ongoing plan for developing the 15-acre Edison Power Plant site at 776 Summer Street by a design/build pa r tnership called Redgate/Hilco. T he E d i s on site /7 76 Summer project has become a controversia l project, a s evidenced by the 300+ concerned South Boston residents, who both showed up and actively participated. A significant source of the controversy is based upon the added traffic and parking burdens that would result from all the residences contained in the first two proposals. Building heights, residentia l densit y, crowded public transport, and the presence of (or lack of ) sufficient green community spaces have also drawn adverse comments till now. n Thursday, August 1st, 3 exceptional, local college-bound teens were on hand for a luncheon held at Boston Police Headquarters to be included in a group identified as the first recipients of scholarships generously provided by the Salvatore and Maria Pizzi Family Foundation. It was truly an amazing event with inspirational remarks from Police
Commissioner William Gross, Superintendent Nora Baston, and son of South Boston - Sergeant Gino Provenzano. Recipients included: Rodolfo Arias (UMass/ Boston), Joseph Baker (UMass/ Lowell), and Kaleigh Flaherty (Curry College). The BCYF Condon Community Center is fortunate to be surrounded by these leaders of tomorrow. Congratulations!
