William Gross Sworn In as 42nd Police Commissioner

P

romptly at mid-day last Monday, August 6, the Swearing In Ceremony for William G. Gross as the City of Boston’s 42nd Police Commissioner took place. Martin J. Walsh, Mayor of the City of Boston, administered the formal Oath to Gross, and then presented him with the Commissioner’s Badge of Office.

The locale for the Swearing In was the Morning Star Baptist Church at 1257 Blue Hill Avenue. The Ceremony was called to order by the Master of Ceremonies, Superintendent (Ret.) Randall J. Halstead. A large audience, which completely filled the Church’s sanctuary, took their seats. It was a diverse audience. The Red Sox CEO John Henry was on hand, as were many Boston athletes. WBZ radiocaster Carl Stevens was among those covering the Swearing In. The Colors were solemnly posted by the Boston Police Honor Guard; the escort was the Boston Police Gaelic Pipes & Drums Column. Police Officers Stephen McNulty and Kim Tavares rendered the National Anthem in harmony. A very meaningful blessing was called down by Bishop John M. Borders, the Senior Pastor of Morning Star Baptist Church. He thanked everyone who played a part in appointing William Gross as BPD Continued on page 4
