The Crown Jewels (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated Celebrated Mardi Gras with a Purpose
The Crown Jewels (NC) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated celebrated its 19th Annual Mardi Gras Gala on Saturday, February 14, 2026 at the Le Meridien Hotel in Uptown Charlotte. The 700 guests who attended enjoyed food, music, and a silent auction. Members also delighted the crowd as they paraded into the ballroom with umbrellas and fans while second line dancing. The organization raises funds each year for college scholarships and its community, youth, health, arts, and international programs. Hugh and Natalie Allen served as Mardi Gras King and Queen and Hugh’s sisters Debbie Allen and Phylicia Rashad were celebrity guests by video.

The Heart of Greater Charlotte Heart Ball Celebrated Collective

Valentine’s evening 2026 was a very special time for the community to come together and attend this year’s Greater Charlotte Heart Ball. Each year, the longest running charity event in Charlotte celebrates all hearts and the pursuit of a healthier, brighter future for everyone. It was an inspiring celebration to unite supporters with a shared purpose of generosity for giving critical funds to provide hope and make a lifesaving impact. It is also an occasion to recognize and honor individuals making a difference in heart health like friend of the magazine Dr. Yele Aluko. More than $4 million was raised for research, community initiatives, and education to help prevent heart disease and strokes. Every moment of the vibrant evening in the Crown Ballroom was filled with music, dinner, dancing, fun and a live auction to move the organization closer to a future with healthier, longer lives. The event helps to take steps towards the mission for driving change, funding science and improving health outcomes for everyone.

Leave the air travel hassles behind and take a short four-hour drive from Charlotte to Wild Dunes, a resort that feels like going home. We love the beautiful collection of beach homes and condos at Wild Dunes but our favorite place to reside is at the Sweetgrass, a Hyatt property with all the amenities of staying in a luxury collection hotel but it has the quiet, relaxed feeling of being at home. Upon arrival, the complex has both valet and self-parking and the lobby is welcoming with excellent service. The vibe is professional but has a very comfortable and approachable atmosphere.
The Sweetgrass Inn opened five years ago and is a modern oceanfront sanctuary that sits on four acres of the most lively beach area on the resort. It features more than 150 suites, some with three bedrooms to accommodate larger families. There are sparkling pools, al fresco dining, small shops and event rooms.
