VOLUME XIX- ISSUE 74

Two South Boston Businesses Begin Hiring Efforts by Rick Winterson Two enterprises new to the South Boston neighborhood have begun their initial plans for hiring qualified people.

T

he se c ompa n ie s are located at the eastern and western ends of the South Boston Seaport District. One of them is Hilco Redevelopment Partners (HRP). Their project is referred to as “776 Summer Street”, which marks its location under construction and extends from the Reserved Channel to Summer/L Street. The other is the Eli Lilly and Co. building. At its address on 15 Necco Street, it looks out on the Fort Point Channel from the northern edge of the Procter & Gamble/Gillette parking lot. The HRP project is still under construction; the Lilly

building is ready to open. Accurate estimates of how many positions will be filled aren’t yet available, but various media statements from them both imply this will be hundreds and perhaps could be as many as a thousand (1,000) over the next several months. And the development aspects of the HRP and Lilly projects are extremely interesting. HR P, headqua rtered at 101 Seaport Boulevard, is completely replacing what was originally the Edison Power Plant (“the Edison”, back in 1902). When finished, their mixed-use project will amount to 1.7 million (1,700,000) square feet on 15 acres. Right now, the project is in what HRP calls the “Deconstruction” phase, meaning that they plan to retain and renew key classic structures. Continued on Page 2
