When will I get my jab? The NHS in Sussex is working extremely hard to get the COVID-19 vaccine to everyone who is eligible as quickly as possible. We have been making very good progress in the short period of time since the vaccination became available. However, we all need to recognise this is the largest vaccination programme ever undertaken by the NHS and it will take time to get to everyone.

When will I get my jab? The order in which people will be offered the vaccine is based on advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI). During January, the NHS will continue to vaccinate people in the first two priority groups. This includes: - Residents and staff in care homes for older adults - All those aged 80 years and over - Health and social care workers

After this, vaccination will continue to roll out to other priority groups in order of age and risk.

The NHS will let you know when it’s your turn to have the vaccine. Please don’t call your GP practice to ask about the programme or when you can have an appointment. You will be contacted as soon as there is an appointment available.

Where will I get my jab? There are a number of ways in which the vaccination is being rolled out to our communities: GP-led vaccination services these services involve groups of GP practices working together to provide the vaccination to their collective patients at one location. This means that you may not receive the vaccination at your local GP; you may be invited to a different location nearby. These services are currently vaccinating people aged over 80. Hospital hubs larger hospitals across the country have been offering the vaccine to people over 80 attending for a planned appointment. Now that more local vaccination services are up and running, hospital hubs are focused on vaccinating health and care staff. Roving service the vaccine is being taken into care homes and into people’s own homes if they cannot attend

a vaccination site. This is being stepped up over the coming weeks as more supplies of the vaccines become available. Large vaccination centres each county will have one large vaccination centre which will be able to give the vaccine to large numbers of people as more supplies become available. The Brighton Centre is expected to be established as the vaccination centre for Sussex from the end of January.

COVID-19 vaccination. Please remember the vaccine is only available on the NHS for free to people in priority groups. Anyone offering a paid-for vaccine is committing a crime. Big Rise In Fostering Enquiries,

Could you Change a Life?

T

he Covid-19 pandemic has led more and more people to find out about becoming a foster carer with West Sussex County Council. New enquiries are up 18% since the start of the first lockdown compared with the same period last year. Between March 16 and the end of November, we there were 283 calls or online enquiries to the Council’s fostering service. In total, 17 new fostering households have been approved during the pandemic and are now successfully fostering a child or children with West Sussex County Council. A further 24 assessments are currently underway as a result of enquiries made during Covid. While enquiries have gone up, sadly the number of children who have come into care has risen by more than 100, taking the total to just over 900 in West Sussex. Clare Spencer, Service Lead for Fostering at West Sussex County Council, said: “It is really positive that more people are finding out about fostering, however the reality is that

the pandemic has seen a big rise in the number of children coming into our care that we would normally see - so the need for people to foster in West Sussex has never been higher. The ongoing effects of the pandemic continue to cause extra pressures on families.”

real difference to a child’s life. Mark and Scott began fostering twins just before the first lockdown began. Scott said: “We’re really loving it so far and although it’s a total lifestyle change for us both, it has been brilliant.” Mark added: “We foster with West Sussex County Council because we know we’re part of a big network of other foster carers and there’s professional help if you ever need it.”

“The rise in fostering enquiries is likely to be for various reasons – the global pandemic has shown great examples of people helping those in their community, people are reassessing their situations and seeking something more rewarding, especially those who have been considering fostering for some time. Some are looking for alternative careers, through choice or necessity, and realising fostering can be a great option where you can stay at home, it can fit around family life and work and make a

Covid-19 has been challenging for carers and children alike, and the council continues to run virtual support groups for its carer families. West Sussex County Council’s fostering recruitment team remain busy and virtual assessments have continued throughout, meaning new carers can be approved within six months. Fostering is a big decision and people don’t have to have made it before speaking to the team, who can advise if it could be right for you and your family.

You won't have to pay any interest charges on this loan for the first five years and you own 100% of your own home from the start. For property seekers dreaming of a smooth transition from old to new, ne Barratt Homes’ Part Exchange scheme means the developer purchases the customer’s current property in part exchange for a new home. The scheme cuts out estate agents and their fees, any chains and provides the customer with a guaranteed buyer for their existing property. A key factor of the Part Exchange scheme is that homebuyers can take comfort in remaining in their existing property until their new one is ready to move into. The Spires currently has a collection of three and four homes available with prices starting from £340,995.
