by Rick Winterson

s you can see from the photos, the 2017 Street Festival will be a jampacked celebration of South Boston’s merchants, artists, agencies, commercial enterprises, and lots more. It will take place on Saturday, September 16, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on East Broadway, between I and L Streets. Please (especially) note that there’ll be NON-STOP entertainment on TWO separate street stages, and there’s no admission fee to the Festival – it’s a free for all, in more ways than one. If you are new to our neighborhood, then welcome to a South Boston tradition. The 18th Annual Festival is the result of a partnership between the South Boston Chamber of Commerce and the South Boston Neighborhood Development Corporation. Some

100+ participants from all parts of Southie will draw up to 10,000 visitors; the Festival is one of South Boston’s most anticipated events. Continuous entertainment includes C&W by the Royal Furs, along with performances by Peggy Wood’s Irish step dancers, Miss Linda’s dancers, and Ultimate Self Defense. New at this year’s Festival will be “Guilty Pleasure”, New England’s premier dance band, The Thomas Park cover band will be back as well, led by Joey Tobias and lead singer Paul Eastman, both from South Boston. And your kids will have a ball with face painting, balloon twisters, cartoon artists, a photo booth, “Simon Says”, and the New England Aquarium tide pool. Be sure they look for (and have their pictures taken with) the Caribbean Pirates. But don’t forget that the 2017 Street Festival is all about South Boston’s enterprises: Continued on Page 5
