It’s a Milestone Year for Charlotte’s 24 Hour Booty Ride
One of Charlotte’s most beloved traditions reached a milestone this year. This summer marked the 24th year for 24 Hours of Booty, the annual bike ride around Myers Park’s famed cycling loop that raises money to help people fighting cancer. The 24 Foundation’s mission is simple. It was founded to inspire communities to take action and make an immediate, positive impact on the lives of those diagnosed with cancer.
Since the first ride to this year, the organization’s signature ride has raised over $31 million with more than 29,000 participants riding to support cancer navigation and survivorship programs.
The organization, founded in 2002, helps to fund organizations and programs that offer services designed to untangle the maze of appointments, tests, and treatments after a cancer diagnosis, and increase the quality of life for survivors. Today, 24 Foundation serves as a celebration of survivorship, the power of peer-to-peer fundraising, and the enduring spirit that participants, sponsors and volunteers demonstrate every single day.

The 23rd Annual UNCF Maya Angelou Women Who Lead Luncheon
The fashion and style with a purpose event is a signature fundraising initiative for UNCF each year and is named in honor of Dr. Maya Angelou. It aims to celebrate and honor extraordinary women who have made significant impacts locally, statewide, and nationally. hether you’re from the South or North you may have only enjoyed the more traditional holiday dressings (or stuffings if you’re from the North) with your holiday turkey so it may be time to try something really different for a change. We love sharing new ideas with our print readers, digital viewers and social media followers and during this fall and holiday season, we encourage you to bring something new to the dining room table to share with your friends and family. The recipe here is from our Creative Director, Melissa Latin’s collection of recipes found on her website at charlottefashionplate.com. Give it a try and enjoy!

Oyster Dressing
Ingredients
1 teaspoon Old Bay
1 pint shucked oysters
10 to 12 slices country or cornbread
2 cups chicken broth
1/2 cup oyster liquor
4 tablespoons butter
1 1/2 stalks celery, finely chopped
1/2 white onion, finely chopped
1 tablespoon Old Bay
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
Directions
1. Start by toasting the bread. Break toast into pieces in a bowl. As the bread is toasting, heat up the butter, celery and onions in a pan. Allow the vegetables to soften, not brown, about 5 minutes. Add the chicken broth, oyster liquor and Old Bay to the pan. Simmer for about 5 more minutes.
2. Break apart the oysters and add to the pan. Season with salt/pepper. Add in the fresh chopped parsley. Slowly mix in the toasted bread pieces; you may not need to use all of it. Check the consistency after several handfuls. You do not want the mixture to be too dry or too wet.
3. Spray a 10-inch cast-iron pan with nonstick spray. Add in the dressing mixture and bake at 350 F for about 15 minutes, covered. Uncover and place under broiler for another 1-2 minutes, just enough to brown the top.
