The Job Picture in South Boston by Rick Winterson

n many ways, the business news – both locally and nationally – over the last two months (May/ June) has been unusual. For the most part, unusually good. The current U.S. economic expansion just reached the tenyear mark this month, which equals the length of the last major period of expansion from 1990 until 2000. Students also learned how bill becomes a law and sat at the desks of legislators to see how representatives debate and vote on bills and budget amendments. The kindergarteners, teachers and parents also stood at the same podium where President John F. Kennedy once stood and addressed the Massachusetts Legislature. Following their visit, the House of Representatives held an informal session.
