East First Street Dog Park Opens by Rick Winterson It has been a while in coming, but it drew quite a crowd when it happened. The East First Street Dog Park officially opened its gates on Thursday morning, October 27th. About half of those in attendance were furry, four-footed, and canine in nature. The rest of us in attendance wore clothes.

In many respects, this is an unusual park. Their number is growing, but dog parks around Boston still are not that common. The leash law in Boston applies to all dogs not on private property; dog parks allow them to run free inside those parks’ fence lines. Furthermore, this dog park is situated on MBTA property on East First Street, where the City continued on page 10

MBTA Bus Service Review by Rick Winterson Wednesday evening, October 26, the MBTA officials and consultants held a progress meeting in the Tynan School’s cafeteria. meeting. The agenda was set by MBTA staff, Mass DOT staff, and Nelsom / Nygaard, a consultancy. Some specific problems and issues were cited as part of the meeting’s background. The ridership on the #7 bus line has increased by 65% - by almost twothirds – while bus trips increased by only 26% - about one-quarter.
