of medication across the NHS, in particular A&E departments.

As well as helping to drive much-needed efficiencies, the SAFE report has analysed the key role automation plays in patient safety around medication management and compliance. Recent gures show that in the 12-months leading up to September 2016, more than 190,000 medication errors involving the management of medication were reported in England to NHS National Reporting and Learning System (NRLS). These errors include; giving the wrong medicine, the wrong dose of the right medicine – or giving medicine to the wrong patient. The majority, nearly 150,000 were reported in UK hospitals.

Yet, technology exists via innovative digital dispensing and management systems which can dramatically reduce, if not eradicate, all these errors.

The report, authored by a leading independent pharmaceutical expert, found that within an A&E setting, ward-based pharmacy automated medicines cabinets result in a more efficient and reliable system for patients and staff. NHS hospitals which have installed these systems found that they:

consequences. It identiied a series of key consequences as a result of poor medicines management in this area including; lost & missing pharmacy cupboard keys, time consuming administration with the Controlled Drugs Register, poor stock control and lack of medic medication audit trail.
